This video says it all...
Patrice argues the point perfectly. The reality is that with comedy - or even the attempt of comedy - someone, somewhere, will be offended. Obesity kills 300,000 people in the U.S., but that doesn't stop people from making fat jokes. Why is there no "outcry" there? That's because sometimes comedy can be dark and people want the opportunity to laugh at otherwise depressing subject matter.
Satellite radio channels that are clearly labeled as "explicit" channels - with the full availability of blocking that channel - is where content like this can reside, unaltered. If you don't like it, don't listen. The only time when the "public" (and I use that term loosely) is offended is when pirated audio is distributed around the internet.

O'Neal owned that segment..hands down.
Patrice is the best!!

Way to go Patrice! Nice to see him take Sonia to task when she kept saying "people" want a change, but would not say what people.
As everyone else in the media has been doing, notice how the host and Sonia both made it seem like Opie and Anthony made the rape joke, yet it was a homeless man who was a guest of the show that said it. So in the media's world, we can now file a complaint with the FCC and move to get John Gibson fired because he allowed Patrice to use some sexual references on his show. What goes around comes around.
I never thought I would agree with the pres on NOW! Nothing funny about rape, especially the first lady. Even though I don't have to listen, I don't like my money supporting this kind of stuff. They keep it up and I'll gas my XM sub.
Hahahha. It really sucks that Patrice (or anyone for that matter) has to explain common sense to a person that is supposed to be educated. At the end he said that she is reacting to what someone told her she should be offended by what was said. I still do not understand how someone can argue that they shouldn't worry about turning on the radio and hearing something offensive. Do people have to continue to be idiots?
Patrice Fatty sucks! What a bunch of rubbish. He clearly does not know how derogatory O&A's comments were...this damn world.
I must have missed the correct clip but did they ever say rape. Or did they just say hold down the woman. Maybe it was just aggressive sex.
How about the donkey punch part. Too funny.
By all means ronman, please cancel your XM subscription now. Why wait? Just go ahead and stop paying for what you think is a despicable service.
Vote with your wallet and cancel XM. And then you won't have a reason to come here anymore, to the betterment of the entire site.
I agree Ronman.
There's nothing funny about persuading someone's grandmother to ride the Sybian either. Nothing funny about using a shock collar to electrocute a girl's vagina. Definitely nothing funny about spraying a man's freshly shaved genitals with carburetor cleaner.
While is why there's at least 120+ other channels I listen to.
Ronman wrote: "Nothing funny about rape, especially the first lady. "
Why especially the First Lady ? If the joke was directed at someone else it would somehow be less offensive to you ? Why is she so special ?
This entire video is pure gold when it comes to the freedom of speech issue that is actually at hand.
Patrice deftly articulates why this woman is just another Sharpton. He calls her out on her false outrage and delusion that she somehow represents a large group of people. And as if he couldn't have been more vindicated by trouncing her argumentatively, one of Gibson's crew actually laughs at the donkeypunch/angry pirate segment. That one moment further proves that not only does she not represent a viewpoint held by a majority, but it doesn't even represent that one room.
Bravo, Patrice. That was a grand slam for free speech in America.
Ok first of all Joe D. the word RAPE was never said. Charlie the Homeless man was ranting (as many crazy homeless people do) about how he would like to have rough sex with Rice and Bush. If holding someone down and having rough sex with them is rape then there are a ton of people that need to be in jail right now around the country. I personally didn't find the segment funny...but who are we to say if Rice or Bush WOULDN'T be up for rough sex? Do we really know how act behind closed doors?
Second, Patrice was great. I hope they have him on again to debate against the hypocrite Mancow on what is "GOOD" and what is "BAD" on radio/tv today.
"Why are you laughing? She's outraged!"
That sentence sums it all up right there.
You know that lady feels dumb as fuck after that segment. Patrice just gave her the bizz.
Patrice is my hero!
he got her so worked up she called him a fool.
great job patrice!
"There's nothing funny about persuading someone's grandmother to ride the Sybian either."
Really? You sure about that?
"Nothing funny about using a shock collar to electrocute a girl's vagina."
REALLY? I mean just reading it is hilarious.
"Definitely nothing funny about spraying a man's freshly shaved genitals with carburetor cleaner."
Actually, yes. Yes it is.
Funny isn't always supposed to make you all warm and fuzzy inside. Sometimes funny is supposed to make you very uncomfortable. That's why Jackass made 100s of millions of dollars. Not all comedy has to be, "slip on a banana peel.... oooh that must hurt"funny. Sometimes its, "Holy shit. is he about to drink horse jizz" funny.
Get it?
you know who owned that segment?
roger ailes owned that segment.
what a borefest. yes freedom of speach is being taken away.the world is comming to an end.ahhhhh!
i can see why they took o'neal off this weekend
he sucks.
the lady did have a valid point when she said the maretplace decides . look at free fm. its tanking everywhere it is.imus was a grand illusion. he did nothing in the the ratings jv and elvis did nothing in the ratings , let them go. look at rush he had that obama the magic negro bit. their were some stories about it hes still doing fine you know why? he has listners.
within the year opie and anthony will be taken off the air on free fm and they will be doing fine at xm.

