Yesterday's interview with Michelle Obama on XM took place just hours before her opening night address to the Democratic Convention, where her husband will become the next Democratic presidential nominee. It also kicked off Gayle King's week of live broadcasts direct from Denver on the Oprah & Friends channel (ch 156).XM provided some select excerpts from the interview, check them out after the jump.
In response to questions about her nerves in advance of last night's speech:
On when she knew Sen. Joe Biden had been selected as Senator Obama's Vice Presidential pick:
On her daughters' reaction to Senator Obama's Vice Presidential selection:
On Barack Obama himself:
"What I try to take in to every speech is 'just be yourself.' And that's easy to do. As long as I don't have to be anybody other than Michelle Obama, I figure I know me better than anybody. And I can do that pretty well."
On when she knew Sen. Joe Biden had been selected as Senator Obama's Vice Presidential pick:
"I knew before you knew, [Gayle] ... I knew before you did. But that's all I'll say. But people ask, did I play a role? Absolutely not ... I always tell him, 'This is your choice. You will be the president of the United States and you've got to have somebody that you can trust, that you think will have your back, that believes in you.' I give the general advice. Is the person a good man?"
On her daughters' reaction to Senator Obama's Vice Presidential selection:
"When I told the girls who the choice was ... I said, 'It's this man named Senator Biden.' And Malia, our oldest said, 'Well is he nice?' And we said, 'Yes, he's a very nice man. I met his family and he believes in family and he works hard,' and then she said 'Is he smart?' and I said 'He's very smart.' She was like, 'Well if he's a nice man and he's smart then it sounds like a good decision."
On Barack Obama himself:
"The one thing that I can tell people is, Barack has not disappointed me once in the 20 years or more that I've known him. Not once. And that's the only reason why I can be sitting here."

Anybody care?
cricket. cricket. cricket.
Hot on Left.
Ugly on Right.
I don't care. I'm not worked up about this election. Just like the first Bush election, I don't really care about either candidate.
I don't like some of Bush's policies, and I don't see McCain as anything better. Bush pretty much betrayed conservatives, as far as I'm concerned.
But Obama's not going to be our savior, either. When I hear about some of his policy choices, I cringe.
It's sad that we can't seem to find any candidates who actually want to change things for the better, rather than either keep the status quo or just line their own pockets.
