Keep checking back with Orbitcast, because if there's any info or news involving the Stiletto, you know we'll be covering it.
Thanks to quick photo work by The Deal, we (finally) have a photo of the pre-release version of Sirius' fully-portable satellite radio/MP3 player as Mel Karmazin is holding up at the Convergence 2.0 conference earlier this week.
To your right you can see Mel holding the device while he's talking about it's live on-the-go features, and that he promises that it will come out by the end of this summer.
If that's not enough, the boys over at Tech Effect were nice enough to provide a monsterous close-up photo of the device (which we believe will be known as the SIRIUS Stiletto SL100-TK1).
So without further adeau, here's what we have:
Now, the only point of reference for size we have is Mel's hand (which isn't a very scientific unit of measurement) and the connector - which looks identical to the Sportster 4's connector. So... that would put the connector's dimensions at just over 1" wide and 1/4" high, which gives us a reference point for how thick and wide the device is. Then again, this could just be a prototype.

(Engadget, Gizmodo, GSI, SSG and Sirius Backstage found it too)
Thanks to everyone who sent this in!

I see no antenna. Guess that will be the headphones?

Resembles an iPod, but more bulky, and what's that plug in on top? It looks to awkward to be a usb port.

That makes Orbitcast, GSI, SSG, Engadget, and siriusbackstage that are all running the same photo.
You've all been punked by Jedi Master Mel. the real SL100-TK1 will be unwrapped soon. stay patient folks. (what you see is def not the Stiletto!)

Not necessarily Mike. Time will tell.
Posted by: Rich ? | June 29, 2006 10:05 PM
If this is real then either
a) he is holding it upside down (with a horrible headphone input location)
or
b) No internal antenna. The unit will only receive a live signal by adding an external chunk of hardware to the unit.
I would not be surprised at all if it was the latter of the two..

If the connector is a 1/4" high.....that would make this thing almost a full inch thick. Doesn't Sirius know that thinner is better?

I heard the S100 was black. This must be a fake unit Mel is using for the paparazzi.

Something tells me Philmore is right. None of what he has in his hand seems right, everything is awkward about it.

If this thick beast is a "Stiletto", then Britney Spears is a toothpick.

Who cares about Sirius anyway? XM is already on their second generation live portable. XM and Free FM are a lot better than Sirius. Sirius has to spend all of their money on old Hoo Hoo even though nobody listens to him.

XM is shaking in their boots and rightfully so. Sirius will eventually pass XM in subs and it will be time for The Mother of All Funerals!!!
HEY NOW!!

Xact? RCA or Directed? Who is in line to make the next "portable" flop receiver for Sirius?
Posted by: tussel ? | June 30, 2006 1:00 AM
tussel -
Wistron Neweb Corp will be making the new receiver. They're known for making such receivers as the Starmate, Starmate Replay and the Sanyo CRSR-10.
Directed does not make receivers, nor does Xact. They distribute and package them however. Directed and Xact sell products made by Ki Ryung Electronics and Wistron Neweb.

Woops, my bad. Just hope its nothing like the S50, for all you Sirius fans.

Thats actually Mel's vintage cell phone from the 80's.

Tussel,
I really appreciate your posts and look forward to reading the same. You remind me of the fun times when my kids were in elementary school.

Man that is some ugly shit. And I'm just talking about Mel!

By my measurements this thing looks 4.5 inches long. Oh yeah thats a real INNO-killer alright.
Great job SIRI, welcome to the 20th century.

"XM and Free FM are a lot better than Sirius."
Glug glug glug, is that some good O&A Koolaid or what ? So XM and "Free-FM" are on the same level now, huh ? Have you listened to that network outside of the O&A show ? Guess what, still aweful. But yea, Free FM is better then Sirius *eye-roll* Bash the "hoo hoo" fans all you want, your just as bad if not WORSE !!
"XM is shaking in their boots and rightfully so. Sirius will eventually pass XM in subs and it will be time for The Mother of All Funerals!!!"
I'm still waiting for XM to sink, like I'm waiting for that "Rego" Sirius promised way back. Guess I'll be waiting awhile ....

That can't be the real unit. If it is, I'm going to laugh.
Posted by: waterwagen ? | June 30, 2006 9:26 AM
Nice manipulation, but that is the wireless mic transmitter they gave Mel. He wasnt talking about the new Stiletto he was yelling at the director for their equipment not working. If I remember correctly he was yelling across the room
"Was this conference put together by panero"?
Posted by: NDKFTDIX ? | June 30, 2006 3:40 PM
If Mel was in charge of the conference we would still be waiting for it.
Posted by: History Guy | June 30, 2006 5:01 PM
That's actually Mel's pacemaker - he's had to carry it around with him since signing that gi-normous Stern contract...
;-)
Posted by: Pete ? | June 30, 2006 9:57 PM
Pete you dumb shit, Clayton signed the Stern Contract!
Posted by: P | July 1, 2006 8:51 AM
ROTFLMAO @ TEH PIECE OF UTTER SHIT
Posted by: tom | July 1, 2006 3:20 PM
Mel has nice clean nails. I'll bet you Panero is biting his.
Posted by: Plowboy1 | July 4, 2006 2:28 PM
It's called 'humor', and I don't happen to see a picture of Clayton carrying a suspect device anywhere, do you?
Posted by: Pete ? | July 4, 2006 10:29 PM
rich yur a dumbass
Posted by: boner | August 16, 2006 1:23 PM
Looks like that might just have been the Stiletto after all, albeit in a different color skin.
Too bad, Philmore.
