Fans who are anticipating the upcoming official Sirius XM iPhone App (or who were disappointed when NiceMac's iPhone app got killed) will be pleased with this news. You can now get satellite radio on your iPhone using an app call Pocket Tunes Radio. Yep, right now.
Pocket Tunes Radio is an app for the iPhone which connects your iPhone to thousands internet radio stations for a cost of $9.99.
With their latest 5.2 software update, Pocket Tunes now gives access to both Sirius Internet Radio and XM Radio Online. Of course, you must have a subscription to either service.
The initial setup requires that you login and setup your listening preferences, but once it's done it's smooth sailing. As iPhone Savior put it, "I was listening to Howard Stern and then quickly moved onto several other music stations with ease." Check out the instructions for XM here and for Sirius here.
Pocket Tunes Radio looks like a no-brainer until Sirius XM Radio Inc. comes out with their own official app (which will be free).

Alright, I apologize for calling you an asshole on Twitter, although you sorta still deserve it because you still fooled me :P
As much as I want my O&A fix on my iPod Touch, I'm not going to pay $9.99 for an app to do it, especially when the official app is A) going to be free and B) coming pretty much any day now. Just the same though, for anyone willing/gullible enough to bite on this, enjoy.
I'd be happy if Sirius XM made a html portal so artist/song info could be displayed and music could be heard on any 3g2, 3g2/aac streaming phone.
I wouldn't pay $9.99 to listen to those two losers either. Soon enough they'll be available on podcasts exclusively.

It now includes SIRI, XM,and Live365. All for $9.99 and in aacPlus v.2. Not bad.

I've got this working on my phone. While 9.99 wasn't ideal to pay, the Sirius app was announced to be in Q2 which just started. Additionally, this app works with other website streams like my local public radio. I hope the sirius app comes out soon but this will hold me over for now, thanks a ton for posting this!
I bought the app and it is pretty good, not nearly as good as usirius, but it works. I only bought it because I know that it will be a while before they come out with the official app.
you dont need to pay for anything, just go to http://mobile.musicdock.com/ and login, it worked on my pc and windows mobile phone
pretty extensive list of stations, however I am already overwhelmed with music sources and have difficulty paying for 9.99 for an app to add another music source.
No one really knows when the free SIRI app is scheduled to come out other than sometime in the second quarter.
It's great that pocket tunes developed an app that will allow SIRI & XM users to listen on their I-Phone. They should get the $9.99 for developing the app.
Pocket Tunes beat SIRI to the punch. I think that is a little bit of a black eye for SIRI but it is well deserved for them taking a backseat approach. They should not have to be playing catch-up all the time.
I am long SIRI, I am a subscriber and love my satellite radio.
Any app that will expand and help SIRI is fine with me. Besides, they should have a little pressure to keep the ball rolling.
NiceMac bought the app when StarPlayr was discontinued and started testing it. We are happy that Sirius XM is readily available on the iPhone which was one of goals. It is good to see another company was able to take the initiative and follow through with their web based implementation. Hats off to Pocket Tunes Radio. Congrats!

You need the 2.2.1 I-Phone update, so if you have a jailbroken phone below that version...you're effed. You'll have to download the update and unjailbreak your phone and most likely lose all your apps. Why can't someone get this right?
0.0 Game over for O&A which really means DOA.
Thats a good April fools joke
happy April fools day
Try mobile.musicdock.com
I paid the $9.99 for this app right after the Orbitcast tweet appeared. It's not as nice as how StarPlayr would have been, but one thing that's really sweet is that you can set up favorites for both XM channels and terrestrial stations -- and the terrestrial list is huge (look under the Home button on the Web section of the app). I've been playing the Virus (and other XM channels) all morning and it's worked perfectly.
Still can't record. Useless.
not an april fools joke. i purchased this a week ago and have been enjoying sirius at work on my phone (since my work blocked the web access).
Royalty rates. The stations will now pay $1.50 for every song heard by 1,000 listeners in 2009, rising to $2.50 per 1,000 listeners in 2015.
(The check is in the mail)
Per the LA Times
Works great on my jailbroken iphone with version 2.2, woohoo! Would really have liked Starplayr, but at least there's something for now.
This will work on an Ipod Touch, correct? Via Wi-fi?
Jed...how were you able to download it? Do you have 2.2.1? It won't let me download it..I've got a jailbroked 3g with 2.2..Did you jailbreak after getting 2.2.1? Help me out, Henry...
Yes
this works with 2.2 jailbroken iphone, at least we can listen to it for now until the official app comes from sirius xm
Can you get the 128kb stream on Pocket Tunes or are you stuck with 32kb? Any way to choose?
So why did this get approved but Starplayr didn't? Is it because it's web-based and Starplayr wasn't?
I'm having a serious problem trying to add the XM online service for $2.99. I finally called today to try to get it resolved (still on hold) and the lady I just talked to tried to slip under a lifetime subscription for me ("while we're at it, I'll just go ahead and set you up for a lifetime subscription"). After I asked her to confirm for me the amount I bluntly told her that I thought that was kind of a sleezy thing to do. Unavailed, she then tried to get me signed up to the year subscription. Now I'm upset and I'm yelling "JUST ADD THE SERVICE TO MY ACCOUNT!". Still on hold......
I love this service, but they need new management. Plain and simple.
Yes, you can get the 128k stream in all it's "near CD quality" glory. You can choose in your musicdock settings whether to receive the 32k or the 64k stream...the 64k stream is now the 128k stream.
I had a $10 iTunes gift card still on my iTunes account, so this was PERFECT timing! Thanks wifey! GREAT stocking stuffer!
On the downside, it appears that whoever manages "mobile.musicdock.com" hasn't updated in a while. Channels have OLD logos, and a few online channels appear to be missing (most notably Chrome and Backspin). Also, the artist/title info doesn't update on its own..you need to refresh the page.
But otherwise, this is a GREAT fix until SIRIUS XM releases their iPod/iPhone app!
How is it this iPhone App company can offer Sirius XM via their interface but NiceMac can't?
Cool, thanks!
The Internet radio works fine but xm keeps sayin buffering and never loads?
And help?
P.S. You don't need pocket tunes to listen to the musicdock feed on the iphone. Wunder Radio is only 5.99 and gets as good if not better reviews. I just tested it this morning. Just go to the web browser section. You can bookmark the musicdock site.
Here's the link:
http://itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewSoftware?id=292233889&mt=8
P.P.S.- isn't it kind of sketchy that musicdock has our login information?
Frank/Henry, I just have 2.2 jailbroken and it downloaded and works fine, I didn't upgrade to 2.2.1, didn't see a benefit to upgrade to the new firmware then re-jailbreak. Sorry, don't have a good answer why it's not working for you.
Is Howard Stern the new imus?
why add a crutch to your iPhone?
why pay for radio like a newb and sucker while there are so many more and better audio options available on the iPhone?
For those of us that love the non music programming on XM and Sirius there is nothing that can touch that on the iPhone. XM/Sirius have Howard, Opie and Anthony, MLB, NHL, NCAA, NFL, Comedy and the list goes on and on. I love this APP.

