Pioneer Inno 2? (Speculation Alert!)

Pioneer Inno2Apparently mentions of a Pioneer Inno 2 (Model # GEXINNO2BK) have been popping up all over the Internets lately.

First there's this listing over at Focus Camera, which describes it as the "Pioneer xm inno 2 with ipod built in" - curious. Digital Foto Club has it listed the same way. Curiouser. J&R also has it listed, but with the regular Inno name and specs - yet the GEXINNOBK2 part number is displayed. Curiouser and curiouser.

The "with ipod built in" is obviously the biggest eyebrow raiser - either it's a massive Freudian slip, or the mindless substitution of "ipod" for what should "mp3" as a moniker. My guess is the latter because "with ipod built in" just doesn't make any sense.

Now we still haven't seen much of the X2G-100 from last month, which Audiovox is now is saying is pushed to February 2007 (originally November 2006).

I'll take a wild guess here and assume that the Audiovox X2G-100 is the sister device to the Pioneer Inno2 GEXINNO2BK. Which then leads me to believe that Audiovox, and subsequently Pioneer, is waiting post-CES to launch this badboy next-gen XM2go to the masses.

Recall that a few investment analysts (lucky bastards) got to see a pimped out Inno earlier this year and indicated that new models sporting 2Gb or more of storage may be seeing the light of day soon. Let's hope it's the "or more" option.

Thanks JW!

after some digging I noticed 2 differences. BK at the end seems to indicate BLACK and there are 50 channel presets as opposed to 99. Other details do not seem available. but since its popping up in more places I am moving this from my BS pile to the Speculation pile. I do however think that "built in Ipod" may simply be the sites metod of saying MP3. God forbid we fuel Apple/XM or Sirius partnership speculation.

What about the rumors of a black inno for the holidays? This seems more likely than an Inno2 already. XM likes to debut new products in the early spring - with the skyfi3 being an obvious exception

Yeah, 2GB would be nice. My Inno fills up like Lil' Jimmy when Chyna's in the room.

It's tempting to think this might have something to do with the patent Apple filed some months ago, that was mentioned on this site and on Satellite Tech World. The term "Ipod" is not supposed to be used generically, and is the trade mark of Apple, Inc.

If this combines the Apple recording codec along with XM capability, this could be a very important product- to say the least.

Time to wait...could we be looking at an Inno 2 with less bugs and more space? I'll stay with the MyFi for now and wait patently.

I think the biggest indication of an Inno 2 is that the first model is going for $179.

I hope if they come out with another one it's got more space then just 2gb. Put in say 4gb and it's 'product lifetime' can be longer.

Sure its tempting but if you look at products like Kleenex, Xerox and JetSki, those are all trade marks owned buy companies but are still used a generic descriptions no matter who you talk to. Retail store people even use the word Ipod as a generic description. When a customer asks about Ipods they are certainly going to learn about other mp3 players offered.
