Following an STA application a few days earlier, SIRIUS Satellite Radio has filed for another Special Temporary Authority with the FCC. This time, the STA is for an antenna to operate in the Ku band, that will act as a hub for delivering audio programming to their terrestrial repeater network.
Why is this significant? Because it's looking like Sirius is trying to get away from 3rd-party dependencies. That's a major change in their strategy.

Man, you really lost me on this article. I'll be the first to admit that I know little to nothing about the various radio bands and how they are used. I'd really appreciate it if you or one of the other readers could explain what this means in lay person terms.
It's really just SIRIUS looking to boost the reliability of their network. Looks like they had some bad luck with some 3rd party partner(s) (not sure who they are) and they're looking to move away from using outside companies to support the network.
