Satellite Radio hires their own lobbyists

Sirius and XM have tapped the high-profile firm Quinn Gillespie & Associates LLC to lobby the federal government on their proposed merger, according to a disclosure form filed today.
The firm was founded by Jack Quinn, who served as counsel to President Bill Clinton from 1995 to 1997, and Ed Gillespie, a Republican Party strategist who served as the Republican National Committee chairman during the 2004 election cycle.
In addition to Quinn and Gillespie, who are registered to lobby on behalf of the companies, several other veteran former Capitol Hill and White House officials are listed in the disclosure form.
They include: Jeff Connaughton, who worked as special assistant to the counsel to President Clinton in 1994 to 1995; Kevin D. Kayes, who most recently served as chief counsel to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev.; Allison Giles, who served as chief of staff to the House Ways and Means Committee under then Chairman Bill Thomas, R-Calif.; Elizabeth Hogan, who worked as special assistant to the Commerce Department; and, Christopher McCannell, who was chief of staff to Rep. Joseph Crowley, D-N.Y.

I agree with Mike****
- Anti Merger

Let me check wackbag.com to see what my stance is on the merger.
Oh. It tells me to be anti merger for some reason. It also tells me to re-sub even if I flushed my Roady down the toilet.
SOLIDARITY! That'll show XM who's boss!
It's a good thing I can think for myself and not take commands from some over reacting douchefart named "zagman76". If I had been marching along with the pests, I would have already canceled my sub, smashed my radio, protested XM in front of CBS (who have nothing to do with what's been happening), bought a NEW radio, re-subbed, and harassed the FCC, thereby bringing even MORE unwanted attention on the boys.
With fans like you guys, who needs Sterntards? You do a fine job of looking stupid all on your own.

I was on the fence about the merger, but felt that if they start down the path, it would be better to go through with it than to fail -- I think that if the merger fails, sat radio will have big problems.
Interesting times ahead...

Maybe they are timing this perfect, the FCC clock is just about to start......These are some heavy hitters as far as lobbyist go, and I really hope this merger goes through. One lean-mean satellite radio provider will be beaming down on the NAB's empty heads........just sayin'.

I have a million dollars that says the end product of the merger will be sirius with baseball , thats it. XM and all its staff are more than likely updating their resumes in case the merger does go through. And that is an absolute shame since I know for sure that XM is the superior brand on all fronts, and all sirius is is Hoo Hoo and the NFL.
And yes, I did cancel because of the O&A suspension/firing, but if I do subscribe again, it will be if/when the merger fails.

if it fails i think sirius will have big problems , but xm will slowly limp over the finish line.

I don't sub to Sirius. I'm currently enjoying 3 months of free XM on both of my radios after calling up and feigning outrage that the boys were "fired".
I don't wait for orders from talking heads or message board mods. Nobody programs me. Unlike the anti-merger pests that have replied to this thread and every other post regarding the merger.

XM really doesn't care about it's listeners, and they really don't care about the company..The people in charge, the people who will make the money if the merger goes through, want this to happen so bad that they will lie about any and all aspects of the merger... These people have given up on the satrad concept and now they just want out!! They want their money that they thought they would have by now and leave the table with a grin rather then trying to make it work.. Because when the going got tough at XM, the XM execs turned and ran.. XM was the best, and then they started to be hunted down by Sirius and when the (sub) gap started to shrink they had to bail.. It's easier to bail rather than fight and try new things.. I had said before the merger that when Sirius got to the point of being even in subs that XM just has to look to their past to see what they were doing right, and then go back to the old drawing board.... Would that be so tough?? eliminate some channels and bring the sound quality back up, or eliminate some redundant channels and add some channels that were truely nich... NEVER MIND... R.I.P. XM Radio, the old XM Radio.. The "gotta have more channels of sub-standard" XM radio. just like A.M., Just like F.M., XM Radio...
