Opie and Anthony spread the virus to San Francisco, to CBS Radio's KIFR (106.9 Free FM). The addition of KIRF gives O&A a total of 21 markets - seven of which are in the top 10 markets.
In addition to this, Opie & Anthony have been booked to make their first appearance on The Late Show With David Letterman on August 31st.
UPDATE: According to AllAccess, Opie & Anthony will not be replacing Adam Carolla who will remain in the morning drive timeslot.
UPDATE 2: R&R informs us that O&A will be on KIRF during the 10am - 1pm timeslot.

GREAT NEWS!!!!!....for CBS.
Ryan,
Your article (and the KIFR website) wasn't clear as to whether they'd be pushing aside Carolla in the morning or starting somewhere else. Might they be the "Free FM programming" at 3 PM?
Opie's complained about 3-6 in the past, saying that afternoon drive is fine but that a slot like 4-7 or 5-8 would be better. It seems like O&A are in accomodating moods at the moment.
It'll be interesting to see how they plug themselves on the Letterman show - as in 'where they can be heard'...
Andy, in the 6 o'clock hour today opie said they would be mid mornings in SF I believe.
As for the letterman appearance, I feel like its still too early to be pushing them on national tv like that. I would hold out a few months until more people know the name, but may not have heard the show.
Just please god dont let them mention howard on the show. they are past that
>> Just please god dont let them mention howard on the show. they are past that >>
I bet Letterman brings it up, regardless.
You know I really think Stern might be rueing badmouthing terrestrial radio so much because now he is just stuck to Sirius while O&A get the best of both worlds and still get the chance to plug in XM anytime.
Howard Stern said today on his show that Letterman's people called to tell him that CBS was pushing Letterman to have Opie and Anthony on the show and wanted to know how Stern felt about it. Stern's agent told them Howard had no say who would be on Letterman. Letterman's people evidently then asked if Stern would still do the show if O&A were booked in September to appear on the show. Stern's response was, "of course."
I don't know what to think of that...
1. Goodness knows whether anything that Howard says, ever, is true. I suppose that could go for anyone in radio.
2. If it is, it's funny that either Letterman or one of his "people" was so scared of getting on Stern's bad side that they in effect were clearing the O&A appearance with him ahead of time. (Maybe Dave was just looking for an excuse to tell his bosses no, and losing the Stern booking would have been a good out?) It does show you who the 500-pound gorilla still is, for the time being.
its out of respect.howards had a long history with letterman.
Perhaps it was out of respect... but Howard's response was the perfectly rational and reasonable one, and IMO, the obvious one. Does Howard have a reputation for vindictiveness or is Letterman just paranoid?
Think about it: it would have been huge news if Howard had actually tried to squash the O&A appearance, mostly because it would have been so unusual and out-of-bounds. For Letterman to play favorites for whatever reason is weird and childish.
>> Howard Stern said today on his show that Letterman's people called to tell him that CBS was pushing Letterman to have Opie and Anthony on the show and wanted to know how Stern felt about it. >>
O&A stated on their show that CBS was pushing the appearance, and they weren't too comfortable with the whole thing in general. I think they got the feeling that everything was more than a little 'forced' - maybe it's just a *tad* awkward being on a show when you've played and ridiculed clips of Letterman's monologues for the last year or so?
>> Letterman's people evidently then asked if Stern would still do the show if O&A were booked in September to appear on the show. Stern's response was, "of course." >>
Good for Howard for not being a baby about it, but there *is* the obvious 'gag order' precedent from the WNEW days, so it's not like he's *never* done something like that in the past (as per Andy's post)...
if there not comfortable going on there cant they say no.
I think there's a big difference between the 'gag order' thing and this, though.
So saying that, if O&A start talking about something Howard's young daughter did last week....
>> if there not comfortable going on there cant they say no. >>
Would you? That's an *awfully* big audience to promote yourselves to.
>> So saying that, if O&A start talking about something Howard's young daughter did last week.... >>
They did, actually. The off-broadway play she was in was radio gold for the better part of 2-3 months a while back.
