Sirius XM merged channel lineup revealed in USA Today - Orbitcast
Sirius XM lineup in USA Today
The combined Sirius XM Radio Inc. channel lineup, scheduled to go live this Wednesday, was officially made public in a full-page spread in Friday's USA Today.

A scan of the USA Today full-page ad was uploaded by maxoct97 to XM Fan. I've color-corrected it and stitched it together into a single image (click on the image above to view the full-size version).

The rock stations are very slim. I dont see either one of the 90's rock stations made the cut. I also was hoping the XM station which I dont know the name of it that broadcasts the
bob dylan show and their specials would be available. I guess we shall see.

When will the tell us whats going on??? This is crazy!

Post-merger channel lineups were submitted to the FCC and customers, and released just over three months ago. But now the company sees fit to take out what has to be an expensive ad in USA Today to provide cryptic information that really makes no sense unless you make assumptions based on what's there and not there, and infer that this means certain channels are disappearing.

This is the equivalent of giving customers the finger -- and trying to pass it off as some sort of a benefit.

Ryan,

I am a little confused as to this upcoming new line-up. Does this mean that regardless of which company you subscribe to, the channel line-up will be the same across the board?
--meaning that you will receive the same channels on both receivers?

If anyone knows please let me know-I am unsure if the number of channels will decrease or not?

Well I am so relieved (and happy) that First Wave survived. I guess the Punk Channel is doomed. I hope the Roadhouse shows up on the final list. I am thrilled that the 40s of 4 is coming to Sirius. It is the one station I truly missed when I switched from XM. XM has a better Standards station so I am surprised that Siriusly Sinatra survived. I also wonder how much Sirius has to pay the family of Frank Sinatra to use the name.

AC/DC and Zep Radio is listed even though they are only considered temporary station. As I have said in the past (and suggested to Sirius), they should set two or three dedicated stations that the use for single artists and then rotate them.

Ok, So no the System, 90s on 9, Lucy? Why am I paying for this service again?

Trying not to panic (yet), but WOW, there are a lot of gaping holes in the options.

No Squizz, No Octane, No 90s on 9, No Alternative music (equivalent of Lucy & Ethel), and No Ron & Fez?!?!?

Seems to be a LOT still lacking.

Jesus, all anyone does anymore is complain! I have Sirius and so far my service is completely unchanged. I'm satisfied now as I was a year ago.

Ever think that Sirius XM needs BADLY to advertise for the forthcoming (really really tough) holiday season and hasn't made every lineup decision yet?

But no, every time they so much as sneeze it's a PERSONAL AFFRONT to their subscribers and Mel INTENTIONALLY SCREWING OVER their shareholders. WTF.

Grow the hell up. It's tough out now and they're doing what they can to stay alive. Sure, lots of mistakes were (and still are) being made, but the "advice" I see here is often ridiculous armchair quarterbacking that has zero grounding in reality.

Nevermind....just saw Alt Nation & Faction listed there.

Another thing.....does having AC/DC Radio listed on here imply that the channel is no longer going to be in the temporary channels, and it will be permanent?

(I wouldn't mind that all, personally).

Looks great and thanks for the info Ryan but this is only combined service right?, what about most of us who are subs to one service? I guess we have to wait and see.

I don't see BBC Radio One listed. I hope it survives. Giles Peterson on Wednesdays is the best.

Ummm. Where's the BBC, CBC and World Radio Network? Where are the Spanish, Korean and Indian channels?

Hopefully, this is not a complete representation of what we'll be hearing come November 12.

Its Great that someone who sees a news ad has to inform the public and sat fans about the lineup--I guess what im really saying is Sirius/XM PR really sucks or maybe they cut that out entirely to save costs--

seems to be light on country and jazz from the description you provided.

Where is Ethel? How could they leave that out?

Just got off the phone with XM. I was surprised to see that there was nothing in the XM Signal email today although they advertised in USA Today.

I mentioned this and expressed my anger that USA Today readers (I am not one) could know this stuff before subscribers. I was told that "they were about to send something out" and that they would ensure that I got something.

I also voiced my displeasure concerning their dropping XCountry in favor of Outlaw Country - an obviously inferior channel.

On the plus side, I do see some interesting new channels plus a chance to hear some old NYC DJ's if they bring them over for Decades channels and some other channels.

I don't know if this will be enough to keep me subscribed. I am already on a special rate that expires in March. I am not encouraged if Sirius music channels continue to have their much shorter playlists.

