Opie & Anthony "outrage" gets some attention

And so it begins...
- Stacy Parker Aab doesn't think the joke was funny.
- The Post Chronicle believes this jeopardizes the Sirius-XM merger.
- Neal Boortz, of all people, calls for O&A to be fired.
- David Hinckley first to call this an "outrage" and gives the full recap.
- NewsBusters asks if this behavior acceptable "when the targets are Republicans"
- And the New York Post said
something, but I can't access their website for some reasonthat CBS has no intentions of firing O&A and publish a statement from XM:
"We apologize to the public officials for comments that were made on our XM show... We take very seriously the responsibility that comes with our creative freedom and regret any offense that this segment has caused."

Comments
I hope this does jeopardize the merger. As far as C-BS is concerned, they're done without O&A. I hope the speech suppresion police stays out of this one.

Listening to the boys recently it sounds like they not only predicted that this sort of "scandal" would happen eventually but that they would welcome it.
A lot of jocks out there would love this kind of publicity to boost their career. I wonder if O&A are actually trying to blow theirs up; maybe the six-hour days, slow ratings climb, and all the post-Imus BS made the dual career seem not worth it. They certainly are dissatisfied with CBS management and have been promoting XM a lot, even on the CBS side of the show.
I would definitely be thinking that O&A were trying to get fired except that the clip I heard sounds a lot like what they say every day. So maybe this was just innocent.

What time of day did this take place. I can only imagine that because of the outrage it happened while on the CBS time slot.
Be that as it may I can't see the similarity between what Imus said and what someone on Opie and Anthony's show said. But I guess they provided the outlet for what was said like sex for same which they didn't actually do the act.
Isn't what was said on the air exactly the same thing that many Americans say everyday.
And I do seem to remember a TV show did I bit about when Condy was in collage with an afro partying like her future didn't matter. (No way type the name of the great show if you know it, we can not afford to loose a great show like that.)

not for nuttin, but the article posted under this one has 32 comments. Thats more than stern got on many articles posted here.
This means there is Publicity... this means Ratings, This meand more subscribers to XM...
Its a Friggin Pay Service. If I want to pay for Porn I can get that from Echostar or Direct TV or Cable... How in the world is talking about Sex differnt from Watching it?
Ok... I have to go home and make love to my wife!

first off, they're well over 40 at this point. Stop calling them boys. Only slightly less lame than 0.0. SLIGHTLY.
secondly, why would this jeopardize a merger? What exactly does this have to do with the business end of a SatRad merger. Personally, I think this is just another wave in the NAB's smear campaign.

it took stacy parker ab this long to find out that the're not funny.
Posted by: sternfan73 ? | May 11, 2007 9:49 AM
espnjason if they were to be let go by cbs down the road i don't think cbs will by filing for chapter 11.

When a show rails against an unpopular administration with a 29% approval rating, the outrage might be slightly less than it would be with a special interest group. It's Republicans, not blacks or asians. They have thicker skins...oh wait...

Zero. Point. Zero.

Mike Hunt as usual with your 0.0 BS. O&A are still heard by more people than Howard on satellite alone. If your god Howard were as all-powerful as you like to think (as you get ready to jump in your Firebird while wearing all denim after you buy that new Bon Jovi cassette---oh my bad it isn't 1987 anymore) why couldn't he crack the top 10 on talkers. Hey Now...Dick!

There is a clip on the homepage of Foxnews.com from the Hannity and Colmes segment. (Warning: Mancow makes another ass-hat appearance)
They made their statement regretting the comments and if they take their own advice, they will leave it alone from here. I hope it will be forgotten by monday.

holy jesus. I heard that mancow interview. That dude is a fucking cunt. I'm comvinced that radio personalities can't possibly be human.
Also, sternfans: you know how fucking stupid Ramone sounded on here a few months ago? You're starting to be him with all that 0.0 bullshit. Really wasn't that funny the first 40 million times FOR FUCKS SAKE.

Holy Crap. I have Not heard the replay from todays show yet. After all of the free speech talk this past week and before their vacation, and them poking fun at apologies, if they made this apology in any form of sincerety, then i don't know if i would be able to listen to them much more. Or at least when they get on their soapboxes like they have been (which i enjoy, but when they cave in and do the thing that they constantly are making fun of).
By the way Stern fans, we get it, O&A have no listeners. For not having any listeners, you sure do have to make an effort to people on this board that they have no listeners.

If there is one thing that can Stern fans and pests can agree on, it's that Mancow is a enormous douchebag.

opie and anthony fans.
all three of you.
kidding
do you guys feel that they will be
let go for this?
asmuch as i dont like them i dont feel
they will be fired for this
Posted by: sternfan73 ? | May 11, 2007 11:34 AM
I'd certainly hope they wouldn't get fired...Though, it's unusual for them to leave the show 35-40 minutes early as they did today, claiming meetings and phone calls needed to be taken care of. I think it'd be a huge mistake for XM to fire O&A over this, again, since it was a guest, not the hosts, who made the comment...But, in this new society of fear, where rights are taken away constantly, I wouldn't be surprised if they were fired.
I think CBS, however, would have a harder time firing them since the comments were heard only on the XM side of the show...I imagine CBS would have another huge lawsuit on their hands, so it's probably smart for them to say they have no intention of firing them.

Freaking boys pussied out and caved at the first sign of pressure.

MikeHunt -
"How'd your parents die?" ..... "Why Not?!"
Stern ain't that special anymore, I wonder what the howie fans are going to do after Hoo Hoo's contract expires (in 3 years). At least O&A has at least a dozen years left, at least on the XM side.
Posted by: espnjason ? | May 11, 2007 9:00 PM
I'm a Stern fan and hate O&A but I'm supporting their free speech on a PAY FUCKING SERVICE! What the fuck is going on in this country? I believe CBS will fire them because they fired Imus and JV & Elvis unjustly as well. Let CBS Radio be destroyed the same way WNBC died.
And fuck that jealous Manqueer. O&A fans must agree that the Stern bit of skull-fucking his dead daddy was just hillarious.
Posted by: Jorge ? | May 11, 2007 9:54 PM
Political correctness is going to far in this country. It's a good thing Carroll O'Connor is dead or he would have to defend his his tv show All In The Family reruns on tv land and have to apoligize to every ethnic group that was offended on that show.

First of all, did anybody notice how Mancow kept preaching the fact that O&A were extreme liberals? Anybody who listens to the show knows that Anthony and Jimmy are two of the most conservative people on radio. It is obvious that Mancow's jealousy was fueling him there...that and the fact that he's a total douchebag. As far as the O&A apology is concerned, I think it was the right thing to do...and probably forced on them as well. When they were knocking Michael Richards and Imus for apologizing it's because they went on "an apology tour." O&A said right out that if they would have apologized once that it wouldn't have been a big deal, but they apologized hour after hour, day after day. Finally, if O&A get fired (from XM) it will mark the official downfall of our democratic country.