I understand that what I am about to post has nothing to do with this topic, but I wanted others to see where this ongoing nightmare with XMRO is currently at. Below is the most recent response from XMRO technical support. Now they are sticking with the story that if you locked in prior to March 10th, you will have 32k not 128k. You'd still have to pay for the upgrade. I can only guess that they really just don't care. Could they really need the $2.99 a month so badly that they would risk the chance of losing existing subscribers over it? Has anyone that was an existing subscriber and extended thier contract prior to 3/11 getting the 128k as no charge?
Dear Mr. Baxter,
Thank you for contacting XM.
We understand your concerns as it relates to the implementation of an XM Radio Online service fee.
In response to your email, the XM Radio Online service fee was explained in the offer which is paraphrased below:
"On March 11, 2009, we will upgrade the online listening experience to near CD-quality digital audio. Satellite radio subscriptions will no longer include internet radio at no charge. If you upgrade your monthly, quarterly or semi-annually subscription to a 1 ? 3 years annual savings plan, prior to this date, you will continue to get online listening for FREE for the length of your subscription.
This is your chance to keep listening online at no charge. After March 11th premium online listening will cost $2.99 per month".
If we can be of further assistance, please feel free to send an additional email or you may contact a Listener Care Representative directly at 1-800-XM RADIO (800-967-2346). Our Listener Care Centers hours of operation are as follows:
Monday - Saturday: 8AM ? 11PM EST
Sunday: 8AM - 8PM EST

Alright, Ed Baxter. You and I have some decision making to do. Is this the final straw? Will you (and I) man up and dump XM? If that email from Nadine is in any way accurate I may just have to move on. There's only so much B.S. I can take from this company.
The whole lock in campaign was clearly a con. I never would have locked in had I known that I would be receiving a lower quality stream as a reward for my renewing. I mean, I love Oprah and all, but not that much.
How said was that. These two idiots lose 14 stations and Howard isn't even on regular radio anymore to really compete with them. 0.0 = Game over for DOA..... Oops I mean O&A.
I was getting too many problems with this app losing connection. Also, the web browser was very slow. I decided to try Wunder Radio using the same technique and it seems to work much better.
Wander Radio has more settings and is much better reconnecting. You have to relaunch Pocket Tunes to get it to reconnect a lot of the times.
App works great dumped all those other radio apps for this... FINALLY got my Howard, BPM, Raw Dog comedy..... I get a kick out of people complaining about 10 bucks..... geeez guys thats a big mac and shake...... running on 3.0 works great.......... Babba booey to all!!!!!!! THANK YOU Pocket Tunes
I can't wait to get the official Sirius XM app, but having said that, I picked this up today, listening to XM right now. I bought it because it pretty much enables me to listen to any feed that I didn't already have access too, including Live 365. That was good for me.
This coming from a fan of a show thats on once a week.
Get on firmer ground before getting jumpy there jabrone.
R&F live reads are better then any planed bit Howard ever comes up with.
Who cares how many dolts listen to that droll.
The problem with that letter is that it does not answer your question. They imply you'll keep 32k by not calling it the "premium" audio service, but it's far from clear.
Hell, I'd give them their damn three bucks if they would upgrade the online listening to include some dropped channels, maybe add some new online-only ones. As you said, it's like they just don't care.
So how long will it take before Sirius/XM shuts these guys down? Did they forget all about "no third party can stream our stuff" clause they have?
So if I have a sirius account and only a Iphone, my only choice would be Pocket Tunes or wait and wait for the sirius app?
Apple finally approved the Live365 Radio native app for iPhone/iPod Touch. Search "Live365" in the iPhone App Store.
