Now that the numbers are in, we can compare and contrast over one of my favorite metrics - gross subscriber additions.
For the second quarter in a row, Sirius has outpaced XM in the number of quarterly gross subscriber adds. This is pretty significant because historically XM has held the lead in gross subscribers. And gross subscribers are our purest form of tracking marketplace penetration.
As you can see in the chart above, the gap isn't quite as wide in the first quarter of this year as it was with the fourth quarter of 2006, but it's still a decent gap (~120k this quarter).
Sirius also managed to outpace the same period last year. Think about that for a minute. Last year we were in midsts of the Stern Effect, and Sirius still managed to edge out their previous gross additions.
That shows the power of OEM subscribers, regardless of the debate over "car lot subs" or not. As the satellite radio industry continues to shift into a largely OEM driven market, there's a strong growth curve ahead. They just need to make sure they keep that churn in check.

now there is a trend that points to a clear relationship to Nascar move? could they have been the big impact...tho churn did not hit XM as much as i thought it would with this move
Mr. Blutarsky..... Zero Point Zero....

Opie and Anthony, who took over from the unfortunate David Lee Roth on WFNY last March, have doubled Roth's ratings with their target of 18- to 34-year-olds. But so far that's only meant going from 2% to about 4% of the audience, a third of Stern's old numbers.

Do people even post comments about the articles any more? It's real shame.

at this point in time I would tend to stop agreeing with you Ryan, Parkinglot subs or not don't enter in to it. As time goes on XM is adding true paying subscribers via the OEM relationships that are never in a Trial period or counted as a sub during that time.
We currently have a grand total difference between XM and sirius of 123,278 gross subscribers. If Chrysler or Ford has slightly rammped up installs by 50,000 to 60,000 and Hyundai is comming in at 50,000 but will not be counted till next Q. Well, do you begin to see the descrepancy?
We will also need to see the Gross Retail and Gross OEM numbers to get the best picture or where the subs are going and comming from.
Yeah seriously, the joke is wearing thin. At least TRY to stay on topic...

seems to me the joke still serves its purpose...and its my signature from now on :P
PNess: It actually wasn't directed at you specifically (sorry if I came across that way, you actually did contribute to the conversation). Just more in general... after reading the same thing after every post, it wears thin. The same applies for the "hoo hoo I invented XXX" comments. I don't care if arguments ensue (hell, that's half the fun) but we either need to try to stay somewhat on topic, or need to be really really funny.
Oh, and it's: "Fat, drunk and stupid is no way to go through life son." :)
"hoo hoo I invented pissed off forum owners"
sorry the other post did not pop up so i thought it was only my post so far in the thread
:)
Lets face it, oem is going to be the solid way to increase subs. if they merge, were looking at a united market with huge potential and something investors should look at as a safe long term bet. i hope sac decreases, that still worries me. i wonder if there is any way to increase sirius' 6.7 million in advertising gains, of course leaving the music channels out of it.