You do realize that no matter how much you may despise O&A and how much you love Stern.. those two bits alone could come under fire from Womens Rights Groups..right?
Also, the Rush story was BEFORE the IMUS firing.. CBS and the media gave a specific amount of power to special interest groups and in particular Al Sharpton, no show is safe no matter how many listeners they have or how much money they make. (This includes Stern who has fewer listeners than O&A: FACT) Radio fans need to get over who they like and realize our right to be entertained is being taken away by those who speak for the "PEOPLE". Wake up. Support Free Speech and YOUR RIGHT to decide what YOU want to listen to or watch.
sternfan73 wrote: "the lady did have a valid point when she said the maretplace decides".
Usually the marketplace does decide. However, in Imus and JV & Elis' case it was not the marketplace, it was pressure from interest groups. If it were the marketplace then they would have been fired a week before any "incident" because of bad ratings.
This woman said that "...the marketplace is deciding what is funny...", I disagree. It is people like Sharpton that tell people that they should be victims. CBS and MSNBC cave to this perceived "public pressure" when, in fact, the "pressure" is only coming from a small groups of sheep that drink Sharpton's kool-aid.
It's very simple, if you don't like something then don't listen to it. That's how the marketplace truly decides.
ignore sternfan. objectivity is not his forte.
Neither is breathing with his mouth closed.
Thank you John Robert Rietz. I think the same thing everytime I hear someone in the media talks about this. O'Reilly, etc.
Bottom line should be this: everyone who's listening to O&A or Stern is doing so because they made a choice to listen. People pay for the service and they tune in to the channel - the 'marketplace' is the majority of these listeners, NOT the folks who take offense.
If you're offended, CHANGE THE STATION. Joking about a rape (even though literally it wasn't) is NOT illegal and the hosts weren't suggesting that listeners should act on it. Context is everything, and O'Reilly seems to exploit the lack thereof quite nicely.
here he comes, the Orbicast comment cancer has chimed in with his usual slanted nonsense.... 'who saw this coming?'
I agree Ryan, Patrice was able to articulate his point well. The double standard for comedy in radio has gone far enough, hopefully this point gets hammered home more and more in the next few weeks/ months.
It's unfortunate these foxnews pieces are so short, I could watch him debate these agenda driven tools all day.
Sorry Schimshamity for misquoting you.. it should have been SternFan73504465464554746747567658 that I should have quoted.
I can't believe that anyone who has SATRAD would complain about the content. The reason that we get satellite is because we want more CHOICES in what we listen to. You can choose to listen or not. By the way eveything is funny and fair game. Who would have thought there would every be a Nazi joke? Thank god for Hogan's Heroes!

Patrice kills again! Somebody will be offended by something all the time. Sonia and Ronman want to live in their little antiseptic world where bunnies roam free and flowers are everywhere and everyone loves everyone else. Porn is offensive, why are they suddenly going after radio DJs? Its hypocrisy.
Patrice rules! Dont forget to see him at the Traveling Virus Tour.
Patrice is one funny guy who puts it all in perspective. Remember everyone, your show could be next with the PC police.
As a Stern fan I feel this is absolutly ridiculous. They did a bit on a pay service that wasn't a illegal. Nothing should come from this.
The anti-semetism on that show is much more offensive than that bit. And you know what, I don't feel the need to rant and rave and scream for O&A to be fired.
I just don't listen.
well, the PC police have won another battle. ron & fez just announced that O&A have been suspended by XM for 30 days. no live shows, no worst ofs, nothing.
I think they intentionally self-destructed to avoid the embarassment of yet another failure. It's a pre-emptive strike before they get canned for their 0.0 ratings.
Another thought,
"By all means ronman, please cancel your XM subscription now. Why wait? Just go ahead and stop paying for what you think is a despicable service.
Vote with your wallet and cancel XM. And then you won't have a reason to come here anymore, to the betterment of the entire site."
O&A suspended for one month? Guess i'll be keeping my XM sub and i'll continue to read this site and ocasionally post.
Ronman
Ronman, think for a minute. XM radio exists to provide uncensored content for those willing to pay for it. Without that, they will cease to exist.
I suppose you also supported Jerry Falwell's libel suit against Hustler? Do you think that HBO should be made to cancel the Sopranos because they killed Vito for being gay & shoved a pool cue up his ass? Should South Park be cancelled? WAKE UP.
At some point, thinking Americans have to realize the PC police do not stop.
First they came for the shock-jocks, I remained silent; for I am not a fan & their humour hurts my feelings.
When they come for you, there may be nobody left to speak out.
and now patrice is going to have a podcast in which he says anything he likes! i can't wait! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rl6UmdPnROM
