Sirius and Celtic Football Club sign exclusive agreement

Sirius Satellite Radio and the Celtic Football Club have partnered up to make Sirius the exclusive satellite radio provider of Celtic Football Club.

Starting Sunday, August 5th, Sirius will broadcast every Celtic Premier League game live, including the celebrated matches against their historic rivals, the Rangers. The start date coincides with the with Celtic vs Kilmarnock match to air at 9am ET.

All games, which will feature the official Celtic FC broadcast, will air on Sirius channel 126. Other non-Premier League Celtic matches might also get added to the schedule.

Founded in 1888, Celtic (the reigning champions of the Scottish Premier League) is one of the most dominant football clubs in the history of the sport, winning the Scottish League title a remarkable 41 times.

Last May, Celtic won the Scottish Premier League title for the second consecutive year and the fifth time in the last seven seasons. The team then went on to play their way into the final 16 of the UEFA Champions League, the world’s premier club competition, with a 1-0 victory over Manchester United before being defeated by the eventual champions, AC Milan.

Sirius also broadcasts UEFA Champions League matches and, as a partner of the English Premier League, airs multiple live Premiership soccer matches each week. Sirius is also the exclusive satellite radio broadcaster of Chelsea Football Club and airs every Chelsea Premier League game live.

The exclusives just get more and more exiting! Sirius is going to get so many subscribers now. They might actually have more people than XM, because of Celtic Soccer, sorry football.

Flap Jackson, Annoymous Coward, Zulu Man: How is more diversity in sports channels a bad thing, exactly? I mean granted that it's not as hard hitting as XM's live coverage of hearing putts in the PGA, while everyone in the crowd is silent and announcers whisper.

I can't wait for the Curling league to be on Sat Rad! I just hope they did not spend a large amount on this. I have never heard of this group. I know Soccor is the most popular sport in the world and if the meger goes through they can stream it to Worldspace when they finnaly get up and running in Europe, But Again this is an Exclusice Sat Rad not Exclusive Audio partner. Any internet radio or terestrial radio can air this content.

Celtic football can be seen on a pay per view basis,unless you live in the UK.Games are only streamed live in Britain.If you can tell me where it's free I'd appreciate it.This will be another niche audience like any other sport.If it retains even a small % of subscribers then it can't be a waste.I have been a Sirius subscriber for 5 years and there are a LOT of channels I don't listen to,but someone must be listening,or they wouldn't be available.No? Go Bhoys!!

i, for one, wouldn't mind seeing more of the *real futbol* on SatRad...i was completely fixated to my XM during the World Cup last summer, and i'm looking forward to listening to Euro08 as well...i hope.

oh, how i wish there were a true dedicated futbol channel...i mean, hell...both the NBA and NHL have one. thats justification enough right there.

Sirius 125 is effectively the Sirius Soccer Channel... even during the offseason, pretty much all it carries is the two soccer talk shows (World Soccer Daily and The Football Show) and replays of classic games from the leagues that Sirius has the rights to.

During the season, of course, live game broadcasts from the Premier League and Champions League (and now Celtic) join the lineup as well as the BBC's soccer talk show 606.

This isn't really that new... the agreement was reached and annouced months ago... it only goes into effect now.

lol - sirius signs some shitty sports deals? Soccer is the worlds most popular sport, smart move in my opinion, not only that but beckham coming to america - might even make some more soccer fans. You never know.

NBA, NFL, Nascar, great sports. Only thing they are missing is MLB. NHL - well, we all know that NBC cuts off the stanley cup for a horse race, must be a popular sport *fart noise*.

and if you add the two spanish channels thats 5 dedicated 24/7 soccer channels

I would love that they rebroadcast the english station talks sports just like they do the bbc 1
