UPDATE: The Sirius XM iPhone App is now available!

Sources close to Sirius XM Radio Inc. say that the company has been in development of an official iPhone App, and the app is currently in beta, Orbitcast has learned.
Back in June, XM pre-announced that an iPhone App was in development using the XM Radio Mobile service.
But all indications show that this new app is a separate effort (and the XM effort could have stalled amid the merger).
According to the Orbitcast source, this new iPhone App will be available for free and wouldn't stream any special "mobile" service - rather it will stream the regular Sirius or XM internet content to iPhone and iTouch users.
Though a scheduled release date wasn't specified, Orbitcast also learned that the app is currently in Beta, according to these sources.
Additionally, the iPhone streaming will not cost any extra to subscribers aside from the price increases already set to take effect this month. Any Sirius or XM users paying for internet service will have access to the iPhone app, for free.

oh this great news! finally! no more car kit
Blackberry Storm app coming soon please.
So this is why the 3rd party app was rejected from the App store.
Beautiful, can't wait. We should get something for our $2.99 extra...
I guess this is why StarLightXM got rejected. Sounds like SiriusXM screwed over NiceMac. If so, that's quite a shitty move.
Although it was shitty that Sirius/Xm pulled the wool over the guys at Nicemac, this is terrific for the fans and consumers. This app could be here this week and I am so excited.I wonder what will be the benefit of having the usirius app now.I guess the guys have to go back to the drawing board to make their app better.
Any word on an official BlackBerry app that doesn't require an extra monthly fee. RIM is launching their app store this month...
what would make you say it could be here this week? Its only in beta testing and the approval process at APPLE is 2-4 weeks right? So its seems to me that once again SIRI-XM is running behind the curve
Are we sure that Sirius has not purchased NiceMac's version?? That is also currently in beta. Seeing that Sirius was involved in discussions, I would think they would mentin to these guys that a product was already in development.
Are we sure that Sirius XM isn't buying Iphone App from Nicemac? Could this could be what is holding it all up?
Yeah, it's called Slacker, and it's better.
Slacker sucks....not impressed at all with it.
sounds great until Sirius XM decides to start using this as a revenue stream and begins charging for this application or figures out someway of making money off consumers.
BigMan,
It's what we little people like to call a subscription. They are talking about the application being free, not the service.
if this app is anything like the current XM app, no thanks. the SQ really sucks.
Slacker is WAY better with regard to content and SQ. Sorry XM.
I had Slacker, its nothing like SXM. Wont recommend slacker to anyone.
Hopefully it's as good if not better then the starplayer and IT BETTER show the lyrics of each song just like starplayr does.
The plot thickens...... Maybe some kind of co-op app with Nice Mac...they did not seem too upset over the denial of their app. Ok, now I'll be totally OPTIMISTIC maybe Apple forced the delay not to offer a paid app until the free app was available.... so maybe both are coming out at same time ..as to not screw the iPhone fans....... You got to figure everyone jumps on the LONG awaited paid app for $10-$15 and a free app comes down the pike some time in future sure would piss off alot of people, remember the dreaded iPhone 1st gen rebate fiasco

swweeettt
I second the Blackberry app. Paying another $8 a month for 20 channels and with no sports or stern is stupid. They should at least allow Sirius XM subscribers have the app for free.
so is this under apple review or in house beta testing? can someone clarify that
i9 app please.
I say this week because look at the email that was sent out Friday, something big is coming,3 ways to listen. Lets just see but it seems like this may be released sometime this week
Sweet. Now I can get rid of my head unit and just plug in my iPhone. I also don't have to worry about the PC going to sleep at home when using Orb. No complaints here, unless the app sucks. Then there are complaints.
Kind of sucks for the guys that was releasing their own app though. They would have made a ton of cash off of it.
Its that the big news? Get rid of the one artist channels including Shady 45 and bring back the extended playlist that XM used to have, thats big news.
and why would you need this with Pandora already available?
because last time I checked howard wasn't on pandora, was he?
Because Pandora is NOT Sirius XM, and is stupid.
Sirius XM is MUCH better, in my honest opinion - and I don't have to set up playlists dedicated to a "sound".
I have the feel and vibe of radio, with interactive personalities and someone else spinning the playlists.
I have live performances, interviews, and sessions exclusive to Sirius XM.
