Samsung Helix XM Satellite Radio

XM Satellite Radio just unveiled the new Samsung Helix XM2go unit. Unlike the Samsung Nexus, the Helix provides live XM reception for portable listening, as well as storing MP3s, WMA files, and XM satellite radio content for playback anywhere, anytime.  Plus, the Helix lets the user "tag" songs heard on XM for online purchase from the XM + Napster service.

"For the first time ever, you can listen to live satellite radio and play MP3s on a single, wearable device," said Hugh Panero, President and CEO of XM Satellite Radio.

The Samsung Helix will MSRP for a whopping $399.99 - so you early adopters with big wallets can enjoy this device when available in the first quarter of 2006. Prices will be sure to drop as time goes on.

The Samsung Helix XM2go player weighs a mere 4.5 ounces and measures 3.7 inches high, 2.2 inches wide, and 0.6 inch deep. Want the full deets? Of course you do! Check em out after the jump...

The Samsung Helix features include:

  • Live XM Satellite Radio on the go, in the car, or at home
  • Flash memory for MP3 files, WMA files, and XM content; Samsung Helix can store up to 50 hours of XM programming.
  • Color display screen
  • Easy-to-use interface, which lets users save and delete content, create personal playlists, and find and play back their favorite songs
  • XM + Napster feature that allows users to bookmark the names of songs heard on XM, connect the Samsung Helix player to the PC, and purchase the bookmarked tracks instantly from the XM + Napster online service.
  • The ability to store XM content by song, by channel, or by scheduled session
  • Ability to create unique playlists with a mix of XM content and personal music collection
  • Enhanced storage features, which allow more recording sessions at various times, as well a memory buffer for "catching" the beginning of a song
  • Customizable stock ticker and sports ticker
  • Category list for saving and accessing favorite channels
  • TuneSelect, which alerts the listener to a favorite artist or song whenever it is played on any XM channel
  • Integrated, wireless FM transmitter for beaming XM to any FM radio frequency.
The Samsung Helix comes packaged with all of the accessories needed for portable or home use. An optional car docking station is available separately.

I am planning to buy the Helix as soon as tomorrow. I am having trouble figuring out if the Built-in wireless transmitter is ready to transmit to an FM station right out of the box, like my roady was. I saw and FM modulator adapter for the Helix for sale and I am confused. Thanks in advance for your help.

Love the XM2Go, but part of the reason I purchsed it was for the built-in FM Modulator.. now I found out that the feature has been disabled in the Firmware unless in the car dock. Any advice?

At first I was stoked, but then you start to notice the serious issues in the software. It amazes me that after a week of owning the device that I found some serious flaws.

1. When recording content, it will record the same song multiple times. This is retarded, now I have 500 copies of the station identification, plus another 20 copies of the most popular songs.

2. They disabled the FM Modulator feature even though they advertise that it's supposed to work.

3. It displays the songs in the order they were recorded. It would be nice to be able to see them alphabetically listed. It is virtually impossible to find a song if you do not know the artist.

I realize #2 was an FCC regulation, but #1 and #3 are just basic features. I may decide to go with Sirius. I'm going to evaluate their product next week. I can always get a full refund on my XM radio since it advertised a built in XM modulator.

the fm xmitter is weak. use a wire or the casette transducer. it works well indoors with the integrated antenna (since i have a lot of windows), but the display is blocked by a "check antenna" message when docked without an antenna - goofy software. otherwise a decent piece of hardware.

i did not read instruction ,and just plug my divice to pc.then in my folder'my music' copying mp3.then save remove my helix .now im stoke, bicouse radio no whant to work, display froze,in middle of "scaning files".

How do I get the built in FM modulator back?
