Opie and Anthony on CBS Radio Opie and Anthony have renewed their contract with CBS Radio to continue to broadcast their morning radio show on both CBS and XM Satellite Radio.

"We are both very excited to be re-signing with CBS Radio," said Opie & Anthony in a statement. "Hosting morning drive on K-Rock in New York City has been a career highlight, and when you add in WBCN/Boston and WKRK/Cleveland it makes it even more special and fulfilling.

"That said ... we look forward to our next firing with great anticipation."

"CBS Radio is excited to be able to continue this unique partnership with Opie and Anthony," said CBS Radio VP of programming Chris Oliviero, "They have accomplished the rare radio feat of not only dominating afternoon drive but now bringing that same level of ratings success to the ultra competitive morning drive slot. We are thrilled to have O & A on our stations."

Terms and the length of the deal were not disclosed.

Well, good job boys. The CBS show has issues with the stupid corporate rules but it's usually pretty entertaining and I like being able to listen on XM and hear what gets dumped on the normal airwaves.

Awesome! Congrats, guys!

"But...but...but...but...I thought they weren't going to be renewed?!?!?!?!? When the hell did this happen? BOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!" - pestspin

O&A always win in the end. The truth hurts, don't it Stern zombies?

Ron & Fez, Noon to 3.

Zero point zero! Zero point zero! Zero point... [curls up in a ball and cries]

Even though I'm a Howard fan, I have to give credit where it's due. The ability to lower expectations to the point that getting re-signed is something for the fans to gloat about is amazing. Getting pats on the back for not losing your job, holy shit. Jim Jones has nothing on these guys.

Ron and Fez Noon to 3

I proudly sup from their Kool-AID, GroundBeefJim!

wow, who saw that coming.

no wonder Anthony had the shitties on Wednesday

Ron and Fez: Noon-3

"Zero point zero! Zero point zero! Zero point... [curls up in a ball and cries]"

Ha ha ha....I wonder what its like to have your whole messageboard existance based on an utter lie perpetrated by your puppet master? Facts suck, huh?

Oh wait.. I thought they were only pulling in a "0.0" right?

Fuckin' Stern zombies. Go back to crying about Artie.

Great! Now Opie and Anthony can be unfunny for even longer!

...Oh, and one more thing...

Ron and Fez: Noon to 3...SUCK

This is supposed to be impressive? Terrestrial is taking anything they can get. Personally, I don;t think it's any great feat. Show me where they break through some barriers and I'll give credit, till then, I'll continue to think they're hacks.

mel fires them as soon as the merger goes through

There was a big thing about this on FMQB a little while ago, it said they were in talks with CBS Radio. Something to remember both camps of this silly back and forth thing, this is all about money, this is a business, people. If CBS and O & A both think it's a good thing, and if the ratings were enough to keep things going, that's fine. if you hate them so much, don't worry about it. Also it's funny how "anonymous Coward" always talks about them being fired as soon as the murger goes through. This is something *you* want to happen, you're confusing your opinion with reality. I don't have much use for howard but do you see me posting here talking about how when the murger goes through they'll fire Howard? Of course not, for 2 reasons. Firstly, I have a mind of my own and I intend to use it, if I don't like him I don't listen. Secondly, like him or not Howard is one of the most popular things on Sirius and much like O & A for XM, it's a big reason a lot of folks subscribed to Sirius. Not all of them or things would be going through the roof, but a small portion of his 12000000 listeners subscribed for him. SHIIIIIIT. O & A will do their thing, Howard will do his.

Open and ass are desperate for any contract since IF this "merge" MONOPOLY goes through o&a are through on satrad. Mel will not keep those no talent asshats on the sat's one second longer than he needs to do so. Terms and the length of the deal have been disclosed o&a are now required to pay cbs for the time they are on the air. o&a and ron and fez are O U T

I told everyone 2 months ago that they were going to re-sign with CBS... I wasn't lying. New York, Boston and Cleveland are their stronghold markets -- and they get good ratings in those Metro's. Renewing in those markets was only a matter of time, not a matter of "if".

And Karmazin will not be firing them, post-merger. The amount of money that XM brings in via the syndication license to CBS makes the show well worth keeping around at XM. It's about the money with Karmazin, not doing everything that Howard tells him to do... because if that were the case, then Imus would have been gone from WFAN long ago -- back when Stern and Karmazin were still with Infinity.

When the hell did this happen?!

Anonymous Coward Said,
>>>Mel will not keep those no talent asshats on the sat's one second longer than he needs to do so.

