I've received several reports from folks who are having service interruptions with Sirius.
There's actually an entire thread dedicated to it on Sirius Backstage with reports of issues for various receivers - including some plug-and-play radios and OEM radios - though most seem to be affecting the Sirius S50.
I personally haven't noticed any problems with my own Sirius radios, but I'm curious if anyone else has. According to the SBS thread, the Sirius customer service rep said there are system updates being applied from November 14th to November 16th.
So how has your signal been? Any issues?
[Sirius Backstage]
Thanks Frank!

Sitting here at home, I have 2 bars out of 3, and it keeps going back and forth between Acquiring signal and the actual stream. Usually about every 2 minutes for a couple seconds, not a huge deal if they are doing service upgrades or whatever.
I have a starmate 4 by the way.
I was on my way to work this morning listening to Stern and it kept
breaking up just for a quick second every 5 mins. or so.
I have a stelleto 100 that reported full bars the entire way to my destenation.(Irvine Cal).
Thought that was pretty strange.Glad it wasn't just me!
I had that going on this morning going to work while listening to Stern with a SL100 in a car kit. I thought it was strange because usually it's problem free. Guess something must be up with the sats or the uplink facility.
It wasn't enough to be annoying but it'd happen and made me confused since I was still seeing 3/3 bars on the lower right of my screen.
I had some issues through out the day, only seemed to be on Ch. 100, it would cut in and out every so often. I thought that my antenna was on it's way out. On some of the other channels, i didn't notice any drop outs. I am using a SL100 with a car kit, in the NYC area.
I've had some service interruptions as well. Using a Stiletto 2 in both my car kit and through the Soloist dock, I've had 2 or 3 bars with an "Acquiring Signal" message. Happened today mostly during the 6pm hour but has been fine ever since.
I'm repeater bound... no interruptions in unusual places.
I've noticed that my XM cuts in and out a lot now. Sometimes just dead air will occur for 1-10 seconds followed by some sort of static. It's really annoying.
no problems here in louisiana. no dropouts at all.
I have the same static on my XM. It's happening a lot. I have an ExpressR. Sometimes I think it is a hardware issue although I noticed the I heard the static at the same time on an O&A replay yesterday.
No problems here with XM's signal.
in a slightly-southern subburb of Cleveland, My signal's fine. Checked @ 5:55-6:33 Am w/ a Sportster 3 in a home dock; maybe I'm not getting the upgrade b/c my reciever's old xD. Anyway, usually, i get a repeater signal, and occasionaly a sat signal. 2 bars, maybe 3 bars in the evening. 1-2 bars this morning, as usual.
XM online has been cutting out lately and the radio's (I have a Helix) cuts out with a wierd noise every so often. Nothing to do with the antenna.
No problems with my Sirius, but my XM has been cutting out for 2-10 seconds at a time, with full signal, just no audio being broadcast, about twice an hour. It ends with a series of blips or static, then the audio returns. It's been a real pain, and is on both of my XM units, and through the web. Something is wrong with XM, I hope they don't infect Sirius with it, after the merger!
Anyone think this has something to do with the merger? Seems strange too me..How often do both service mess up at the VERY same time? Maybe they're trying to comply with the FCC post merger? We'll see.
I was in vehicle with my Sirius Kenwood head unit for 400 miles yesterday with no drop outs. I listened to the entire Bubba show, Octane, Coffee House and The Grateful Dead Channel.
Ryan,
I've been having problems for the last two days. I assumed that I needed new antennas since I'm always pulling it out and putting another one back in when I go from my car to my house. I thought it was odd that both of them would be breaking on me at the same time...
Thanks for the notice. I was actually going to buy a new antennae at lunch today.
has anyone checked the solar radiation levels? is there a solar flair hitting the earth? Ya know.. the sort of stuff that effects all satellites?