It's unfortunate that apparently neither of the classic hip-hop channels have survived, but I'm really happy that Underground Garage will be coming to XM.

Boy, this isn't looking too good...You're not kidding that there are some wholes...In a past post, it was mentioned that The Boneyard and Squizz would be kept; I see no mention of them here unless I've missed them. No current country "hits" channel. Unless this is just what is being combined, and Boneyard, Squizz, and some other things are part of what XM is keeping to itself.

Yuck...Hair Nation? Sucks compared to Boneyard or even Buzzsaw. The DJs are awful, the playlists are too narrow...My iPod is programmed better.

Looks like it might be time to drop at least one of my three radios; not sure O&A and football are worth three radios if this is what Sirius/XM will be offering for music. We'll see how it sounds Wednesday morning.

Any idea what this will do to the offerings on Dish and DirectTV for those who listen to Sirius on Dish and XM on DirecTV as far as what those people will get?

is this the ENTIRE line-up? the word "including" leads me to believe its not...if it is, i will be seriously depressed come wednesday...i dont see any of my pre-set stations from either of my radios on this list...i surely hope this list is not all-inclusive

Sam

Love seeing "The Joint" next to "Christian".

You'd think we could get rid of the religious crap on a radio that carries Stern, et al. Leave the God Squad behind. Let them get their music via Time Life, and leave the bandwidth for actual talent.

I have no opinion until the dust settles but thank god Lucy, Ethel and Fred are changing their names. As for Flight 26 I hope they program it the same because that is a channel my wife and I agree on in her car.

While I like the fact they are keeping the XM decades channels, there are some obvious takeaways, or absent channels:

Fred, XCountry, Audiovisions, Lucy, Fine Tuning, 90's, Sirius Blues, and any kind of old school rap/soul channel.

I find the replacements to be inferior.

Sadly, it looks like some choice is taken away.

Droppong Deep Tracks is a mistake. I hope the Classic Vinyl station is a suitable replacement.

The Virus is changing to The Opie and Anthony Show? What does that mean for Ron and Fez? Hopefully, they are still included on that channel.

what about XM cafe, The Loft and Audio Visions?

All I have to say is this. If Squizz is gone I am gone. I am not going to sit and listen to the rock channels from Sirius when they go nowhere as deep in the playlists as Squizz not to mention the DJ's are second to none. They better announce Squizz is staying or I am canceling.

everyone relax this is only 40 of the 69 channels there will be more. If you notice on the ad it says 69 commercial free music channels, including...... word up

Ron and Fez noon to three 202, 197

This isn't exactly correct, because the Pulse isn't listed either, so I guess will wait and see.

Fred, Lucy and Ethel are NOT LEAVING they are getting RENAMED. And thank goodness for that. Their channel names make no sense. I am not saying sirius' are any better but why is curtain alternative music on a station named after a 50's TV sitcom?

I'm glad Lithium is staying. I was hoping to get Ethel back since I lost it when I got a new car and had to switch to Sirius.

This all doesn't matter that much to me. I listen to about twenty stations consistantly. I am sure I will find something I like.

No, they are leaving. They are being REPLACED by Faction, Alt Nation, etc. I for one will deeply miss Lucy's "attitiude" in all the station IDs.

Screw you, Mel. Screw. You.

At this point, it's going to take a miracle of magically improved programming once the Sirius channels take over XM to keep me subscribed.

I've got an iPod Touch, and I'm not afraid to use it, Karmazin.

To anyone who wants to defend this, such as Anonymous, I'd suggest doing a little research before posting messages. Of course your service is unchanged - it's not changing until 11/12, or at least that's what's rumored. And, no, I have never thought a company would place an ad like that before making "final decisions," but if they would, then I'd suggest that's a big part of the problem. Finally, I see little or no "armchair quarterbacking." What I do see are people who don't like being lied to. I don't care how they run their business; I want what I'm paying for -- the programming I was told via channel lineups I would get.

What a shithole lineup. I'm an XM Sub and have loved all the channels in the 20's. 60's. 80's and 202. I truly hope it turns out for the better but from what its looking like I will be canceling my XM sub of 4 years and (cringe) looking into HD radio...

Well, all I've got to say is that if boardroom Jimmy was the one that made these cuts I'm canceling!

CANCEL CANCEL CANCEL!

In all seriousness, I've never heard the Sirius music channels, so I'll give it a shot. To be honest, I'm on board for O&A, so if they stay, I stay.

