Sirius' Jazz Cafe Axes DJs?
According to Sirius Uplink, five DJ are gone from Sirius Satellite Radio's Jazz Cafe (ch 71), leaving one DJ left.
Jocks Paul Cavalconte, Deborah Howlel, Maria Von Dickersohn, and Tanya Simpson are no longer listed on the channel's webpage, leaving Jeff Lorber as the sole DJ for the smooth jazz channel.
Last week it was rumored that a total of three channels would be following this "jockless" strategy, include Sirius Gold and now it appears Jazz Cafe. If my math is correct (I'm using my fingers), that leaves one channel left. Any guesses?

Thanks Steven!

They may be splitting Alt Nation into a Alternative Hits and a '90s Alt Rock Hits (my friend SISO is certain about the new '90s Alt Rock channel) and it may be that Alt Nation's DJs may get the axe -- but I guess we'll find out later.

Sirius is going a great thing. I wish Sirius and XM would get rid of all on air DJ's.

Matt:
I don't see it a great thing as people are losing their jobs in a medium where they should have them. If the channels started on auto-pilot, went to DJ then now going back, maybe I understand. But I don't understand this mismangement of money by Sirius.
XM and Sirius are radio, not an ipod.

Blame it on Stern!

Sorry Matt - can't agree with you. What differentiates our sat radio from any of hundreds of streaming music services? Answer: it is radio - they get radio right. Keep the personal touch and don't go to impersonal music streaming.

This great news. DJ's should not be on every station. On some station DJ's are very important like Hit's one, but not having DJ's on these stations make them more business freindly

I hate to be so sceptical, but I thought they were doing so well... First, they can't afford Sterns extra folks (after bragging about how well Stern and Sirius has done) and now this? I can't beleive anything Sirius says anymore...(I think its time to sale my Sirius stock)

I've noticed that all their channels have been declining (mostly in content) for some time now. Its turning into Clear Channel without commercials....
Get it together Sirius

Tell me when you've ever heard FM and ever heard Sirius.

More DJ's getting cut? I can understand wanting less DJ chatter when songs are playing, but this is satellite RADIO, not iPod radio.
How can Sirius justify paying millions for ONE guy, yet cut programming from the most important aspect of the business, the music channels?

Great, more DJ cutting. I've always wanted an automated music service, NOT. As long as DJ's don't talk over the music, I have no problem with them being on the air. In fact, I prefer them.
This is RADIO last time I checked.
Why do they have enough money to pay the likes of Stern, but not enough for DJ's?

Personally I get frustrated when I hear a DJ chattering over the beginning of a song and acting like what they have to say is interesting. Now if they’re mentioning something about a certain artist or concert that’s fine and I can deal with it. Don’t like it but I can deal with it. As long as its not during the beginning of a song of course. But when they’re talking about their personal life or opinion I could care less and get annoyed. If I want an opinion or life story I’ll listen to talk radio. Sirius pays millions for one guy (Howard Stern) because he is a huge draw. How could someone not understand paying big money to a guy who has been on top of the radio business? On air disc jockeys are not huge draws, Sirius would rather have a guy like Stern and dish out a ton of there money to him then some no name random DJ’s. Which makes perfect sense.
No it’s not an iPod but satellite radio for me is a way to hear new music I’ve never heard before. Without satellite radio I wouldn’t have a portion of the songs I have on my iPod now. I would prefer it to be streaming music with an occasional station ID. I personally just find the DJ interruption as annoying as commercials. (shorter of an annoyance though)
