Orbitcast Podcast 001 - Interview with XM's Eric Logan
This week's Orbitcast Podcast - and debut podcast - features a special interview with Eric Logan, Executive Vice President of Programming of XM Satellite Radio.
A week ago Los Angeles lost their only Country Music station, KZLA, which suddenly changed formats to a "Modern Pop" format. KZLA also was the presenting sponsor for the annual Country Bash country music festival, which XM has since taken over as the presenting sponsor.
Now KZLA didn't have a small audience either - about 600,000 weekly listeners - and Los Angeles accounts for approximately 3% of all Country Music CD sales.
So what gives? Why the sudden change from a format that there is obviously a large demand for? And what is XM doing to help satisfy the needs of these disenfrancised listeneres? Listen in.

Thanks all. I really appreciate it. I absolutely hate hearing my own voice and I definitely have a newfound respect for people who work in radio - talking to yourself in a room isn't as easy as I thought.
Just the fact that Eric Logan took the time out his busy schedule to do this was incredible. It shows that XM is one of the more progressive companies out there -- and I'd really like to show the same about Sirius. (please?)
Anyway, look for more features and better stuff soon. I'd like to involve the community as well and include audio comments (I'm big into online-community if you can't tell). The goal is to make this a weekly thing... maybe even more... especially since we can download these to our Nexus/Helix/Inno and S50 (and Stilettos soon).
On a side note... the "Orbitcast Podcast" is an awful name, but I can't come up with anything better. Anyone game for a contest?

Good job Ryan. How about an Orbitpod?
Anyway if you want to interview anybody from Sirius, I guess just email rschnall@siriusradio.com saying you're a news man and want to interview about Satellite Radio. I know someone who worked high-up for Sirius (and he's the reason I got Sirius) but I can't get a response from his email anymore.

Yeah I'll definitely ping Rebecca and see what Sirius interviews can be done. I believe that Corey Deitz did a podcast with Bubba. On-air personalities would be great. Anyway, there's a world of possibilities.
Here's some ideas for names I was thinking: "Daily Orbitcast." "Orbitcast Today." "Weekly Orbitcast." "Orbitcast Week In Review" ... you can see where I'm going here - pretty unoriginal.
I think it's time for another giveaway contest.

great job ryan.
If you need any help with it (possible co-hosts?, finding interviews, etc.) just ask!
Thanks!

You just need an ultra catchy jingle like Sniffin.

The Weekly Orbiter? Or just The Orbiter. That may sound like a newspaper.
Or Orb Weekly. The Orb Hunter. Orbitcast LIVE. Anyways, good move ryan, keep it up.

Hows about Orbitcast Live?
Posted by: FaFaFluFly ? | August 27, 2006 6:04 PM
A Sniffen jingle would be hilarious. Can't really sing "Saghir" tho. Too bad I don't have his lovely radio voice. :)
Definitely will improve the overall experience (enhanced podcast, etc), I just wanted to get this episode out there and then worry about making it sound cool later. It's really all about the content afterall.
* Contest coming soon! *
