Sprint Nextel dropping Sirius service?

Sprint and Sirius no more?Sirius Nextel told its customers in a billing insert that they're dropping the Sirius streaming music service for Vision and Power Vision data subscribers.

Sirius Music is apparently getting the boot in favor of 10 "genre-based channels" of mobile music.

UPDATE: More has been learned about this, read about it here.

Sprint Nextel will also be expanding their basic Sprint TV service with additional content from CNN, The Weather Channel, E!, NFL Network and Fox Sports.

A Sprint Nextel spokesman had nothing further to say other than what was already revealed in the billing insert.

If this is the case, it obviously won't have a major impact on subscribers (the act of Sprint dropping Sirius indicates that it was a less-than-stellar success... surprised?). But it was an important foothold for the future when mobile music gains acceptance by the masses.

Let's translate: The vast majority of people don't care even a little about mobile phone music, video, web access, etc...

They just want to make calls.

Verizon's been pushing that expensive, useless Vcast shit for years now, and I've yet to meet anyone who uses it. I find it more of an impediment to using my phone, than anything else.

It doesn't help that people resent the Telco's and their hidden charges and contracts. Who'd want to give them more money?

Maybe a well-designed usable convergence device geared toward consumers rather than business (like the iPhone) will change things. Who knows?

Maybe not a decision by Sprint, but rather by Mel, in a genious move to point to yet another nationwide competitor...hmmm....

I didn't even know this was an opition to have on Sprint. How long has this been out there? I have been a Sprint customer for two years and never saw any thing about Sirius and Sprint togehter.
