The duo played a clip of Stern saying that Letterman's "people" called his agent to see if it was okay to book Opie and Anthony, and that he could have said no but didn't. O&A in turn challenged Stern to "do it!"
On his SIRIUS Satellite Radio show, Howard Stern told his audience that Letterman "asked me how I felt" about the booking, and that the booking came after "a lot of pressure from a certain person" at CBS. Stern claimed that Letterman's staff "weren't into it. They were feeling a lot of pressure."
"Howard says a lot of things that can't be confirmed. We are telling Howard, do it ... go ahead, get us off of Letterman, you lying sack... he thinks he has power over CBS and David Letterman," Anthony Cumia said.
Opie added "his listeners need to know that he's full of shit... We’re begging him to do it because we know it’s just a bunch of crap.”

Here's my take on it. O&A are the biggest talk personalities on XM. Howard Stern is the biggest talk personality on SIRIUS. Anything involving the two is of interest to the industry in my opinion.

Of course its Howard's "fault" that anyone mentions him. Howard left a huge impression on everyone in Radio. They either love him or hate him, but they (Radio people)will always be in his shadow for whatever reason.
I was the one who posted it, but it originally had nothing to do with Stern - it only related to CBS execs pushing Letterman to have O&A on the show, and a slight hesitation on the part of Letterman's staff. The Stern thing came up only after he himself mentioned it.
Obviously they're not as much of a household name as Stern is, but if local sports radio asshat Chris 'Mad Dog' Russo can go on and plug his stupid book, I think O&A would do just fine.

So there was some sort of hesitation.
Stern mentioned this whole thing when a caller called in to say the Rover was out and O&A were in Chicago. Howard then mentioned the whole thing about Letterman's people calling Howard's agent. Howard did say that he is no one to be telling any one epecially Letterman what to do in his own show...and that was pretty much it. He also said that Free Fm finally getting a show that works.
I think this whole thing has more to do with their friendship than anything else. Remember, Letterman allowed stern on to Bash Les Moonves. He even let Stern plug Sirius for a whole show.

No one would make a merger announcement this way, Letterman doesn't have enough viewers, and O&A aren't synonomous with XM enough to be the mouthpiece. When someone says Sirius they tend to think Stern. I don't think the same is true for O&A, for no other reason than XM markets poorly, and broadly.
It'd be a nice suitfest with the upper echelon from CBS/XM.

Of course Anthony is angry at Stern; the so-called champion of free speech had a gag order put on them for years. Why wouldn't he be mad? All I have to say, when you watch howards movie, and hear all about him talk about other DJ's prior to say 1995, He constantly put others down, even from his begining days, he would wonder why other DJ's were afraid to confront him and talk about him or to him. We use to go back and forth from listening to Howard and O&A. Early on in the year we listened to about 70% O&A and 30 % Howard in the mornings. Now, since Howard has been hilarious as hell on SIRIUS, we listen to about 95% Howard vs. 5% O&A. Sorry guys, but you guys arent bringing it anymore.......plus HOWARD's show is way better than it has been, as good as the 90s.

I have a theory that O/A really are desperate right now. Look at the facts: they're 2 guys in their mid to late 40's who have had some success on radio currently and in the past, but never hit that real, major, f-u type mega-money payday (unlike Stern, which would explain some of their jelousy and obsession with him). Now that the twilight of their career's just around the corner, (because let's face it, they're not getting any younger and the kids get bored quickly today) they're desperate for said mega-payday so they're doing everything they can to get noticed, pathetic as it may seem.
They need to get those ratings up quick on testicle radio because all those stations that dumped DLR for them clearly desperate and pissed off and have very itchy trigger fingers. Additionally, XM (and possibly Sirius) might not last very long as independent entities if they don't start reporting better numbers soon.
Stern did them a favor by abandoning shit radio for Sirius because they weren't ever going to beat him straight up. Howard not being on testical radio is their big chance to finally make some real money.

I was listening to O&A when they played Howard and boy did I get nostalgic. I grew up listening to Howard and later became a fan of O&A. But hearing them play a clip of Howard, made me feel really odd. Howard has his show on still and millions of people are listening to him, he's still available out there. I went out today (friday) and got my sirius starmate and boombox and heard the Wrap Up show. Although Howard wasnt live today, it was great to hear Bababooey and even Ralph! They played Howards clips from the week and i gotta say im so happy I spent $180 on the boombox, radio and the subscription......i really had no idea what i was missing til i got the chance to listen to Howard again. It's obvious i have some major catching up to do with Howard, cuz there are soooo many new people and regulars (callers, staff and roles).
