SoundExchange "Study" Causes a Snore

| 6 Comments | No TrackBacks

SoundExchange issued a press release on Friday announcing the findings of a recent "study" of theirs. The purpose of the study is to find out... whether music is important to satellite radio. Yes folks, someone actually spent money on this. Are you ready for the amazing stats? Here goes:

43% of respondents said they would cancel if their satellite radio service didn't have any music (OMG!). 53% said they that music is the most critical programming factor (OMG!). People spent nearly half their time listening to music (OMFG!). And, hold on to your hats, the respondents on average would not pay the full $12.95/month for satellite if it didn't have music (OMFGROFLMAO!).

The purpose to this press release is obvious and the ulterior motive is completely transparent. As a result, this release hasn't (and won't) get any traction in the media. Nope, nothing. Sorry guys, try again (or try offering a realistic deal).

To me, it seems like if ONLY 43% would cancel were there no music, they're shooting themselves in the own foot with that info.

How many artists who are receiving paychecks as a result of satellite radio playing their music would return to absolute obscurity without the play they get on sat rad?

They should be more interested in the millions of Ipod users that don't pay for Itunes and prefer to download music illegally from Limewire or similar sites. Who the FH are they trying to kid! Don't they know how many new artists are being discovered on SATRAD.

this was done before by "Skyreport" This report tracked subscriber numbers earnings cash burn outstanding shares SAC and so many other vitals that no one tracks anymore. It was an invaluable recource and I wish Orbitcast would do this along with the gross subscriber chart shown here.

"skyreport" came up with 75 to 85% of the people getting Sat Rad for comercial free music.

P.S. I am unsure if it was called skyreport or something else. If I can find one of the old reports I will send it to Ryan.

sorry.. its not Skyreport. Still searching for one of the old reports.

it was Skywaves. by far the best reporting of Sat rad untill they stopped.
