Sirius & XM to take part in Live Earth?
Al Gore today unveiled a 24-hour concert series "Live Earth" which will debut on all 7 continents, in an effort to bring awareness to none other than: the dangers of global warming.
The concert, which is set for 07/07, is expected to reach an audience of 2 billion through concert attendance and broadcasts.
"Live Earth" is part of the Save Our Selves (SOS) campaign which was founded by Kevin Wall, who won an Emmy as Worldwide Executive Producer of Live 8.
Live Earth will feature performances from 100+ artists including: Pharrell, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Foo Fighters, Snoop Dogg, Lenny Kravitz, Bon Jovi, Paolo Nutini, Sheryl Crow, AFI, Melissa Etheridge, John Mayer, Damien Rice, Corrine Bailey Rae, Duran Duran, Snow Patrol, John Legend, Black Eyed Peas, Akon, Enrique Iglesias, Fall Out Boy, Mana, Keane, Kelly Clarkson, Korn, Faith Hill w/ Tim McGraw, Ray LaMontagne, Robin Thicke and Kenna.
So where does Sirius and XM come in? Well, according to the press release, both Sirius and XM are partnered with SOS, along with NBC-Universal and its networks, and the BBC in the UK. Details on what exactly is Sirius' or XM's involvement is unknown at this time.
More info on this as it comes in...

I wonder how many private jets will be used to transport these "stars" to an event where they tell you not to produce CO2?

Global Warming Concert??? The Hudson River has been frozen over for about a month now. Silly Hippies

I find this very silly, especially in Al Gore's part. I believe global warming but a concert? First it was the $25M bounty on whomever can come up with the best idea to stop global warming, now they're doing concerts in order to "spread the word" of global warming? Al Gore may be smart on making a documentary about global warming, but I think he's pushing it a little too far.

All i really care about is the music. I dont care if its a good idea to have a concert series for global warming, but after the XM live 8 coverage, I am looking forward to this as well.
With live 8 I only had an Airware to record to. Now with my inno, I should be able to record a whole lot more. Not that it would matter since transferring it to my computer is wrong.

So let me get this straight. The holes in the ozone layer will be completely gone by 2020 and every 500 years the earth goes through a natural warming period. As it so happens the 500th year is soon approaching us and then the earth will naturally cool again.
Did I forget to mention that the ozone layer hole will close up? :)
As most news stories what ever is the hot topic over powers the other. Why only this past year a major news paper published the top ten countries that import oil to the US. The middle east countries where not even mentioned until spot number 7. Canada is the largest oil exporter to the US but only weeks later they publish another story that we need to rid our dependence on middle east oil.
So back to Al Gore... Good news for the concert but the News Media will find something else soon.

PNess, are you saying that global warming isn't real and Al Gore is a dick?
Posted by: Brian ? | February 16, 2007 9:28 AM
Brian, I can't speak for PNess but we seem to be in the natural warming period right now (They used to grow grapes in England you know, way before anyone had SUV's). And yes, Al Gore IS a dick.
BTW, how much CO2 was made making all those DVD cases?
Posted by: History Guy ? | February 16, 2007 9:58 AM
While its true that the Earth goes through natural warming periods every so many years, its usually a gradual warming as opposed to sudden as is happening now. There is more CO2 in the atmosphere now than there has been in hundreds of thousands of years, and it is an accepted fact among scientists (not you) that global warming is real, and exists.
Why do people get angry over this topic? Is it because it interferes with your wasteful consuming lifestyle? Instead of walking a little more and losing a few lbs you would rather drive and it makes you angry that people tell you not to? Or instead of replacing incandescent light bulbs with compact fluorescents and actually saving money in the long run as well as CO2 emissions, you would rather stick to the old way because that is what you are used to?
Believe it or not, most of the changes you can make to help prevent this fake global warming scare, actually benefit YOU as well. Wow, imagine that.
p.s. just for the record History Guy, the "DVD cases" are 100% recycled materials that is also 100% biodegradable. Too bad the movie inside blew.

"PNess, are you saying that global warming isn't real and Al Gore is a dick?"
AlGore has become a real dick...
It might be real, but there is 20 "real" problems in front of this one that hundreds of millions of dollars should be spent on first.
- Starving children
- Aids
- No healthcare
- homeless
- poverty
ect...ect...

MarkS you call 1 degree in the past 100years sudden?
I did forget to mention that most people (except those that have seen the documentary on HBO) have forgotten about the Tsunami. When it happened it was reported that the axis of the earth shifted and that the effects permanently changed the earths climate.
Posted by: another thought | February 16, 2007 6:42 PM
First off, 1 degree rise in 100 can be considered sudden when looking at the total timeline. Also, that 1 degree is the average temperature change. Some places are cooler than 100 years ago, but that is not where the problem is. Parts of the arctic are 4, 5 or even 6 degrees (f) higher than 100 years ago.
My whole argument is that there are a lot of things that a person can do to limit CO2 emissions that even if they dont make a difference in the environment, they will make a difference in your own personal life. So why not do them and if they save the earth, good.
With your whole tsunami argument, many people suggested it was due to global warming, but it was not. The strength of the quake that caused it was enough to get the earth to wobble on its axis 1 inch. Wobble, not shift.

Manbearpig is still on the loose!

You know it is funny that you are telling people on this site what they can and should do to save the earth but how many of us have you actually met?
Let me ask you when you are driving your car or if you don't I am sure you have gotten rides from friends on occasion what do you do on a summer day or not. Are you an air condition user? How about in your home/apartment? Funny you never met me but yet I do not use air conditioning in my car or home unless it is absolutely need it for health/safety. I am sure that is a good thing to do on my part. As soon as we get more biodiesel stations in my area I would use them more also.
I like your generalizations of everyone on this board but I am afraid they just don't stick to me.