I'm hearing stuff that I haven't heard anywhere else. How am I supposed to know what station to set up on Pandora with an emerging artist I've never heard of, since I never entered the artist name to create a station dedicated to that artist?
Exactly.
Once again proving satellite radio is for newbs and suckers. With internet radio and the iPhone there is ZERO need for this app or to pay for a rapidly declining satellite radio service. With internet radio there is more variety and better quality. All one needs is a little internet smarts to see that satellite radio is for newbs and suckers.

I think SIRUISXM is realizing that it has to befriend with the internet.
You are the newb!
SiriusXM's value is in it's product and innovation
Think outside of the box
Slacker has been doing this for a while and did it better on the BB by allowing the program to cache content so that when your not in cell coverage you can still get music.
no NFL no Stern... people calling for slacker and pandora in the comments are missing the point... if you didn't know, now you know what peeps are excited about
Doesnt sound like the StarPlayr Devs are too happy with this app. here is what Jason Millard just posted on twitter.
http://twitter.com/jsm174
You had slacker and wouldn't recommend it?
Are you kidding? Obviously you have never had Slacker or a G2. Nobody that goes Slacker, ever goes back to listening to the MUSIC on sat. I still keep sirius for Stern and a few othertalk stations, but every day I think about cancelling and going 100% slacker.
I can't believe In The Know took the time to wright out all those app names. What a tool.
Nobody cares about the Blackberry Storm.
I have tried them all aol radio, Pandora, LastFM, Slacker and NONE of them compare to XM sirius. Now that they merged I have it in both my cars, I had stiletto canceled it in anticipation of Starplayr can't wait for any app that will let me put it on my iphone. In fact I have Shoutcast on my iPhone just to get some of howard 101 This app will be incredible
In the KNOW,
With all of your Internet smarts, please tell me how to get a live stream of Howard on any of the apps you listed.
questions for In the Know:
1. how many of those programs pick up anything that sirixm plays? i don't mean just music. i mean EVERYTHING including talk?
2. if all of those apps collectively equals the stuff played on sirixm, why would anyone want to download all of those, or pay for them if they are paid apps? what is the point of paying for those apps just to get the same stuff found on satellite when one has to only download the satellite app FOR FREE and get all of that content anyway?
slacker and pandora are second tier services and apps to satellite radio because neither of those two offer sports, news, or talk as a part of their selection. keep in mind, some people didn't invest in satellite radio for the music so stop throwing all satradio listeners in the same boat.
i have seen posts here saying that the people telling others to stop complaining about the music playlists being not as deep must have been sirius members previously. it's not true because i have seen sirius listeners complaining about the same thing. so i'm going to say this to everyone complaining about the music selection: if it's that bad, pay a visit to one of the various torrent sites, download what you want, and put it on your mp3 player. all the benefits of satellite radio- commercial free and high quality with the added benefit of being only the stuff you want to listen to.
Sweet - this is the only way to get Margaritaville on my iPhone, so I'm excited!
Last time I checked, Howard was not the reason SatRad was developed. Howard (and O&A for that matter) is nothing but FM shock jock morning zoo crap with some cursing thrown in. Satrad was built around the music, deep playlists, an alternative to what we were hearing on FM. With visionaries like Lee Abrams. Now the music is repetitive (how many freaking times can you play U2 in an hour), shallow, and talked over by inane jocks. I listen to satrad for sports and talk since the sound is better than AM, but for music, I am using Slacker on my iPhone.
And SuperH, I have heard many new artists on Slacker. You can tune it to a genre you like without specifying an artist.
Newbs and suckers are proving the point with every desperate post. Who cares about Howard or any of that other craptastic radio siriusxm is pushing these days, it's all garbage with horrible sound quality. Ranger is 100% right satradio is not Howard, let you guys in on a little secret Howard was 95% better when he was the King of All Media on KROCK. His show SUCKS on satellite radio. Sorry newbs and suckers internet radio and terrestrial radio, FREE radio is where the talent and programming is at. A POS siriusxm app for mobile phones is for one purpose only, more bait for newbs and suckers. Educate yourselves, good radio is also free radio.
siriusxm is pushing crap for newbs and suckers.
To all the people that are ripping this app, why do you care so much? If you don't like the service you have pointed out there are other options, so go listen to them.
