Opie & Anthony in Reuters

Opie & Anthony were featured in Reuters yesterday, which is a testiment that O&A's exposure on terrestrial radio is driving their awareness levels - and media attention - and as a result the awareness of XM. It's an interesting approach for exposure for XM Satellite Radio, and one that always is under constant debate here in the comments. This directly addressed in the article:

XM called the deal a success as well. "We're getting enormous branding and exposure for XM," said executive vice president of programming Eric Logan.

"The benefit to XM subscribers is that they get the uncensored show. I think we're turning new people on to XM, which is translating into new subscribers," Cumia said.

The thought that giving something away for free, in order to get them to pay for more of it, isn't anything new in this world. Free samples and trial periods are something we've all experienced. A majority of people will opt to stay with the free - that's a given - but the increased exposure you get from giving it away ultimately adds to the bottom line.

It's in creating that desire in people to get more of the service that will truly make a difference.

Yeah, I've heard of another company who used this business model--hell, they invented it. Ever heard of Microsoft? ;)

Classic case was today's show - anyone who listens on XM knows what I mean...

Plus, *more importanly*, the CBS deal allowed for all the WNEW clips (high quality, btw- ;-)) to be played during 'best of's and replays...

Listening right now (11:29am) to a story about Opie's family vacations from the 'NEW show, speaking of which...

And it's all in crystal clear audio.

just further proof that the virus is spreading and nothing can stop it. we have taken over Hoo Hoo's old markets and we will continue to grow across america. this just goes to show that we truely always win in the end. Who would have thought three years ago that the boys would be more popular than Hoo Hoo ever was?

Umm...Ramone, their ratings haven't passed Stern's old terrestrial ratings yet...and you gotta understand that, well, anything is a better alternative to David Lee Roth.

It's good for them, but CBS has a history of screwing people. Hopefully O&A won't be among them.

Ramone, you are completely delusional. Get a life, dude...

How old or goofy do you have to be to think some 43 year old guy is a boy?
Could these O&A fans be any faggier? It give me the creeps just reading some of their posts!

Sticker Boy's a useless retard. It's best to ignore him...

Uh, what is this "we" shit, Dude? The show isn't called Opie and Anthony and Ramone. Even if you listen with your toy microphone in front of you, as you pretend to be the fourth member of the show, you AREN'T. You're a listener. Jesus, you remind me of those women who go the U.S. Open wearing a tennis outfit, as though they could be called down to the court at any moment.

As a Sirius subscriber, I think this Opie and Anthony free-fm deal was a good one. I was traveling across 3 states the other week, and had Stern on for many hours, then one morning out of curiosity I decided to see if I could pick up the Opie show on FM, and it only took a few seconds to find it, near Pittsburgh, PA.

These 2 guys are going to be everywhere now, and I think they are serious competitors to Stern, and to Sirius. And XM gets all these plugs, heard by millions of FM listeners, instead of Sirius. CBS no longer cares if their hosts talk about XM, even though they demonized Howard for promoting Sirius.

We'll see what develops in the coming year, but it's hard to ignore this free fm deal by 0+A.

crankymediaguy, the boys consider us pests to be part of the show. you should listen to the boy's show, I am sure you will catch the virus in no time and understand what i am saying

Yes, you're a part of the show in the same sense that a guy sitting in the bleachers of Yankee Stadium is the third baseman.

By the way, the plural possessive of "boy" is "boys'," not "boy's."

Hoping you catch the Literacy Virus, I remain your humble correspondent,
Cranky Media Guy