Oh, and Ron & Fez Noon to three!

I haven't received any formal communications from XM. Will I really wake up on November 12th and my entire lineup will be different without a heads up?

I Don't see what happened to Maxim108 and Playboy? why do they need to keep the clear channel channels?

Sorry I misunderstood what Tony wrote/posted when it states "* - merged/adjusted"

But does it really matter. Let's wait until we listen. No matter how badly you THINK it is going to be you will not know until Wednesday.

Not only am I upset about losing Ethel, Lucy, Squizz, Fred & Big Tracks, but I also see some missing formats altogether. Am I just not seeing it, or are there no classic hip-hop channels along the lines of Sirius Backspin or XM The Rhyme?

Thanks for posting this...Boy, I don't like the replacement of some of these channels. America with the Roadhouse? Boneyard leaving until January? Anyone know what this does to Eddie Trunk's show after today? Or Eddie Stubs on America?
This could get interesting over the next few days.

I'm so close to ditching the service now. They basically ditched all of XM's rock stations and replaced them with Sirius's. I understand there are a lot of similar channels, but nothing's 100% equivalent. I'm so pissed they're getting rid of Lucy.

Jeremy,

I agree with you. The rumors I saw had the naming changing to Octane with Bodhi being the head of programming, but Grant not listed. I hold out very little hope for my subscription(s). Maybe I should cancel my prepaid service for a prorated refund anyway before they lose subscribers this quarter and file for bankruptcy, lol.

ReachMD is moving to Channel 160 on Wednesday, 11/12. Said so in my ReachMD email...
I take the omission of any reference to that channel as meaning that there are still a lot of unknowns, and that any conclusions about channel changes are premature unless SiriusXM makes a statement.

Guys, the ad is only a portion of the lineup. Bitch and moan when come the 12th all your favorite channels are gone. But I just have 1 question: Why on a Wednesday?

No AudioVisions! I can't sleep without AudioVisions.

I see Chrome is gone . I wonder if they will put the Strobe , Sirius Channel 37 , on XM , or if it will stay Sirius only ? I can't imagine they would get rid of both disco channels .

Also, that chart is slightly wrong -- Shade, Faction, Jam_On and Underground Garage are not new channels, they've been on Sirius for a long time.

If the names are current Sirius stations, the XM station IS NOT being renamed - it is being replaced. Big difference.

An example is XCountry. It is not being renamed to Outlaw Country - it is being replaced by the Sirius channel.

The lineup is here as well with a different image from USA Today:
http://stockmarketsundays.com/content/new-xm-merged-lineup

No BBC. Three subscriptions canceled.

I think the *'d ones are saying the same format (roughly) will be on the same channel, whereas the +'s will be a new format on that channel.

It's my understanding that the Sirius rock channels are not of the same quality/caliber of some of the XM ones. Ethel and Lucy are pretty much the two mainstays on my radio and I'll be quite unhappy if they end up being replaced by substandard Sirius equivalents that use a more FM-standard of programming with narrower playlists and the like.

Also, how about getting Left of Center on XM? I'd like it just to get to hear Liquid Todd on my radio for the first time in five years since they unceremoniously canceled Solid State on the air in NYC.

Ryan,

You were a consistently pro-merger voice in your posts here, but I always felt like your support of the merger came primarily due to your dislike of the FCC and NAB, and not actually from what you thought of Sirius, XM, and their respective subscribers. I always thought that if you took strictly the subscribers' perspective, your voice and opinion would be a lot different. That it would sound a lot like this:

http://www.orbitcast.com/archives/you-know-what-scares-me-the-most-about-the-xmsirius-merger.html

That post was the best you made during the whole merger mess, and it expressed perfectly the fears I had about the merger. The difference between me and you is that sentiment was enough for me to oppose the merger, but it was not enough for you to oppose it.

Now, when the channel changes hit XM (and possibly Sirius, though there have been far fewer leaks and speculation on the Sirius side) subscribers without warning from Sirius XM on Wednesday, I really, really would like to see you reassess the merger with the starting point that you used in the above linked post. Honestly, I'm not trying to be an ass or make you eat crow in asking for you to do this. But, if the rumors are true, it appears that many, if not all, of the things you feared in that post have come to pass. Maybe you still support the merger, all things considered. But if that post reflected your true sentiment, then I can't see how you don't have an opinion on what is happening to satellite radio.