People like SiriusXM for more than just music, sure some were pissed about the merger and that channels were dropped/changed but if you don't like it cancel your sub and find something else to listen to. No one is holding a gun to your head saying you have to pay for the service or that you better not try to listen to anything else.
I have a lifetime sub for Sirius and I love it. I like the music they play, thank god backspin is back cause that was a huge F'up but the alternative and classic rock stations cover the music I like. If I want to hear something else I throw on my Ipod.
I have Pandora and Slacker on my Phone as well and I rarely listen to them anymore. Sure they are great but, I mostly listen to Stern and Sports radio. I hardly listen to music that much since most new music blows in my opinion and I have all the music I like on my Ipod.
I can't wait for this app, it will allow me to listen at work since I can't access it through the company network, and I wont lose the signal anymore when going through the tunnel on my commute in.
What is a non-newb sucker like yourself wasting time posting on a satellite radio forum? You're "in the KNOW' You should be off listening to the great free radio on the numerous apps you've listed. Get lost!
That is not quite right, "In the KNOW". The best radio is NOT free. Around here you have to put up with bubble headed bimbo's on the radio, guys that were popular 20 years ago that have somehow kept their jobs, or complete idiots spouting crap off all the time. Then there are the CONSTANT car commercials. EVERY SINGLE commercial break is FULL of car ads!! It is enough to drive a person nuts. When you do finally get to music, its the same crap that has been played so much the damn song is crispy toasty!! Its NUTS! If you want good radio, with music that is actually a variety, you HAVE to go satellite radio. Other than that, you will loose 20 IQ points every minute you listen.
free radio also pushes ryan seacrest and brittney spears, american idol, and every single boy band as being legit and talented musicians on the masses.
free radio is not where it's at and it may not for satrad either. but fordamnsure free radio can push whatever the major music labels and radio corporations want to push on the american lemming populace easier and with fewer filters.
While services like Pandora, Last.FM and Slacker have their place, they simply don't provide the live experience that many people want.
I've used them all, and in my opinion, there is nothing else there that competes with the Sirius channels that are well programmed and have interesting DJs. The "Underground Garage" station immediately comes to mind.
Some Sirius programming might require tweaks, but that's the thing ... it's dynamic.
Yeah, but where is it? It should have been out months ago!!!!
AM/FM Radio is absolute garbage, and everyone truly intrested in this site knows it. The talent is gone from FM radio; it was replaced by safe, wacky radio and PDs that don't have a clue. I gladly pay my subscription to listen to the Virus on XM. And to be honest, that is the only reason I still have my XM. When I want to listen to music I use my iPhone and listen to whatever I want.
BTW, I have and Inno, and to all those on here that mention they are "thinking about buying an Inno..." or something like that, DON'T. I paid so much more thinking that I was going to be walking around with this thing listening to my XM; what a joke. It only works if you are holding it in your hand two feet in front of you like an idiot. The MP3 aspect of it is an absolute pain is the arse to use and sync. And the battery is crap. My suggestion, just buy a cheap docking unit.
And that is why I cannot wait for this iPhone app to debut. I can finally listen to XM on the go!
Oh, and ...my show is better than your show!........yuck
Nobody is listening to SiriusXm. Ask your neighbors.
None of my neighbors listen to it.
None of them.
I notice in the photo that three of the four XM channels shown on the iPhone have been axed. I realize it's not an official photo, but it is rather ironic.
This thing is pointless unless Sirius XM actually decides to put the FULL lineup online. Right now it's pretty much just the music channels. No MLB, no NFL, no NBA, no NHL, no NCAA....just music. It's pretty much equivalent to Slacker with Stern/O and A added. They need those things to make it worth paying a monthly fee for.
Is there anychance there could be an app developed for the G1? Just curious. It could happen, right?
In The KNOW,
Nobody gives a shit about the propaganda that spews from your big mouth like projectile diarrhea. Good radio is free you say? Well, based on the quality and entertainment value of your so called "good radio", it should be free - because it SUCKS!!!
I have been listening to Howard Stern for over 20 years, and I think I have pretty good intuition when it comes to deciding what is and isn't funny. I can assure you of one thing - an NAB worshiping asshole like yourself is not funny - not even a little bit. What you are is fucking obnoxious! The fact of the matter is that The Howard Stern Show has never been funnier, has never been more outrageous, and evokes more laughter from its fans than all the other radio and television programs combined.
