Sirius XM iPhone App #1 in free music apps, despite no Stern

Sirius XM iPhone App #1Despite not having Howard Stern in the lineup, the Sirius XM iPhone App still managed to beat out other apps to become the #1 most downloaded free music App.

What's more, it reached that point mid-day today - only 12 hours after its debut.
Sirius XM Top Music App

The Sirius XM iPhone App beat out established music Apps like Pandora, Shazam, Yahoo! Music and Slacker Radio to become the category leader in music Apps. Did I mention it beat out Clear Channel's iheartradio app? Oh right, that's gotta hurt.

But how did the iPhone App fare overall? Funny you should ask.

The Sirius XM iPhone App today was the 6th most downloaded of any free App on Apple's iTunes service. Not too shabby.

Proving there are still newbs and suckers everywhere who are still dumb enough to send Melvin a check for sh*t radio even still.

Once people find out that you can't do the same thing that you can do with pandora or Slacker and they hear those dj's talking over the music it will not be #1 long . I'm guessing most were free trials ? And no Stern Ut oh.

OK, so there is a FREE download and a FREE 7 day trial, but after that, existing customers must pay an additional $3 per month and new customers, the customers that may likely only listen to SiriusXM on their iPhone, pay $13 per month! That is a lot, considering that the app doesn't use the SiriusXM satellite network and is competing against other iPhone apps that stream music for free. The conversion rate from free trial to $13 per month subscriptions is going to be interesting to follow...

See we always win in the end! It's number #1 because of o n a

We're the best!

You should probably read this: http://www.insidemusicmedia.blogspot.com/

I'm sure they did an email blast to all their customers about this, which drove a lot of sudden traffic. Let's see how it's doing 2-3 weeks from now. Most apps shoot up high when they're new, and then trail off to settle into a position.

Actually It Has Always Been Like This(12.95/Mo)If You Only Have Sirius Online, It Makes No Difference To Them If You Use It On Your IPhone/IPod(Touch)Or Just On A PC, That's Why They Charge The Same Fee...

If "newbies" like the free trial, and decide to continue the subscription, why wouldn't they also get a radio or other device to listen to the service other ways???

"The conversion rate" is going to equal the massive, mind blowing CHURN rate away from siriusxm by subscribers.

"newbs and suckers" are the only subscribers left at siriusxm, everyone else is smart enough to have learned paying for radio is for "newbs and suckers" and this free iPhone app is just a waste of space and bandwidth.

FU Melvin

The attacks on SiriusXM are so childish.

Face it, you lost money and you really don't like Howard.

The bottom line - top music app, now get lost!!!

#1 in downloads because people downloaded it before they found out Howard wasn't available.

Did you see the stock price? Look at yesterday's upswing right before the app release, then the nose dive this morning when they found out no Howard Stern.

It's pretty clear that the only thing O&A can attract are flies. They couldn't even last on TR after Howard left.

partys on on q3 numbers
this app rocks in my car listening to mlb radio then switching to the virus
SWEET

Well the truth i dont understan how people would pay for radio, but whatever. now i heard the app is horrible, is that true??
also it doesnt make sense, sirius radio without Howard Stern. WTF

Lifetime subscribers get screwed.

You paid $500 for lifetime service of SiriusXM.

And now, if you want (some) channels on your iPhone, you have to pay AGAIN. Despite being told that your one-time fee "covered everything."

suck artie's d$ck, B$tch! No talant Opie

Opie you are the least talanted person on the show. Maybe Artie Lang can give you a few pointers! He's a great guy, maybe he'll do a charity for you...

That's exactly how I felt, screwed! I thought maybe since I had a lifetime sub with Sirius that I might not have to pay but then when I downloaded it, it said basic service restricted. Needless to say I sent SiriusXM an email, let's see what they say. Then after that I decided to just pay the $10 for pockettunes. I gave $500 to Sirius when I liked them, I'm not giving more money to a company I'm starting to hate...

I DL'ed it then it told me to put in my XM/Sirius online account info...

I Deleted it.

Pandora still wins in my book.

