Sirius is Sprint's Most Popular Audio Service
Sirius Satellite Radio says they are Sprint Nextel's more popular audio entertainment service, according to CEO Mel Karmazin.
"If you were to speak to Sprint they would tell you we are (the most popular) of all the audio choices," Karmazin said yesterday at the Reuters Media Summit in New York.
While he didn't say how many Sirius subscribers the wireless provider has signed up, Karmazin did say that, "It doesn't move the needle."
On the topic of other future wireless provider partnerships:
"It depends on the deal and what the economics are. We're only interested in doing a good deal," Karmazin said.

It's Sprint's "most popular"? What are the alternatives?

I'm an XM subscriber, and I'd go with Sirius out of those choices too. Kind of a non-story there Mel.

None of you XM fan boys dumping on Mel seem to get the fact that it's his job to tout Sirius and how cool it is and how well it's doing, which, by all the reports I've read, is slightly better than XM, but slightly lower than guidance (though we'll see when the final numbers are out). No surprise, there. The stock price reflects that.
To stay silent, frozen by inaction while the competition creeps up on you would be downright Panero-esque and that's definitely not in Mel's nature.
It's like when Gates or Ballmer tout Vista. Everyone knows it's a bloated, designed-by-committee, 5-years-too-late, piece of crap. But does anyone really expect them to admit that? No. They'll tell you it's the most secure MS OS ever! Compared to what's been foisted upon the public before, that's hardly a mean feat and it IS the truth.
In comparison to that or XM, Sirius is doing pretty well. If Mel has to adjust his 4Q guidance, I'm sure he will when he deems it prudent (Xmas eve at 10:00PM, would be my guess)...

SprintPCS has the least subscribers out of any cell phone service adding about 500,000 subs last year. Gee really getting sirius out there. And think about the amount that are overseas and compare to cingular adding nearly 1.5 million and verizion about 1.2 million sprint blows.

It's Mel's job to blow smoke up people's asses and hope they'll buy it. Fact is XM is still the market leader by several million subs. No one cares about Stern and people will be thoughly disappointed with NASCAR. MikeHunt you are the posterboy for Sirius fanboy. Comparing XM to Microsoft is ridiculous. You may not like either company but Mirosoft is the most dominant player in their industry. If only XM could suck that badly.
