If you've been following the evolution of StarPlayr, you saw that first it was just an idea, then it became a reality (with Windows software and an iPhone app); so now the next step is to monetize on it all.
Introducing the Sponsor Marketing System for the StarPlayr platform.
It's a brilliantly simple idea, and one that I hope catches on. It's designed to be a cost effective way for advertisers to get their products and services out there in front of users, but in a unique way that doesn't interrupt the listening experience.
Here's the idea:
Instead of time-sliced, interruption-based advertising, (i.e. frequency and repetition - the "old model" of advertising) the new system provides 100% exposure on the purchased channel without getting in the way. The beauty is that these users are already connected online (in some form or another), so if someone is listening to a channel - the channel's sponsor not only gets continuous exposure, but also qualified visitors direct from the ads.
Currently it's only available on the StarPlayr for Windows client (there's a new version out by the way, with some sleek features). But expect to see the ad system added to other clients, such as the iPhone app (incidentally, new screenshots of the iPhone app have emerged in addition to the ones leaked back in August).
Currently, the Sponsor Marketing System gives sponsors exclusive 24/7 advertising on any Sirius XM channel on either service (or both). It's sold currently in weekly periods. For talk channels, there's the option for a static or animated image in the album art area (no intrusive, in-your-face animations are allowed though).
Eventually, the plan is to enable scheduled preferences. So, for example, if someone wants to advertise during Bubba on Howard 101 you can, and it will be cheaper than the full 24/7 slot.
Either way, this is a simple, easy to implement method to monetize on internet radio streams. Sirius XM should get behind the folks at StarPlayr, because they're innovating all areas of the experience, and that's a good team to have on your side.

Thanks Mark!

Alot of buzz but no release date. How close is this to being a reality?
Release us the App!!!!!
sweet. another way for advertisers to market on the SatRad platform and not a cent goes to Sirius XM. For being an 'Ad Guy', Mel has dropped the ball from an Ad Revenue standpoint. The 80's are over. Digitalize or you will go away.
My concern is that siriusXm didnt have someone working on this product from within their company and have it ready to go long before now. They could have given the app away for free and lured more internet subs to sign up.
And like last time... it still doesn't work on my PC.

Check with their support. They have been working to resolve any issues they can. It even works through almost all corporate firewalls now :)

StarPlayr for Windows runs fine on my PC. They do have two support forums for their Mac and PC products. Why send a direct message to them about it not working
Doesn't work.
I use the lite product on my Mac - but I occasionally get a hissing/chirping sound from the stream. I don't recall that with the Sirius stream or the SiriusMac application.
Still, it works perfectly well as far as function is concerned. I'm DYING for the iPhone app so that I can listen to Stern on the train.

i'm not sure if sirius xm would be happy about people piggybacking off their online streams by using visual advertisements...i smell a lawsuit waiting to happen.
Please send your issue to GeeksToolBox.com forums for support for StarPlayr for Windows. If using StarLight for Mac direct those issues with NiceMac.com.
This is not the place to talk about not working issues.
Isn't this pointless if the Player in minimized? I'm pretty sure most people aren't looking at the player unless they are looking to see what is on other channels.
Wait... Sirius isn't making the ad revenue? That's not legal. This isn't going to last long...
The Starplayr apps are the future for SIRIUS XM. Mel and Co. may be too stupid to realize it though, and that sucks. These apps really are the shit. Being a SIRIUS CSR, I would highly recommend them!
I just downloaded Starplayr and have assigned 13 out of the 20 presets. I only have an online account with XM; however Starplayr offers much greater flexibility in the number of presets offered. And I also really like the Lyrics feature that enables you to pull up heretofore unknown or uncertain lyrics to favorite songs. I think they have a real winner here.
The text ads run 24/7 so if you do any interaction on the channel, you will see the them. Also how is this illegal? They wrote the software and are giving it away free? StarPlayr makes no money off any subscribtion sales and they provide the StreamSmartâ„¢ backend server for free as well. They have to re-coup their costs some how. User donations will only take them so far. Google posts ads all over other people's content on their own search pages. The StreamSmartâ„¢ and StarPlayr products are owned by NiceMac LLC and are not owned by Sirius XM. I don't think Sirius XM has a say and they should have thought about this before a third party come up with a way to make money.
The audio and PDT display is not interrupted with ads. The ads are an addition to the product and users who use the player don't have to donate to NiceMac LLC either. Ads are pretty common place these days to make money.
Hissing and chirping is being addressed in the next public release of StarLight.
I would not be surprised if Sirius XM themselves jumped on this right away and paid StarPlayr to advertise their bonus services and products. If I was watching howard stern and a few hot chicks popped up in t-shirts selling History of Howard Stern shirts, I would click and buy one right away.
StarPlayr is sitting on a gold mine.
