Sirius

Representatives from Wiley Rein LLP, counsel for Sirius Satellite Radio Inc., met with the Federal Communications Commission to discuss the merger with XM, according to an ex parte filing posted online today.

Richard E. Wiley and Gregg Elias of Wiley Rein, met with Daniel Gonzalez, Chief of Staff for FCC Chairman Kevin Martin, to review pending issues raised in recent filings. While no specific filings were mentioned, it can be assumed that these "issues raised" were those by Georgetown Partners, US Electronics, iBiquity and Clear Channel among others.

This is the first in-person meeting, on record, that the company has had with the FCC since January 11th (PDF). This most recent meeting occurred on Tuesday, March 11th.

but nothing will happen in the next 2 weeks............

;(

and two weeks after that.. and two weeks after that... and so on and so forth..

I WILL say one thing. If FCC chairman Kevin Martin gives the Sirius-Xm merger his approval, he might be dispised by the NAB, and every greasy politician who took payola to try to stop it. But he also will be the most admired and respected FCC chairman in the public's eyes, for having the balls to do what is RIGHT.

Really? I think he'd be an asshole for doing what is obviously wrong and illegal.

Mr. Martin can decide by himself and does not need any special interest to tell him what to do.
I think though that Mel Karmazin gave him the best deal possible with that a-la-carte thing.
It would open the door for TV providers to give that as well. It seems that Mr. Martin and president Bush want to be the ones that brought this to the public. Mr. Martin knows that his chair won't be there forever. He wants to leave a legacy behind him. It seems that such factors affect the decision. Let's see.

If the merger is not passed there will be one satellite radio company anyway. Then Thomas H. Lee Partners and Bain Capital will try to buy sirius. XM is in trouble and does not even own it's own satellites!! All sirius needs to do is take away baseball. Goodbye xm!

Sometime in the future looking back these FCC people will not be favored in future political circles. These FCC people's political career's will be over! I hope they can see that far.

Let them merge already!!! It's for the consumer!!

Too late for a reprieve for Martin, the FCC or the DOJ who have been jacking off in a corner for 13 fucking months.

Do you have any idea what can be accomplished in almost 400 days?

Screw them all despite any merger approval.
They are all losers in my book.

...obviously wrong and illegal? um, do you have an iPhone (AT&T only) with Internet access? Maybe you can't see the future because of your single mind, but you will soon be able to get EVERYTHING on your phone.

Sirius, sure - it's an app away. Internet Radio, an app away. TV, sure. slingbox it.

It's about the Internet, and how they can compete in the Mobile Media Device market.

Obviously.

PASS THE MERGER. TODAY. ...and stop giving the competition (Apple, etc.) the advantage.

Good site. Thanks!!!