Where I will be a bit of an ass, however, is in noting that your open and rather bitter mockery of forecasts noting the risk of SIRI at

http://www.orbitcast.com/archives/siri-investor-baiting-clusterstock-247-wall-st-could-do-better.html

doesn't look so good in hindsight.

I'm trying to assess whether maintaining both XM and Sirius subscriptions continues to make sense. Doesn't look good... WAY too many duplications.

Daddy Not Happy...

If i wanted mostly Sirius' music channels, I would've signed up for Sirius. looks like the ipod touch i am getting for christmas will be getting a lot of play in my car.

and those dissapointed that Lucy is gone, that is one of my favorite channels as well, but the playlist has become a lot more shallow in the past year than I remember it being when I got XM. The Siriusization of XM has begun.

I just sent an email to Sirius earlier today when I saw the channel lineup and I was expecting some kind of bull response like how the channels need to merge because of the redundancies, but I got something different. The sent me back saying "Thank you for your email regarding our channel lineup. We are here to
assist!
At this time however , we have no knowledge about our channel line up.
We do apologize. Keep watching our website for future updates." WTF?!?!

I think it would be a grave mistake to cut any of the highly unique channels like Sirius Disorder, which is not shown in the ad. The programmers have some hard decisions on their hands when deciding what to keep and what to cut, but I think they would be doing better to cut some of the mainstream channels, so they can keep more of the unique ones.

The highly unique channels may not get the largest audiences when you look at them by themselves, but they do have the most loyal listeners because people can’t find their content anywhere else. People who just want to listen to top 40 stuff are probably quite happy listening to terrestrial radio.

One hour until conference call .... who wants to bet that nothing will be mentioned?

Will they change channels on the Sirius side, too?

And if so, will my presets automagically lock on to the new channels like they did when they switched area 33 to 38 etc etc?

All this anger needs to be contained.

You can rest assured that subscribers to BOTH SERVICES will continue to receive the great service they have always enjoyed, and this merger guarantees you MORE CHOICE.

I know this because both Karmazin and Parsons said it, over and over and over again.

The service is getting better. You're feeling drowsy.

>>> I'm trying to assess whether maintaining both XM and Sirius subscriptions continues to make sense.

Yeah. Just think about the "assessment" of how much sense it makes to build a dual-capable receiver.

WTF!!! no Squizz or Octane?(ok Squizz sounds stupid anyway, but no hard alternative!, and I bet they raise sub fees too, thank God for i pods!

They are going to run this company right into the ground! Who will go out of business first SIRIUSXM or GM?(Que taps) RIP a once great company.

Presets automatically changing? Are you serious?! I think you'd better give yourself a few extra minutes before you leave the house on Wednesday morning...

Just so you know the battery life on the ipod touch doesn't last. Wait til you've owned it about 3-4 months.

This is obviously not a complete list. For instance, no traffic/weather channels are listed, but their channel numbers have not been replaced by anything.

The BBC, and other foreign channels I hope will remain, as someone noted above.

As for the music: what I've heard of Sirius is enough to know that it's mostly a poor replacement for XM's channels. It was a cost-effective, flip-the-switch maneuver, that primarily puts all the channels and their programmers/DJs in New York, where the consultants and beancounters can keep an eye on them.

Very sad.

So true. I love that device and would probably buy one if I no alternative like sat radio. Programming it would really piss me off but terrestrial and HD suck.

As for the Touch that I have, like I said it is great but I got mine for free.

Oh PLEASE! Read the heading on the USA Today advertisement.

69 Commercial Free Music Channels.

69.

Do you see 69 channels listed on that ad?

No.

About sixty posts and NOONE pointed this out.

LOL

To those of you who say, don't panic, listen first, I say point well taken, I'm going to do that. But from what I see here, it does not look good for XM subscribers. This is like McDonald's changing overnight from Big Macs to fish sticks and not expecting anyone to notice, much less complain.

But cheer up -- just think how much better it will be when you can get "a la carte." Then you can pick all your favorite channels from both services, since there are so many of them left -- and so many differences between Sirius and XM, too.

I agree 100% with this. Disorder is like College Radio as it was in the 60s through the 80s. They play whatever strikes their fancy and expose you to new music or older stuff that you may have missed the first time around. I am not familiar with XM so perhaps they have a station here that is a merge. I hope so. It's not a deal breaker but I would be sad to see it go.

No Scott Ferrell?