The reason so many people want satellite radio to survive and succeed is because they live in constant fear that they might have to someday turn on their AM/FM radio again. Personally speaking, I will never listen to terrestrial radio again, because it makes me physically ill and it costs way too much. That's right, numbnuts - the annoying, vomit inducing commercials cost the listener their sanity and destroy the continuity and flow of whatever lame shit is being programmed in the first place.
I don't like terrestrial radio, but I don't go around telling people not to listen to it. Only the most ignorant, illiterate, condescending jerk off would get on this site and proclaim the utter nonsense that you do. You are a festering cancer that sucks the life out of anybody that reads your tripe. You have no idea what you are talking about, and everything you say sounds like it's been scripted by David Rehr. You can take your free, good radio and shove it up your ass, you pathetic imbecile!
I'm an XM / Best of Sirius subscriber. Love O&A, Stern ...etc. But I'm also a Slacker radio owner. Slacker Music and Comedy blows Sirius XM out of the water (audio quality and content).
As far as Talk Radio there are many web based alternatives that you can sync up to the Slacker G1 or G2, podcasts ...etc.
For now I keep Sirius XM for O&A and Stern, but the Slacker is used way more than my satrad.
Anonymous,
I just asked my neighbor. He has two subs and loves it! My neighbors must be a lot smarter than yours. The UPS truck just pulled in front of the house and Sirius/XM is blaring from the inside. He loves it too. You need to move out of tent city, and upgrade to a trailer park. Then ask your neighbors and see what they say.
I agree 100% Steve O!!!! Stern's show has never been better..... And I think we live near each other My UPS guy has sirius blasting too.
No screenshots? How can it be close to coming out and not one recent screenshot has been leaked?
someone invent a device so I can wear my IPhone all day long and listen to Howie and Bruce, and Spectrum, and so I dont ever have to read posts by zeros like InTheKnow(not) . . .
Louie - you are an astute and sensible Sirius/XM subscriber. You obviously have exquisite taste when it comes to quality programming; the Stern Show is THE FUNNIEST thing on radio, television, the internet, etc. If it wasn't for Stern, I think I would have had a nervous breakdown in the last few years. It's hard to be depressed when you are laughing your ass off!
Thanks for backing me up on this, Bro - there are a lot of NAB "plants" out there trying to convince people that Stern has lost his edge. They can all kiss my Howard Stern loving ASS !!!
MusicFan wrote: "While services like Pandora, Last.FM and Slacker have their place, they simply don't provide the live experience that many people want."
You think SiriusXM music channels are live? The place is a ghostly Voicetrack City.
MusicFan wrote: "I've used them all, and in my opinion, there is nothing else there that competes with the Sirius channels that are well programmed and have interesting DJs."
You and I must be listening to different SiriusXMs. "well programmed" and "interesting DJs" are oxymorons when used in conjunction with "SiriusXM."
Sirius XM= Live news, sports, talk, and plenty-o-music.
Can Slacker or Pandora compare? I think not.
Slacker and Pandora get stale and redundant very quickly. Oh, but I can pay money and not hear ads and be able to skip unlimited songs...just like an... ipod. Hahaha
The full channel lineup for Sirius may not be available online yet, but the content already there is so much more diverse than the other internet radio providers.
Your not fooling anyone here.
BTW: Why are you listening if it sucks so bad?
LMAO!!
Quote from previous post "Sirius XM= Live news, sports, talk, and plenty-o-music. Can Slacker or Pandora compare? I think not. Slacker and Pandora get stale and redundant very quickly."
Can Slacker deliver live news, sports and talk? No, but I get that elsewhere - podcasts or just turning on the boring old FM radio for news and sports. You do have a point, but to say you get "plenty-o-music" from Sirius XM, come on. Slacker DESTROYS Sirius XM on Music and Comedy. "Stale and redundant", this is completely untrue.
I do still have Sirius XM for talk, so I agree with your point on that. But as far as music you are WAY off base.
Really? I have tried internet and slacker and Sirius XM Blows them out of the water...I guess it depends on your music genre....glad you like the talk though because Sirius XM is definately more than just music. Personally for me I like DJ's and hate constant stale music, downloaded music gives me a feeling im always missing out on something and Im working too hard for content.
and for Know it all...do you pay for TV? You must not because you can get news, movies, sitcoms, science and all that free off the airwaves...and the internet.
