In addition to the big game itself, SIRIUS Satellite Radio will be partying it up with a variety of Super Bowl music and comedy specials on the big day itself, Sunday February 5th. Perfect for pre-game binge drinking, these live performances, guest hosts, and Super Bowl centric shows will be great background for your Super Bowl party. And for those of you who hate football, there's plenty of stuff to check out while everyone else is busy flushing their toilets at halftime.
A selection of some of the programming can be found after the jump...
- The Playaz Bowl will air on Hot Jamz channel 50 at 5 pm ET, hosted by reggae and R&B star Sean Paul. Some of R&B and hip-hop’s biggest stars, including Ciara, Ray J, Bow Wow, Chris Brown and others, will be featured guest DJs each hour, playing their favorite tracks and talking about their music and their lives.
- An hour of music by rap’s self-proclaimed MVP, The Game, will comprise The Pre-Game Show starting at 5 pm ET on Hip-Hop Nation channel 40, hosted by The Game’s personal DJ and Hip-Hop Nation host DJ Skee.
- Alt Nation channel 21 will broadcast a special Super Bowl After Party late night live concert from the Belly Up nightclub in Aspen, Colorado, featuring a performance by hot new artist Matisyahu, starting at midnight ET.
- GRAMMY-winning artist Gary Burton, host of Artist’s Choice on Pure Jazz channel 72 from 10am to 4 pm ET, will feature jazz artists hailing from Pittsburgh and Seattle, including Quincy Jones, Ray Charles, Art Blakey, Earl Hines, Bill Strayhorn and others.
- Fantasy Halftime Show with the Rolling Stones on SIRIUS Blues channel 74 will speculate on which tunes the band will play during halftime in Detroit – and spin the ones they should – starting at 11 am ET.
- On classic hip-hop channel BackSpin channel 43, some of the most famous musical “battles” that took place in hip-hop’s early days will be spun once an hour starting at 1 pm ET, including LL Cool J’s “Jack The Ripper,” Kool Mo Dee’s “How You Like Me Now,” MC Shan’s “The Bridge” and its answer song by Boogie Down Productions featuring KRS-1, “The Bridge Is Over.”
- SIRIUS Pops channel 86 launches the Sousa Bowl at 8 pm ET, during which Sousa’s classic compositions will be performed by the top US university marching bands, while Symphony Hall channel 80’s Super Bowl Battle will offer alternating selections by the Seattle Symphony Orchestra and the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, starting at 6:30 pm ET
- Jam On channel 17’s The Phish Bowl will feature hosts Jonathan Schwartz and Adam Foley pitting their favorite Phish concerts against each other while Andy Bernstein, author of the Phish book, The Pharmer’s Almanac Vol. 1-4, referees. To replicate the four quarters of a football game, both hosts will present four songs from their chosen Phish concert to support their argument as to which is the “greatest Phish concert,” starting at 7 pm ET.
- The Beat Bowl on dance hits channel 36 The Beat will allow SIRIUS listeners to determine its champion. Listeners can phone SIRIUS to vote for their favorite battling DJs - The Riddler, DJ Bad Boy Joe, Louie DeVito and Justin Testa – with the top vote getter becoming champion of the inaugural Beat Bowl, beginning at 6 pm ET.
- During the month-long El Megabowl de Comedy on Raw Dog comedy channel 104, listeners have been voting for their favorite comedians. On February 5th, it’s down to comedians Robert Schimmel and Dane Cook, whose bits will air back-to-back all day. Votes can be cast at 1-866-4-RAW-DOG, and winner of the inaugural El Megabowl de Comedy will be announced on February 6 at 12 pm ET.