I'll take this bet. Funny that you had to post as "anonymous coward" to make your claim. Regardless, state your wager... I'll bet you he doesn't fire them.

Anonymous Coward also said,
>>>Terms and the length of the deal have been disclosed o&a are now required to pay cbs for the time they are on the air.

??? Huh ???
No terms have been announced, but typical CBS contracts are for 3 to 5 years. I'm betting it's a standard 3 year deal. The rest of you post is pure BS.

Opie and Anthony renewed at K-Rock
By DAVID HINCKLEY

Only a few months ago, radio trade publications were peppered with reports that Opie and Anthony would be quietly released as the morning team on WXRK (92.3 FM), where they've been doing a unique simulcast with XM Satellite Radio the last two years.

O&A themselves were talking on the air about their frustrations with the job and how they felt some of their bosses were acting pretty cold.

This morning, however, a team best known for being spectacularly fired quietly signed a rehiring deal.

They will continue to host 6-9 a.m. on both K-Rock and XM, then do 9-11 a.m. on XM exclusively. Things get a little more graphic over at XM, where there are no FCC regulations on content.

But even though content has gotten them in trouble in the past, like when they were taken off WNEW-FM in 2002 over the infamous and overblown Sex-in-St.-Pat's incident, the talk this time largely centered on the more mundane matter of ratings numbers.

They were hired by CBS in 2006 to take the morning spot at 92.3 FM, which had briefly renamed WFNY with the idea of making it the FM talk station "Free-FM."

Even though it was CBS that had taken them off WNEW-FM, CBS now desperately needed someone to bail out 92.3 FM from the David Lee Roth disaster.

Roth had been hired in January 2006 to replace Howard Stern, who left for Sirius, and it proved to be one of radio's all-time mismatches.

So O&A, who were already doing mornings on XM, came in and ratings improved. But neither the ratings nor the ad dollars ever approached Stern levels – a bar that is almost impossibly high – and they were eventually dropped in several other cities where they had been syndicated.

It didn't help that the Free-FM experiment didn't take off, for a variety of reasons. John Mainelli, who programmed it for a while, felt the company just didn't give it the support it needed and says it still could have become – and still could now become —a winner.

Mainelli left with a note of regret about O&A, who he said were not helping matters because they were phoning in too many of their shows.

Ratings haven't skyrocketed since then, but Arbitron's new Portable People Meter (PPM) system has been kind to rock stations, and K-Rock has gone up.

Opie and Anthony, says CBS, are No. 1 among men 18 to 49, which is their target demographic and good one to sell advertisers.

There also aren't a lot of other great morning shows poised to move into New York, and when all of that was put together, CBS said it was delighted to renew O&A for an unspecified length of time at an unspecified number of dollars.

"CBS Radio is excited to be able to continue this unique partnership with Opie and Anthony," said Chris Oliviero, vice president of programming. "They have accomplished the rare radio feat of not only dominating afternoon drive but now bringing that same level of ratings success to the ultra-competitive morning drive slot. We are thrilled to have O & A on our stations."

They are also heard on WBCN in Boston and WKRK in Cleveland.

"We are both very excited to be re-signing with CBS Radio," said Opie and Anthony in a statement. "Hosting morning drive on K-Rock has been a career highlight. . . .That said . . . we look forward to our next firing with great anticipation."

I love all "see, they got resigned. You stern guys were wrong", I am being 100% honest when I say that the LOUDEST people I read for 100% XM only was on Wackbag. What about the 97% of the country that get 3 hours of FCC friendly show on XM, I wound be MAD at this if I liked o/a and had XM. Am I missing something, does this help the XM fan? Is 3 hours of the FCC show worth "better" gusts. I read all the time about how the 2 hours on xm are the best.

Sorry homer985 AC was 100% percent correct in his post:

How typical for a loser "o&a pest" to question the truth.....

kiss O&As cleveland ratings goodbye. rover's back.

Now I'm an O&A pest? You don't even know me... that was just a dumbass statement. So what's the wager about what Karmazin will do with them? I don't see any takers here...

Rover? Yeah, he did so well when he was up against Stern there... didn't he? Rover had NO 18-34 competition once Stern left -- now that audience is split between him and O&A. Watch as Rover never gets the kind of ratings he had on K-Rock after Howard left. Classic boneheaded move by a DJ who took the money and ran... the grass is always greener on the other side...

Well I have heard Homer wax about how wonderful O&A are years ago. He wanted XM to have big ads on buses and benches in Cleveland he thought they would bring in soooo many subs.

Why back away from them now, Homer?

