Opie and Anthony's contract with Sirius XM Radio Inc. expires on October 1st and it doesn't seem like the two parties are close to coming to an agreement. On Wednesday, Opie wrote on his Twitter that the current offer on the table from the satcaster was "a joke and an insult."
Opie's tweet was hardly cryptic:
"I want to continue, their current offer is a joke and an insult, waiting to see if they wake up," Opie wrote."if not I have plans," he added.
The tweet was followed up by Anthony Cumia a few hours later:
"I'd rather not talk about ongoing contract negotiations in an entirely public forum for the world to see," Anthony wrote.
This helps fans understand a few things: first, that an agreement has not yet been made yet between Opie & Anthony and Sirius XM. And secondly, that Sirius XM might be willing to wait until the last minute before coming to an agreement. We're only a few weeks away before O&A's contract expires. This might be key for Howard Stern fans who are hoping on a decision being announced before November.
The recent firing of Steve C might not necessarily leave a positive taste in everyone's mouth either.

This update comes a little late. The tweets from Opie and Anthony were sent out yesterday. Today there was even more "mystery" added to this situation when actor/comedian Jay Mohr tweeted the following:

That doesn't sound too good. Unfortunately after the merger of XM and Sirius the company has no loyalty to any of it's employees/talent. They let a lot of good people go from XM during the merger so it's not out of the realm of possibility that they'd let O&A go even though they have been a major part of XM's programming since 2004.

The only reason I have XM is for their show, if the contract is not renewed, I will be gone, just like I was when they suspended them for 30 days. Sirius is no doubt, waiting on Hoo Hoo's response. Even if you don't like them (Stern Fans) you have to respect that there are people who subscribe just for them. What I find crazy is this company throws money at people like Oprah, Martha Stewart, and 800 sports channels (and I like sports) but fails to go after talent that would add to the subscriber base. The Rush Limbaugh's, Jim Rome's, Howard Stern's, and Opie and Anthony's have loyal followings of males age 18-34 which is the target for SXM.

It just doesn't make sense for XM/Sirus to let them go. Howard is a numbers issue. Considering XM still has more subscribers then Sirius i think that makes the argument that Howard isn't as powerful as we thought. But to let all the 18-35 demo talent just walk away doesn't make sense.

Opie and Anthony have not had the hype that Howard has had, but their show is far superior. Funny bits that are REAL and not set up. The funniest comedians, who are allowed to sit in the entire show, not interviewed for the 30th time and then kicked out to get to Robin's news. One of the funniest comedians on the planet, on the show every day in Jim Norton. Another one of the funniest people, Anthony Cumia, on the show every day and they don't think they are better than everyone, like Howard does.

I agree with Marcus - I have a couple of radios activated, but if they go, then so does all of my subs but one (just for the car - non-commercial/ uncensored music does beat out any of the crap on terrestrial). I hope they stay on the air.

What kills me is how they pump up this idiot Jason Ellis. They actually think this guy is going to replace Stern and O&A ? He is advertised on 202 constantly and invited (maybe not by choice) to sit in on The O&A Show but do you ever hear any ads for Stern or O&A on Ellis's channel ? No one on this board has ANY idea how much revenue Opie and Anthony bring into Sirus XM or any other show for that matter. All of the arguments being made are based on nothing, just speculation. If you are a Howard fan most likely you are going to shit on Opie & Anthony, and vice versa. This company is no stranger to letting go of talented people to save a buck. Just like any Union contract that is being negotiated, this will go into the 11th hour. Of course Sirius is going to low-ball with their initial offer. I am sure that they are doing the same thing with Howard's contract.
The unfortunate truth is that Sirius XM could let go of both The Opie & Anthony Show and The Howard Stern show and still survive. They'd lose a lot of subscribers, but in the end they'd bounce back.

This most likely means o&a signed a new deal already. They pulled the same gag in '08 - telling listeners their contract would expire only to reveal on the last day of the contract that a new deal was signed weeks earlier.
XM Would survive without any single channel, but they will lose many subscribers....it comes down to simple math: They make more with O&A than without...by far.
I know many people who are gone, or will reconsider the value of XM without the Virus.
I'm already considering canceling XM and just getting O&A on audible, it's much cheaper and XM stinks now that Sirius has ruined all the music stations. So I don't really care one way or the other.
As far as a podcast, Howard has been talking about leaving Sirius and doing a podcast. I don't see how this is a bad thing. No more being told what they can & can't do on satellite.
But if someone goes I believe it will be Howard. Just looking at his age and cost it makes sense to lose him.

For me, Sirius offers absolutely nothing outside of Stern, Bubba, and O&A. The Music Choice channels on my cable-lineup are better programmed than Sirius' music channels. Plus, the sound quality sucks. Go ahead and drop all three in the same year, I'll be dropping my subscription -- two receivers and Internet.
When Sirius let Eastside Dave wander off, I was pissed. I called to cancel my sub, to find that it would cost more to cancel that just let it run out. So I started listening to terrestrial radio. That lasted for about three days. Terrestrial radio suuuuuuuuuuuuuucks! So, if O&A and Lil Jimmy go, I will be sad, but I will hang on to satellite radio until it is rendered obsolete by the next technology.
I suspect that the suits have decided to deliver a slow, lingering death to XM 202. The Boys keep getting reigned in, more and more. Promises made, but not honored. Earl is gone and not replaced. Dave is gone and not replaced. Steve is gone. Will he be replaced? And then there is Fezzie, but that is Rons problem. (Sorry. My apostrophe key is broken.)

I find myself continuing to pay for XM just for O&A - when Stern was free for a month, I tried to listen and be unbiased and it was just awful... a bunch of cronies kissing his ass. A "post show wrap up" Really??? I love my satrad and just got a sky dock to boot, but if they're gone, I'll prob just stick to my ipod and pandora radio - and try to get some O&A podcasts, they're the best, they're down to earth and they have amazing talent and guests...

Hey Carlos Perez... shut the hell up. Have you ever heard the show when Opie is out sick? No offense to Jimmy & Anthony (both of whom I love), but it's a mess. Opie is the captain of the ship, the leader of the show. It may not be as glamorous a role as the "funny guy", but it's just as if not more important.
By the way, I will cancel XM if O&A go. My radio never leaves channel 202 because I have zero interest in their other content. I don't even listen to Ron & Fez. My subscription is all about Opie & Anthony.
