Reuters is reporting that FCC Commissioner Deborah Taylor Tate is nearing the necessary vote of approval for the merger between Sirius Satellite Radio Inc. and XM Satellite Radio Holdings Inc.
According to a source familiar with the matter, FCC Chairman Kevin Martin is near an agreement to get the support of Tate, effectively greenlighting the merger.
Tate's vote would give Martin the three votes needed to approve the deal.

Well at the very least this merger is getting the go ahead somewhere between the Martin and Adelstein proposal. I hope tate says, "we should have assesed penalties, but we are giving them credit for time served since this process was sooooooo overdone and not fair to either company.

I just called Commissioner Tate's office at 202.418.2500 and URGED her to say NO to this "merge" to monopoly scheme because it will hurt me as a satellite radio consumer. At the very least she needs to place a 6-9 year price freeze on the deal an include HDradio with every satrad receiver.