None at the moment. I think they may be upgrading their software.
I have an S50, and my service kept dropping all day long on the 14th, I called and was told an upgrade may be available today ( the 15th) and they said this was mostly happening with the s50.However, I have to hook up my S50 with my computer to get the upgrade, it is something they cannot download through the satellite. What sucks is Sirius knows who have s50's, why couldn't we get an e-mail from them? What a pain!
I've had no problems, using my Starmate 2 Replay. My wife has an old school Starmate in her car and yesterday at about 6:45 AM it actually stopped and did a full channel update which took about 3 minutes.
Here's a link that could be useful.

From what I can tell. Solar flares are probably not the problem, but I didn't spend much time looking.
I've noticed the same sort of weird little static interruptions, mostly on XM 202, and a couple other channels but it's not enough to really get on my nerves. It lasts for all of about...maybe 4 or 5 seconds and then it comes back, solid as ever. It kinda reminds me of what it might be like if someone tried to jam the signal and play some kind of other audio but at the very last second, xm's stronger signal takes over. Not that I'm suggesting anything like that is happening, it'd take one hell of a strong signal to jam XM's, but when I hear the little blips of static, that's what it reminds me of.
They are testing interoperability and satellite transition in anticipation of the merger

Hey look... September there was intense Solar Flare activity... has it continued?
There was no XM show today for Opie and Anthony because something was wrong "with their master computer."
I wonder if this is all related?
Sirius getting service outtages. XM getting outtages. Solar flares went off a couple months ago. O/A's MASTER COMPUTER is down.
ITS THE END OF THE WORLD PEOPLE!!!!!! RUN FOR YOUR LIVES!!!!!!!!
I live in SE Nevada with a sirius receiver in my home. The antenna can only see the northern satellite as structures block any eastern or southern satellite.
I rarely have dropout. When it does happen I suspect its when Sirius satellites pass off to one another.and only lasts for a mili second.
Well - I did notice that my old Sanyo CRSR-10 did a channel update, which seemed as if it may have taken a bit longer than normal.
But my Visor hasn't done anything out of the ordinary.
And I really haven't had any more dropouts than normal (due to trees, etc. - only about 1/3rd of my town is served by the lone low power Sirius repeater.)
I love how everyone is talking about XM in a SIRIUS info post. Geesus you guys are stupid. I'm drunk, but hell.
S50 SUCKS, I NEED AN UPGRADE
God forbid we all get along for a bit. I just installed and FM direct and thought something was wrong with it as I am getting the several secons of silence then like a click static and it comes back on. With the 'master computer' thing and all I was assuming they were testing some merger sharing audio stuff...
no problem here on Long Island, NY

That radio does not exist. Yeah Right tell me another one.
Only some radios shows they are not all the same.
I DID get a channel update on my old Sirius - Audiovox PNP3 around 6:00 pm last night. I did not notice anything in my Ford factory installed audio entertainment device. ;-)
Mr. Fudge needs to start using the streams
I noticed the update on my home sportster's PDA Wed morning. Both my home and auto sportster have been glitching... dropouts lasting 1-3 seconds... every since. Nothing to do with obstructions.
St Louis, Mo
Getting lots of dropouts. Was going insane. Thank god for Orbitcast.
The only problem I had was blacking out from laughing so hard at Sal and Richards prank phone calls.
i can't get a signal on my s100 when its hooked up to my car dock, however, if i unplug it, it works fine on its own?

just call sirius and tell them its broken and they will send you a stiletto.

I just purchased a Stiletto 2 and I've had some odd issues with it. Not so much from the satellite reception but weird static noise when I'm listening to it.
For instance...if I record a song sometimes it plays perfectly so I know the recording is good. Other times, the song will start out VERY distorted. If I use the scroll wheel to just move to a different song in the list, without actually playing it, the current song will then start to play fine.
Same sometimes with Sirius channels. Say I'm on channel X and it is distorted (not because of the signal) and if I scroll to navigate to channel Y without actually changing to channel Y, channel X that I'm still listening to suddenly comes in perfect.
Anyone else experienced this?