Honestly, Sirius NFL radio is worth $13/month for any true NFL fan with an iPhone!

I can't think of a better time to begin the separation with Stern!

Doesn't work with first generation Itouch.

Ok it was number #1 I will admit to it. But did you also see that most people rated it a 1 star! Everyone complained that there was no Stern and therefore were upset. Also some didn't like the pricing for this app. Thank you Mel for running a Mickey Mouse operation over there in Sirius XM Land. Geez I just want it to get back to the level so I can get my money out of this stock. This company is a disaster and has a major PR problem.

That's because people are checking for themselves to see if Stern is really missing. Seeing is believing

i suggest you drunk drive into a brick wall if you thought artie lange was funny on joe buck live

So many bitter people!

Why waste your talent here, you should be motivational speakers at High School.

You guys need to get a life and move on, I love the app and Howard Stern will be available when they work out the details.

He will have a new contract with this deal.

How much do people pay for coffee every day 4,00.

Three dollars extra a month for 120 stations, the channels will grow over time!

Lets make some money Sirius!

This will be the death of terr. radio, pandora, slacker.

Once they have to pay royalties, like Sirius already does; they will have to charge for listening to their service too.

Enjoy while you can!

Could not agree more...I got the lifetime when they were going to start charging for online listening, not they get you if you want to listen on this app. I assumed, (my bad, screwed by XM again) that my lifetime would have included this.

You do not know until after you download. So I dont care how many times it is downloaded, I would be curious how many times it gets downloaded, but never used.

Of course "Lifetime subscribers" will get screwed, you guys made a bad bet on SiriusXM. Siriusxm will not make it much longer much less a "lifetime"

RMAN,

You have ALOT to learn. Instead of posting your hopes and dreams which will never come true, you should listen to others and learn. It's obvious your one of Melvin's blind, ignorant, newbs and suckers.

siriusxm is just about over, neither company has made a dime. Melvin is driving the whole mess further and further into debt each and every day. Howard is ready to drop the siriusxm crutch and is on his way back to FM radio soon. Internet radio and FM/HD Radio is the future. The fad known as satellite radio is well on it's way to the last of it's 15 minutes.

Only a newb and sucker would try to reason that paying for radio is a smart idea.

Listen, Learn, Grow Up.

And I suggest you take your head out of your rectum.

He certainly did what he was supposed to which was garner attention to a show that was a snooze fest. Without his appearance, no one would be talking about that show.

Unlike what the tranny power twins when they were on Fallon's show. Notice how no one is talking about their appearance, yet Artie's appearance has been talked about for several days? Take the blinders off donk!

Hey dumbass, Pandora and Slacker already do pay royalties. This will certainly not be the death of either service. Hell both of those are available on more than one fucking device, and the Slacker app even queues content on your Blackberry so that when your not in the best coverage, it can just use preloaded content.

Slacker is the best positioned to win this fight. Pandora has said for a while they are losing their asses and close to pulling the plug on the whole deal. SiriusXM is in the shitter and churn is going to be FAR higher with all these additional fees and charges. Bankruptcy has been a looming issue since the merger, and promises made by Mel Karmazin are not being kept (where's the rate freezes and the ala carte content asshole) Slacker is free with ads, or about $30/year! for the full access version. The only reason I keep XM is for O&A, and if these price increases continue, I will just torrent the shows and sell my Inno. The music channels have already gone to absolute shit on XM.

Slacker has been paying these fee's for a long time dummy .

I don't pay $4 for coffee everyday, neither do most people and the ones that do aren't giving it up so they can pay for satellite radio.

I'm now paying $360/year, up 50% from a year ago, for a service I rarely use anymore by a company I have nothing good to say about. This app is just another way to raise rates without really saying they're raising rates. XM used to give their customers a premium online stream for free.

Howard returns to FM in 2012, Sirius collapses like the house of cards that it is and hopefully I'll be able to subscribe to O&A, the only reason left to have a sub, via podcast. Why do you think Ant's built a broadcasting studio in his home that takes live phones?

