One million iPhones sold

One million iPhonesAmazing, Apple just announced that they've sold 1 million iPhones.

It's been almost 6 years since the iPod was launched, and it took Apple two years to reach the one-million-mark. With the iPhone, they've reached that milestone in 74 days.

That's either an amazing figure, or a disgusting one. It depends on who you work for.

Remember that a majority of those iPhones sold were at the $599 pricetag. People said that a $600 phone would never change the mobile audio industry, obviously they were wrong. Note to Sirius, XM: remember this moment when you're shaking your head in disbelief the next time you look to cut costs in the design department. For consumer electronics, design is everything.

It's an amazing number, but what does it all mean Basil? (spoken like Austin Powers)

I mean what does it all mean to the world of SAT RAD?

Great. This is a new twist: Take a poll of registered voters and let THEM decide whether DOJ should enforce the antitrust law or not.

This gets more pathetic by the week.

uhhhhhh

"Note to Sirius, XM: remember this moment when you're shaking your head in disbelief the next time you look to cut costs in the design department. For consumer electronics, design is everything."

LOL. Sorry, that post was destined for the other thread.

I'd like to see a "content is everything" person come in here and spin this....

Apple is not a media company. It does not own content. Its a distributor of content. When it comes to the media business Ryan knows zilch. Sirius is a media company.

Sorry Ryan. You are a good kid.

@MUSCLE13: For one, that personal attack is unwarranted and has little to do with this article. I write about 1 million iPhones being sold, and you go off saying that Apple is not a media company?

But wait... are you saying that Sirius doesn't compete with Apple? Are you saying that Sirius doesn't distribute content like NASCAR, NFL, NBA, NPR, and all the music content?

I'm sorry, but distribution IS the media business. How it's distributed doesn't matter, how it's experienced by the consumer means everything.

"Sorry Ryan. You are a good kid. "

Aww shucks, thanks!!!!!

>> When it comes to the media business Ryan knows zilch.

and you're a pompous dick.

If you dont think Apple is a media company, then you're in denial...

Apple is a tech company. The media business is all about content. I have read the blog for a while now. I think Ryan is very intelligent but my opinion is he knows absolutely nothing about the media business. Just my opinion. He seems like a really cool guy who loves reporting on satellite radio and has a lot of good info. But as far as media I don't think the guy has a clue. Sorry. I think the guy is more intelligent than 99% of bloggers.

It isn't 1988 anymore. "Technology" and "media" are no longer separate industries.

Any media company that thinks of itself as a tech company will inevitably lose to better tech. AOL is a perfect example. Apple is a great tech company that keeps improving its tech. They are not a media company.

AOL had all the promise to make itself the biggest media company ever on the net. They signed no exclusive content and got their heads handed to them. Can you imagine if AOL signed Howard radio and had Monday Night Football games only on AOL instead of TV? The promise they had in the 90s. But they thought of themselves as a tech company when they were really media and thus were doomed to inevitable failure.

What are you smoking?? Apple creates the HARDWARE AND THE PLATFORM! They don't just sell iPods. There's this little thing called iTunes MR MUSCLE. They sell MUSIC, DISTRIBUTE TALK RADIO, and sell VIDEO programming. Apple has to work out distribution agreements just like TV, RADIO, and SDARS has to work out distribution agreements.

Apple = Hardware, Medium, Platform, Distribution Agreements
Sirius = Hardware, Medium, Platform, Distribution Agreements
XM = Hardware, Medium, Platform, Distribution Agreements

If it walks like a duck.......

Apple owns no content. Zero. They create computers, net sites, ipods, phones etc. They are a tech company.

............and they're kicking XiriuM's ass.

MUSCLE can't fathom the fact that XM/SIRI are not just media companies. As banff21 pointed out, they are ALL of those.

Ask yourself this question MUSCLE, if the satellites were to fall out of the sky today, would XM/SIRI exist? Because if they were just a media company, then they surely would.
