Sirius SUBX1 Boombox

The first universal Sirius boombox has been spotted by the eagle-eyes over at Sirius Backstage. Remember, this is the first glimpse of the upcoming Sirius' Universal Plug and Play Boomboxes which will have support for not only the Sportster 4, but also the Streamer 3 and the Sportster 3 (which has been talked about, but as of yet not seen).

The SUBX1 Universal SIRIUS Boombox will have a built-in amplifier plus speakers, and will feature an auxiliary input for other audio devices. Included with the boombox is an adjustable indoor/outdoor windowsill antenna with 20' of cable and an AC adapter.

The price listed on GoPremco (where the photo was originally discovered) is $359.99 for both the Sirius Sportster 4 and the Boombox. So minus the $169.99 for the Sportster 4, that would bring the Boombox to around $190 (yeesh).

Looks a bit large -- does it take a car battery? Almost $200 for a boom box? I think $100 is the correct price point for any of the sat radio boom boxes.

It looks like Sirius has learned a thing or two about designing a good looking Satellite unit. I hope they aren't plagued by some of the hardware and software quality issues that they've been hit with in the past, though. Good for them, and good for Satellite. Hopefully XM will come out with something new and exciting to garner more interest in _their_ service as well.

I just received the new Crutchfield catalog and it is shown on P. 48 under the Sportster 4 with a picture, item # and price of $99.99. I just checked the item #607SUBX1 on Crutchfield.com and it is not yet in their system. In the catalog it says - "New - SUBX1 A bomming boombox. Expect awesome sound out of this boombox: the SUBX1 has a subwoofer and 3-channel amp built-in so you get full low-end sound. An input lets you listen to other devices. #607SUBX1 $99.99"

GOD DAMN RICH CUNT

Never found a need for the boomboxes. At home i have a nice set of 2.1 speakers connected to my Myfi/Inno. And on the go, well, you know. Work, DirecTV.

I think GoPremco is overpricing their stuff. Look at the Sportster 4 on their product page: $229.99, and it's supposed to be $169.99. My guess for the boombox: $129.99, doing some math here and there.

satellite radio superstore has it listed at 129.99, but it says in the description the release date and price is not yet known.

Yeah, GoPremco is in Canadian Dollars. The actual price of the boombox is $99.99 USD.
