Sirius launching new channel: Indie Talk

| 12 Comments | No TrackBacks

Ron SilverSirius Satellite Radio is launching a new channel, following this week's Super Tuesday primary elections, entitled "Indie Talk" on channel 110.

The goal of Indie Talk is to create "an uncensored, unfiltered forum for independent thought and opinion" - specifically targeting what Sirius calls "the blogger generation."

Headlining Indie Talk will be actor and political maverick Ron Silver, who will launch the channel alongside his new daily call-in show. Silver used to be registered as a Democrat, but broke with the Democratic Party over the War on Terrorism and spoke at the 2004 Republican National Convention. He has since re-registered as an Independent. Silver's show will air Monday-Friday from 9am - 11am ET.

It's not clear who else will join Ron Silver in this new channel, but it's being billed as giving a "voice to all individuals" and being "open to everyone."

Indie Talk will also be airing "blogcast" news updates every 20 minutes - reporting headlines and news as it unfolds on various blogs. In addition, the channel will feature "The Blog Bunker," a roundtable discussion featuring a selection of the over 100 million bloggers from around the globe.

Here here. I'm all for this channel. Unfortunately as a Sirius Canadian I probably won't get it :\

Ron SIlver a "maverick?" My arse he is -- he's a Right-wing tool and egomaniac, and this shows yet again the lie that SIRIUS gave back when they let Air America go that they'd replace that channel with a similar left-wing station. They never did, and this shows what right-wingers they are.

Nice timing, too, considering the country seems to be moving away from such radicalism.

They desperately need the merger to go through if this is what they think passes for 'non-partisan.'

What a joke.

I don't read blogs now. Why would I want a radio channel discussing blogs and bloggers? This type of stuff needs to just die in cyberspace not waste bandwidth.

LOL....Sirius, the best radio on radio? LMFAO

"I don't read blogs now."

Are you sure about that?

Edgewater Joe-- My thoughts exactly.

1. This channel doesn't have any political affiliations, so the whole "left" and "right" arguments don't hold any merit.

2. This whole putting down one satellite radio company because you just happen to be a subscriber of the other is getting very old ...and three steps beyond pathetic if you're over the age of 12.

"Maverick" is the term used for any show biz person who isn't a Democrat.

For the record, I agree with you about Sirius' broken promise about a second leftie channel. They DID make that promise and they've yet to fulfill it.

"Independent" in the same way that Glenn Beck is a "different voice" - more right wing than Rush Limbaugh but presented as fair and balanced.

Yep, Sirius knows that there just aren't enough right wingers on the radio. Fans of George Bush have nobody on their side. They need more channels to get that pro-Bush point of view that you can't hear anywhere else out there... yeah, that's it.

"1. This channel doesn't have any political affiliations, so the whole "left" and "right" arguments don't hold any merit."

Nonsense. Most of the people you hear on Sirius Left hate the Democrats as much as they hate the Republicans. Try listening to Alex Bennett or Lynn Samuels some time.

Looking at this channel based on who they are touting, what you're getting from Sirius is YET ANOTHER "conservative" pro-Republican propaganda channel. Calling it "Indie" doesn't change the content.

You know, if you are going to have a guy host the "Indie" channel, one should be careful when one chooses someone who has (1) spoken loudly at the National Convention of one of the major policitical parties and (2) held a bunch of honorary type positions in the present highly partisan administration.

If one does, one should make a clearer argument - explain why they're different, not just say maverick. And switching party affiliations isn't enough, not is re-registering as an independent at the last minute.

Thus, the MSM version of "Indie" - right wing, but faking balance. Might as well be Fox.

BTW, one of the funny things about Ron Silver in particular is that he shows the Republicans obsession with Hollywood. Ronald Reagan is their hero, who starred in a movie with a chimp. Fred Thompson, TV actor, was supposed to be their savior this cycle until he showed no real campaign interest or ability. Charlton Heston - headed one of their major organizations. Sonny Bono - House of Representatives. Arnold Schwarzenegger - They actually talked about amending the constitution so he could run for president, in spite of being a first term governor. They even gave Fred Grandy ("Gopher" of Love Boat fame) four terms in Congress.

Ron Silver? C-lister. But willing to
