Opie and Anthony on XM Satellite Radio
It's Official: as of today Opie and Anthony are to be syndicated on terrestrial radio as announced on their show today. The buh-buh-buh-boys have in fact replaced Howard Stern on Citadel Communication's Syracuse station 95X WAQX-FM. You might recall the little drama between 95X and Stern - Howard was getting dumped out on mentions of Sirius Satellite Radio and his show was promptly being turned off at 10am. Well, it appears that they got so salty over the Sirius promotions that they have decided to side with XM instead.

The current trial period will air Opie and Anthony "best of" shows, but soon to follow this week will be Live (edited) syndicated content from the XM Premium Station.

Arbitron places Syracuse in market rank #79. 95X WAQX-FM is the 6th place station overall there. A decent sized medium market to serve as the terrestrial debut of syndicated satellite content (at least content of this caliber).

The syndicated shows will obviously have to abide by FCC indecency regulations, and will have commercials of course, but mentions of XM will most likely not be dumped out on. This a smart move on XM's part as they will not only get exposure for 4-hours a day attracting more and more regular listeners to satellite radio, but they also establish a 3rd party revenue stream.

Let the war begin!
