SIR: Sirius Internet Radio
SIRIUS Satellite Radio has filed for a series of trademarks all revolving around the accronym "SIR" for Sirius Internet Radio. All three applications provide the following decription...
Radio broadcasting services; webcasting services; streaming of audio, visual and data information via a global computer network, mobile telephone or other electronic or digital communications network or digital communications device; electronic and digital transmission and delivery of voice, data, text, images, graphics, signals and messages via a global computer network, mobile telephone or other electronic or digital communications network or device; providing audio, visual and data information available for download via a global computer network, mobile telephone or other electronic or digital communications network or digital communications device
I assume this can only be related to the rumored WiFi service support on the upcoming Sirius Stiletto SL100 and the Zing-powered device (whatever it'll be called).

Sirius was the first to offer an MPS/DSR device. now they are the first to offer service over WiFi.
Sirius has had the content lead for a long time now. its great to see the new sat leader also offer the best in hardware.

"Can't wait to have the full spectrum of Sirius entertainment on the internet."
It would be nice to have the NFL channel available thru the Sirius stream.

I suspect it's more than WiFi for the new portables.
Since Stern streaming started, the Manage Account page has featured a section entitled "Services". Within this is a section for "SIRIUS Satellite Radio", with the ESNs for the radios associated with an account listed.
As a separate subsection is "SIRIUS Internet Radio" which manages login information for the streaming. There's a column for "Current Active Service", as there is on the Satellite Radio subsection. The conclusion that I reach is that streaming access is now controlled by the same methods as the overall subscription DB; this DB design decision only makes sense if the plan is to separate satellite subscriptions from online streaming.
This means that SIRIUS Internet Radio will likely include a means for non-satellite subscribers to subscribe to listen online. It is this option, that of redoing the streaming infrastructure to handle non-satellite-tied subscriptions, that I suspect accounts for Stern streaming coming several months after his arrival.
SIRIUS Internet Radio: $8.95 a month, for most of the channels on SIRIUS Satellite Radio. Bank on it.

leviramsey. We shall see and I like your thoughts. I just hope they don't make the us normal hardware subscriber types pay more for online streaming. If that is the case it is back to lugging my radio into the office.