The gag order was a matter of censorship, and if Letterman chose not to have O&A on their show because another guest would throw a hissy fit & not appear, it's virtually the same thing.
what they did stern had every right to throw his weight around.i've notice that when they cant get to the person they are attacking they have to go after the kids.
there is a big difference between this and the gag order, the gag order was the king of all pussy moves.
Let's try to be nice about this. It is after all Manners Monday.
its great timing for them the thursday before labor day weekend , when no one watches t.v. great booking.by the way thats the weekend that STERN does his old bits from K-rock we all know where O&A well be right in front of their sirius radios to know what great radio sounds like and keep on listing after that its ALL NEW STUFF.
right
Hey Sternfan73 it's Manners Monday, so try to be nice to OnA it's only one day.
they can shit on whoopi,
fuckin bitch about an off comment stern made about the weather this morning on wackbag and your telling me to be polite. no way!
Hey Sternfan, better stop following the boys. You may catch a clue how great their show is compared to the garbage on H100.
I remember reading wackbag and some poster said that O&A were better than any of Howard's material, even the old bits. My friend could not be farther from the truth. I've downloaded some old KROCK and WNBC stuff from Howard and it's just sooooo freakin' amazing!! Im glad to see HOWARD is back up to par with those old days and as far as O&A go... nevermind.
You're such a zombie, tussel!! Howard has been doing some f'n great radio again. I admit he sucked balls from Jan.-April, but he's been on fire again and is once again the best radio show on the planet. Sorry, but that Howard doesnt bring the funny and Howard died in the late 90s is no longer valid. If anything.....O&A have sold out and gone back to the medium they criticized. If it wasnt for Howard leaving, they'd still have 30,000 listeners on XM.
yes i know how "great" their show is.and i know how great the management at XM is to them i'm sure they have a channel named after them.oh damn they dont.sometimes i just dont know where my head is.
Fuck you Opie! Fuck you Anthony! Fuck you Jim! Hi Sal.
More of Howards missing listeners getting a chance to hear a better show. All that matters at this point.
sternfan73 sure knows alot about whats going on with O&A's show and wackbag , i find this odd being now that Howard is on sirius i have know idea whats going on over there , just like most of his old listners.
i find it odd that you notice things i say.
damn i go over to FMQB.com yesterday.sonofabitch.i look around the enternet.
if your going to have a problem with me knowing what O&A do ask anthony why he was over at marksfrikin.com yesterday.
Stern fans seem to remember the sequence of the "gag order" backwards. The Gag order went into effect months before Stern's daughter had her "problem" at Jingle Ball. Despite the gag order (or maybe because of it), O&A made vague references to "someone's daughter" being rushed to the hospital after the Jingle Ball concert.
Using the Jingle Ball story to justify the gag order is just revisionist history.
bloody vagina is a bloody hypocrite
Interesting to watch how quickly these comment threads degenerate.
Seems quicker each time, doesn't it?
can't handle it pete? thats too bad. go work for the fcc
Hmm. On O&A comments, Stern fans bash O&A. On Howard comments, O&A fans bash Howard. Funny how quickly a positive news story turns into a sour battlefield.
>> can't handle it pete? thats too bad. go work for the fcc >>
I can handle anything you throw at me. It just gets old tearing you a new one every other day.
internet is spelled with an i.
FaFaFluFly , what a wordsmith you are , " The Daily Show " could sure use your talents .
What a smart ass you are. Women comics can use your talents, hence the name--bloody vagina.
>> So saying that, if O&A start talking about something Howard's young daughter did last week.... >>
They did, actually. The off-broadway play she was in was radio gold for the better part of 2-3 months a while back.
I meant that the gag order was related to them talking about his daughter, and I don't think he would try to "block" them from being on Letterman unless they did the same thing there.
BW- see Bill's post above - the "Jingle Ball" incident was post-gag order.
its funny how O&A cant get attention with out howard stern's name being thrown in. Keep trying to rip off stern o&A, you will never be howard. If he wanted, you guys would have never seen leterman.
