Satellite Radio DiscountSirius XM Radio Inc. has recently launched two satellite radio discount promotions for new subscribers - and from what Orbitcast can tell - has quietly retired its other rebate programs.

The two discount programs involve getting up to $100 in a Sirius XM Rewards pre-paid Visa card, or subscribing to either Sirius or XM for $4.99/month for the first 6-months.

Both discounts end on 12/31/2009, so if you're looking to save for the holiday season, this might a great opportunity. But, as always, there's some restrictions.
The first discount is called the Rock 'n Rewards offer.

Satellite Radio $100 DiscountHere's the rules and restrictions for the Rock 'n Rewards discount:
  1. You must be a new subscriber and activate any Sirius or XM radio by 12/31/09.
  2. The discount is available by phone only, all you need to do is mention "rewards Visa"
  3. For a Sirius or XM "Everything" or a "Best of" package with 1-year prepayment, you get a $25 pre-paid Rewards card
  4. For a Sirius or XM "Everything" with 2-year prepayment, you receive a $75 Rewards Visa card
  5. For a Sirius or XM "Best of" with 2-year prepayment, you receive a $100 Rewards Visa card

The second satellite radio discount is called the Getting Started Plan:
Satellite radio subscription discountHere's the rules and restrictions for the Sirius XM Getting Started discount:
  1. Again, you must be a new subscriber and activate any Sirius or XM radio by 12/31/09.
  2. The Getting Started discount is also only available by phone only. Ask for the "getting started" plan when talking to a rep
  3. For a Sirius or XM "Everything" subscription with 1-year commitment, you pay only $4.99/month for the first 3-months and the regular price thereafter
  4. For a Sirius or XM "Best of" subscription with 1-year commitment, you pay only $6.99/month for the first 3-months and the regular price thereafter
  5. For a Sirius or XM "Everything" subscription with 2-year commitment, you pay only $4.99/month for the first 6-months and the regular price thereafter
  6. For a Sirius or XM "Best of" subscription with 2-year commitment, you pay only $6.99/month for the first 6-months and the regular price thereafter

Again, these two discounts are available by phone only - so make sure you mention either "rewards Visa" or "getting started" to the customer service representative - and are available for new subscribers only.

This is an example of why the average "Joe" on the street is completely confused about satellite radio. It's not that it's so hard to figure out these deals - there are just too goddamn many deals for an already skeptical American public to contend with. This is just more of the nickle and dime-ing bullshit that is confounding the already befuddled masses that relate and respond to SIMPLICITY! Too many options, provisions, stipulations, restrictions, etc. KISS - keep it simple, stupid... should be this companies mantra. Instead, they do everything they can to complicate matters. Just look at how simple Netflix is. My brother is the most dysfunctional, useless, apathetic dumb ass on the planet; but he figured Netflix out really fast and loves the service. Their price/package plans are not complex, and obvious to figure out. Sirius/XM - if you can't figure out how to do things.... could you please at least copy someone who does!

Has anyone done the math on this stuff? If you do, you'll notice it's not much of a deal at all. If you calculate how much it will cost you for example, for 2 years using either the online price when you sign up and use no discounts (they give you a 2 year commitment discount without any coupons being involved)...... and compare this with the current Getting Started plan.... and compare this with the Reward Debit Plan... The end results are all within $30, big deal! In fact, if you want 2 years of Sirius Everything...

The getting started plan will cost you $263
The Reward Debit Plan will cost you $235 (and the hassle of screwing around waiting for a debit card to arrive and making sure you use the whole thing)
Just going online and buying a 2 year subscription is $245!!

For $10 extra, just go online, forget all this debit card bonus special hassle, and move on with the holidays!

People are saying that they are getting one year for $77. Just keep calling until you get a rep that will honor the special price.
