The New York Post featured a very interesting interview with XM's Opie & Anthony in this past Sunday's edition of "Hot Seat." They cover the feud with Howard Stern, the St. Patrick's Cathedral debaucle, and O&A's unprecidented syndication on both satellite radio and terrestrial. Their logic behind why terrestrial radio was still important to Opie & Anthony - even after already being on XM for over 18 months - is oddly simple. Opie's response? "You get to reach a lot more people." While Anthony's answer was that terrestrial radio brings in "people who don't like you" as well as "the dregs of society, drunk off their ass at 6 in the morning."
There's no question that the dual-syndication deal has done great for Opie & Anthony's career, but whether it's shown similar benefits to XM is a question yet to be answered. Either way, it's an interview well worth the read.

i think the dual-syndication will eventually be a good thing for XM . 2 of my friends just bought XM because they started listening to them on are local columbus station and wanted to hear the whole unedited show . i also know 4 more people who are getting it for xmas . this is a good move that will help get XM out of the red .
I remember back in the days when the way to get a bigger audience was to put on a better show. Go figure. I guess Scab Radio is the wave of the future.

O&A got a 1.9 share in NY, which is less than one third of Howard's audience... an absolutely horrible rating and even worse than Imus'.
No one followed them to XM. XM stock was worth 5 times what Sirius was when Stern signed and had 500% more subscribers. Now XM has 38% more subcribers than Sirius. All of this can be documented and is undisputed.
O&A were part of the XFL debacle that had the worst rating in the history of television and cost NBC hundreds of millions of dollars. Keep up the good work and manufacturing a feud instead of creating your own radio show.

Sure the rating is still low compared to Howard's prime peak, but the key factor is the increase and that they continue to increase and improve their ratings.
Oh boy, another stock expert. O&A are not the cause of XM stock decline. Stern is not the main cause of XM's stock decline. And take a look at the decline in Sirius' stock price since Stern started at the beginning of 2006. It's a nice little ski slope, but why? What happened?
So now O&A are responsible for the failure of the XFL? They did a stupid 1/2 hour pre-game show that they even admitted was horrible because they were handcuffed creatively. The XFL failed because the games themselves didn't sell-out and the TV ratings were horrible.

Nobody can ever deny Howard's popularity back in the early to Mid 1980's into the 1990's. But what you brainwashed Stern fans aren't seing, or just choosing not to see is that the fans of Opie and Anthony believe that their show is more relevant. O&A love to tool on the media and news reporters and things, while Stern has the same naked chick lesbian parties in his studio, which is exactly what he's been doing for God alone knows how long. now if you like that, that's fine. I happen to think that that type of radio is boring, cause it's already been done. O&A are innovative while Howard is simply doing what worked 10 to 15 years ago and isn't atempting to do anything to get into the news for anything show wise. **Ahem** I'll make this simple so everyone can follow.
What several of you seem to casually & continuously ignore is that Stern went directly from his vast audience on terrestrial to Sirius satellite.
He had an ENTIRE year to plug his 'big move'. Every single one of his listeners had advance notice and plenty of opportunity to run out & buy their radios, subscribe to the service, and be all 'good to go' when January of 2006 rolled around.
O&A were OFF THE AIR for *2 years*. Virtually NO way to communicate with most of their audience (and did you happen to see any ads from XM?), therefore virtually NO way to give people advance notice of their move to satellite.
Name recognition? Stern's been in the business a LOT longer and has become synonymous with the radio industry. No one can deny that.
What you happen to be witnessing with O&A these days is what Stern did for his own career 15-20 years ago. They're slowly building up that name recognition, and slowly building up an audience that will rival Howard's soon enough.
Another difference is that O&A aren't whoring themselves into other forms of media. Stern had the radio, the Channel 9 show, the books, the E! show, the movie, and now of course the Sirius program & the PPV stuff. Tell me how you're NOT supposed to become a household name when you're into all of that?

The only thing that this article mentions about the new show is they congratulate the staff on the move and their new home.

We have XM and SIRIUS at work and since April 06 we have stopped switching from O&A to Howard and Howard back to O&A. Being a fan of both shows, i have to be perfectly honest, Howard is on top of his game once again. Artie is fucking great and Sal and Rich have trumped the competition. O&A are never really heard anymore. Only time is on some Fridays in the morning when Howard is not broadcasting, but we switch it to Bubba, Ferrall and the ALL OUT SHOW on Shade 45. That says a lot.
Did anyone ever notice that O&A don't bring up Howie in Interviews, The interviewer does. Stern takes the whole month of August off... but can't seem to find the time to go to his producer's dad's funeral. HE ONLY CARES ABOUT HIMSELF AND HIS MONEY. The issue is most of them have probably based their opinion on something another Stern fan has vomited up. These people dont get the show because they refuse to give at a shot. The ratings for O&A are for April and May and are lower than anything Stern had in NY, ever.
If O&A fail, they were stifled creatively. If they are mildly successful, they are the next big things. Great spin... they are in a no lose situation. When O&A are #1 in NY, I will give them credit. If they dominate like Stern did, I will give them props. Bottom line is, I tried listening to them for a month, thought they were boring and derivative, and turned them off.
Yup, I guess them filling up PNC bank art center with just comedians, and show references, is just another failure. Guys, you should just retire now. My ears are still ringing from all the partying that went on, damn 5 fans make a lot of noise.. haa
Filled up PNC with 12,000 people no less, I was there and that place was packed !
Not only that, but they stayed afterwards and took pictures, signed and talked to their fans. Both Opie and Anthony were great down to earth guys that give back to their fans. It was an amazing time, and I just bought 3 tickets for the Tweeter center show in Camden.
Why is the discussion always about O&A vs. Stern? The real question is are O&A funny and a good listen. I've tuned in several times and it just seems like a self-serving bore-fest. Lots of posturing but not unfunny. I'll stick with Jim Kerr and 1010 WINS.