As for Mel firing htem at their contract expires I do not think they are paid much and he may keep them. This as I think the only way to pay Stern less is to have him work less (so let O&A fill in) and maybe do a similar syndication deal with Stern an AM/FM when his contract expires.

That is a lie, or an exaggeration at best -- knowsmore, and you know it. I never said how wonderful they were. Making suggestions for ways to promote their show does not say otherwise.

But it doesn't matter what I say, because now that you're here -- your next post is where you twist all of my words around to confuse everyone reading this thread, in order to make yourself look good.

Regardless of what was said "years ago" -- or your claims with your revisionist history of it -- it doesn't make me a "Pest". And if you don't know what a "Pest" is, then I suggest you butt out of the conversation. Because again, you don't know me -- and don't know how ridiculous the suggestion of me being a "pest" really is.

Congrats boys, heres to years of more funny *cheers*

CBS is desperate enough to renew that steaming pile of shit of a show?

I'll just bet these failing hacks took a massive pay cut.

great to know, I love O and A. Hopefully they wil pick up more markets now too. I have been waitig for this news!!

auh come on now homer985.

Your a ignorant o&a pest
Your history here at orbitcast proves your waxing about how wonderful O&A are.

Now your lying about your deep and desperate desires for o&a and their talentless crap filled show. YOU opened your pie hole and posted BS about your wet dream o&a now YOU will be pointed out of the ignorant o&a pest. Come on homer985 own up to your love of those two talentless idiot's o&a who will be out of work and of satrad IF the "merge" MONOPOLY ever gets approved.

As for them doing good in Cleveland they will probably do pretty good or part of the morning time but, there show is from 6-9 andRover is from 6-11 so he will still get some of there listeners too from there sho ending 2 hours earlier.

This proves they're failing Fezzzzzzzzz.....

wow, ladies, getting a bit pissy now aren't we? Put on your tampons!
Let's work this out, and we'll make it simple so the people with IQs of like 80 can work this out.

SatRadMadMan stated the following

I'll just bet these failing hacks took a massive pay cut.
Oh and this is actually something you take time out of your day to sit around speculating about? Wow, the very idea of speculating about the saleries of 2 radio hacks...wow, that really must take a lot of your time up, how about doing something to actually have fun?
I like lots of people but I don't worry about how much money they makey

Ok you like Howard. Listen to him and let O and A be O and A and don't worry about them so much, that is unless you think they pose a threat to Howie?

@Tom C, I also happen to think the XM portion of the show is better, but that's just me. Keep in mind that if you listen via XM during the CBS portion, you get the uncut, uncensored feed so if someone says something rather un-FCC radio-friendly, you'll still hear it as it happens.
Just listen to whoever you like, you know you'll never change anyone's mind as a result of all these posts. The one thing I see mostly on here is discussion of ratings, and how much they get paid. I don't stay up at night worrying about this shit! I listen and enjoy. Maybe you people need to take your heads out of your collective asses and just enjoy the shows for what they are, entertainment. Analyzing every single aspect of the show, or the one you don't like...well, if you enjoy speculating about a show you don't even like, be my guest I wish I had that much time during the day to worry about this shit. But i'm too busy actually enjoying the shows.

I have never understood this childish argument... I mean, what does it matter to Stern fans if O&A are on CBS or XM. Neither situation affects Stern's show in any way.

When it comes to Sat Rad, people either have XM or Sirius... it is not like people have to choose each morning who to listen to (For now).

If Howard was on all of the Sirius channels, it would have no affect on O&A listeners, and anythign O&A does has no impact on Howard. I mean it is not like a Howard fan is going to change to O&A and vice versa.

All of these arguments boil down to a bunch of people trying to feel like they are a special part of shows that they are nothing more than listeners of. Everyone wants to be special I guess...

This deabte IS like winning a gold medal at the special Olympics, but people do it anyway. It is why I rarely read the comments here at Orbitcast anymore.

Ryan does a great job of reporting both XM and Sirius news. Stop being dousche bags.

I imagine a lot of Howard fans will be weighing in today to argue that getting re-signed by CBS is some type of failure for O&A. Today is Friday and they don't have Howard to listen to. He only works four days a week.

Howard has a radio show? Where can I hear it?

As I have heard stated by many, If you don't like what your hearing be it Howard or O&A change the channel or turn it off. You people waste way too much time arguing about who's better than who.Sense of humor is very different in each individual. I think that you would be fine tuning your taste if you listen to all 3 shows as I do.( Howard Stern, Opie and Anthony, and Ron and Fez ) I'm not saying that I possess the greatest sense of humor but at least I'm laughing instead of being a forum Troll.

the only way that the boyz will be fired after the merger is if "hoo-hoo" cries. tell 'em Fred!!!