The music channels? Terrible. I can't even record single songs anymore because either the fucking Sirius DJ's talk over the song or they play a fucking phone caller talking over the beginning. Terrible management. Terrible service. Terrible product. And to think I used to be an SDARS fanboy.

You're right,

What can I say????

"Opie you are the least talanted person on the show. Maybe Artie Lang can give you a few pointers! He's a great guy, maybe he'll do a charity for you..."

Really? Artie Lange is a great guy? That's a stretch. He's and obese, self destructive junkie. Not really someone that I think most would refer to as a "great guy".

I dont know whats worse. The people that post on this blog or ALL THE AD'S!

It was number one because it was new, and free. Shocking.

Right now a game called "Paper Toss" is the top free app. You throw paper into a basket. That doenst have Howard either.

I love all the Stern fans commenting on iTunes. It's Howard's $$$$ choice. Not Sirius/XM's. But bash them anyway because they suck too.

Sheep, the lot of you.

Artie's appearance has been talked about for several days????? oh its been talked about all right, he was bashed by every media outlet and HBO banned him for life, if artie was that big and powerful as the messiah claims, dont you think HBO would of overlooked what he said and gave him another chance? even joe buck made him look stupid, and joe buck is obviously no comedian....and doesnt artie lay down during the entire stern show, and only talks when the stern staff buys him cupcakes out the vending machine, ?.... that goes to show how stern is declining in numbers and zombies like you hate to admit the truth!

Why are you wasting your time here?

Could it be you work for the Hedge funds shorting the stock!

Maybe you an investor would bought at 7.00.

My average is below a dollar and will make six figures before I sell my shares!

Grow up, you have a SIRIUS problem; let go of your anger.

It will only burn you up inside and make you less of a person.

Move on and enjoy life again!

You really are a smart one, you can't figure out how to put your name on the post.

It is called business, everything goes up in time!

Sirius did not raise their prices for six years.

How much do you pay for cell phone or internet or cable?

Coffee was a example moron!

Again, I hope Sirius gets rid of Mel and soon. The stock price is still pretty low. Sirius has not advertise this new app pretty effectively similiar to the backseat TV.

SiriusXM aren't allowed to raise prices, that was the condition of the merger.

Business don't raise prices 50% in a recession. They don't raise rates 50% ever and remain in business.

How much are they going to raise them when the government allows it?

Usually when something goes up in price you get something for it. It this case, less choice, no internet, worse service across the board and the elimination of many popular channels. And an app that leaves you without your highest paid show.

I know coffee was an example. It was a good one. It applies to most anything. No one is giving up their vice for an SDARS subscription, they'd rather have their coffee or whatever it is they waste money on.

Sirius and XM charged 9.99 a month pre 2004, then they raised it to 12.99!

What are you talking about 50%, if people are unhappy they will cancel; if not then I guess they priced it right.

You want the extra's it will cost you, they don't have mobile rights to Howard Stern, NFL, MLB. Your pissed about what your paying now right, it will cost them to put this on the I phone.

The only thing Sirius was not allowed to do was increase their base price 12.99 a month and offer ala-cart

The government allowed them to pass thru the royalties after one year of the merger (1.98 for standard sub and .97 for ala-cart sub per month).

Who in their right mind would pay $12.95 per month (more than 1/3 of the iphone plan) for this crap? I love O&A and would pay $2.99 per month to have the ability to listen to them via my iphone. I am not a current XM/Siruis customer and $12.95 per month guarantees that I will not be one in the future.

If my stock was trading for thirty-four cents...I would offer an iphone $2.99 per month plan...arseholes are going to go under!!

the government? The same one that cut taxes in times of war. the first time ever?

to quote cartman "they do what they want"

And yet they are #1 free music app and #2 overall free app!

Someone could send me the Sirius App.

I could log in to US store from Spain :(((

Please...

This article/blog is crap. It is the most downloaded, but it is also the lowest rated (2stars) and probably the most deleted. As soon as i found out that i had to upgrade, and STILL not have howard stern? I went back to my pandora radio, thanks.