DING DING DING
XM LINEUP CONFIRMED BY THE *** HIMSELF
"The elimination of duplicate programming"
"Even more desireable channels"
"Even better content programming"
RRRAMONE! THIS *** SPEWS SHIT!

The article doesn't say which news/talk channels survived the post merger other than America Right and America Left. What about Extreme XM (xm 152),America's Talk (xm 158),Talk Radio (xm 165), Fox News Talk (xm 168)sirius patriot (144), sirius left (146)?

wow--numbers for 3rd quarter were very good--Beat street and going forward they have many compnaies doing due diligence to make investments into Sirius/xm interesting..

This merger BLOWS... Do I lose ALL THREE of my favorite Sirius rock channels? IN THIS ORDER...

1-Lithium
2-Octane
3-Buzzsaw

Or..... are they still working on a combination from Sirius and XM that had similar channels (like my favorites) and give them a new name??? If this gets too radically different, one or two units will go.

The AC/DC, Bruce, and Zeppelin channels should be out on their own group of dedicated channels. My wife is ready to cancel if the Bridge does not come back soon... I kinda dig the Zep though.

All I can say is that Audiovisions (not mentioned??!?) and Cinemagic (looks safe) are really popular on my 4 radios. Audiovisions is actually the only station that EVERYONE in my home can keep on without channel surfing after a while (Even Lucy has to change sometime). Sirius XM needs to preserve the niche channels because we listeners are more than just customers, we're FANS. Are you listening, Mel?

XCountry and Beyond Jazz. You will be EXTREMELY missed.

Fuck Sirius.

remember how back in the day on clubxm and xm fan we all joked how one day the sirius channels would take over xms ?

I see that "Fine Tuning" is getting the axe also. For several years now, I've enjoyed listening to Ben play fantastic music from genres that NEVER get any exposure anywhere else! If Mel thinks gutting all these channels is a good idea, boy is he in for a shock! I can't believe he's going to ruin SATRAD by destroying the main reasons people bought their radios for in the first place: lots of musical variety/genres and DEEP play lists. Of course I'm sure he already has one hand on the rip cord of his golden parachute!!!
PS: Stern and Opie and Anthony ARE NOT going to keep this sinking ship afloat!

I agree with you on Lucy and Big Tracks. Big Tracks was some of the best Rock of the Mid 70's to the late 80's. There is not station like this anywhere, and they get rid of it. I just don't get it. I can tell you one thing, if this is the lineup, I'm gone.

No fucking Backspin 43?

Just another reason to drop my subs come the New year.

No more Fine Tuning? What can they possibly be thinking? IMO they must be trying to destroy the company.

Greyfurgang: XM's deep, eclectic music channel is called "Fine Tuning", and it's excellent. However it's very different from Sirius Disorder, and it's a moot point anyway since it's apparently going to be cut as well.

Deep Tracks (same concept as The Vault, but it's actually deep) and XMU (college/indie) should provide a lot of what you'd hear on Disorder, provided that Sirius doesn't screw up the programming even more than they already have.

R.I.P Fred :(

How about cutting Stern ? That would save alot of money .

Maybe along with "elimination of duplicate programming," they're going to get "elimination of duplicate subscribers." If you take away a lot of what more than half of your customers signed up to get, apparently you are not that interested in keeping them around.

Sure, not all of them will cancel, and I'm certain in the corporate offices somewhere there's an estimate of how many people will cancel over this, with the numbers all worked out that if we save X number of dollars here and lose X number here, they still come out ahead. I'm hoping their estimate winds up being wrong so some of this is re-thought. I'll probably be doing my part. The only thing that will get me to stay is if X Country and Outlaw are truly integrated, but I'm not hopeful about that.

FWIW, in response to a few other comments, AudioVisions I have read elsewhere is supposed to be replaced with a channel called Spa. I have no idea how similar it will or won't be to AudioVisions.

I didn't want to LUCY, but I guess Lithium is the replacement(?)

As well, I'm happy that The Boneyard seems to revived in January.

But overall, how does this lineup affect the Canadian feeds? I mean, XM Canada has already said that they would be not affected by the merger, but these channel changes has to affect us as well.

Anybody have any insight on this?

So lucy is gone in favor of lithium or alt nation. Now if the lucy programming comes over and just the name changed than what have your really lost.

NOTHING except a stupid name. Again wait until Wednesday your fears might be true or gasp totally wrong. But people only like to complain so if not this than it will be something else.

Not too happy about this.