""CBS Radio is excited to be able to continue this unique partnership with Opie and Anthony," said CBS Radio VP of programming Chris Oliviero, "They have accomplished the rare radio feat of not only dominating afternoon drive but now bringing that same level of ratings success to the ultra competitive morning drive slot. 0.0!!!!!111111111111111

Idiots.

Oh, Ron and Fez Noon - 3

"So O&A, who were already doing mornings on XM, came in and ratings improved. But neither the ratings nor the ad dollars ever approached Stern levels – a bar that is almost impossibly high – and they were eventually dropped in several other cities where they had been syndicated."

that sums it up

didnt they start out with like 15-20 citys?and there down to 3????????????

impressive

Gotta hand it to them they did win in the end.

kinda makes me wonder what kind of pay cuts they had to take in this one?

also

"Opie and Anthony, says CBS, are No. 1 among men 18 to 49, which is their target demographic and good one to sell advertisers."

wish newsday would have actually investigated this one claim...lol

nothing has changed, I am still a cunt.

Yes, you are.

"that sums it up

didnt they start out with like 15-20 citys?and there down to 3????????????

impressive"

They're still in more then 3 cities dummy, this article clearly only highlights some of the more important CBS Radio markets. Not many people care about how well ANY show is doing in towns like Rochester, NY.

I smell quite a bit of jealousy and disappointment coming from the Stern/Bubba crowd.

locked down on no creative freedom radio

as a stern fan,im wicked jealous

smash your XM units...attack!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Cindy Sheehan and Anthony managed to go from 22 stations to 3. Nice job. Philly wouldn’t take them for free. Oooh you’re cringy and brilliant broadcasters. The show is only good when Patrice subs for Bloated Gollum. Hey Gollum, got any new AIDS/Pedo jokes, they are so edgy and fresh.

The PD at WYSP was unavilable for comment.

Since Howard Stern retired, who else are you going to listen to? Sure satellite radio is big, but terrestrial is still where 85% of the population is.

Copy Paste, Cut, Paste, Copy, Paste
Blind CC
Blind CC
Blind CC
Blind CC

They started on 12 stations and have been adding and losing stations since. THey are currently heard in about 15 markets, not 3.

And they're not pulling in the ad dollars howard did? Neither is howard. Sorry, his ad rates at Sirius are a disaster. Guess what else, howard hasn't pulled in huge ad rates on FM in a decade either, why do you think they were so willing too let him go?

Congrats to O&A, failing all the way to a new contract that, gasp, pays them more.

bubba went on a rant about 0.0 and how much pussy fags "pests" are, brought up that abortion trying to break his XM and his epic FAIL at it on youtube

"Sorry, his ad rates at Sirius are a disaster"

genius,hence the format COMMERCIAL FREE

IDIOT

Karmazin WILL be firing them, IF post-merger

Tickets are on sale now!!!

great to know, I love O and A. Hopefully they wil pick up more markets now too. I have been waitig for this news!!

WHY!!!!
This is a web site for Sat Rad fans!!!!
This is what I dont get!!!!!!
It is bad for XM if the talant has to go elsewhere to make a living, Good for o/a not good for XM. This is a fan site for sat rad not o/a OR Howard!!!!!!!
What does 20min breaks an hour sound like on XM

"@Tom C, I also happen to think the XM portion of the show is better, but that's just me. Keep in mind that if you listen via XM during the CBS portion, you get the uncut, uncensored feed so if someone says something rather un-FCC radio-friendly, you'll still hear it as it happens. "

Granted, XM will not cut someones SLIP, but the frist 3 hours is O/A tring to do an FCC and CBS and Citadel friendly show.
PS- I am coming at this from a sat rad fan, I live in a city that never had your guys, only Howard, Bob and Tom, Johnboy and Billy, and misc urban. Any wonder why I followed Howard. I would give another 'Howard" type show a chance on a newly formed SiriusXm.
pps-Bubba sucks

"What does 20min breaks an hour sound like on XM"

It sounds like 2-3 30-60 second commercial breaks and then they're back on live. Which is almost exactly like it sounds like when they're on the XM side. If they do need to run a long break on the FM side they play a classic bit or a bit that corresponds with what they're talking about and then run a commercial or two. Honestly it's not a big deal.

The crisis was thus an accident waiting to happen. If it had not been triggered by the mispricing of securitized subprime mortgages
