StarPlayr: Satellite Radio on Windows Mobile now available

StarPlayr Windows MobileThe iPhone may be stealing the limelight lately, especially with apps that allow for listening to satellite radio on the iPhone, or most recently Slacker on the iPhone.

But don't discount Windows Mobile phones. Especially when 20 million Windows Mobile phones were sold last year (that's right, 20,000,000).

The folks at StarPlayr aren't missing out on the opportunity for Windows Mobile phones either, and so the retail version of their StarPlayr for Windows Mobile was released today.
This version of StarPlayr for Windows Mobile, which is now available to the public, has some much desired features including:

  • Album Art
  • What's Playing
  • Lyrics
  • Support for both Sirius and XM
  • Sirius CD Quality (128K) and XM High Quality (64K) Support
  • Presets that sync with other StreamSmart Clients (such as StarPlayr for Windows)
  • Small Application Footprint (under 200k)
  • Encrypted credential transmission
This is an actual retail release, so the program costs about $10 (after a 3-day grace period). But since you're paying for it, the advertisements embedded by StarPlayr are removed.

Check out the screenshots below, or download the app.

Excellent news Ryan. This means I can keep Verizon and still listen to Sirius on my phone. Can anybody recommend a good Verizon Windows Mobile Phone? Thanks!

I don't see why anyone would pay for this when there are perfectly valid free, web based ways to stream the feed, like MusicDock.

The Verizon Touch Pro would be a good Windows Mobile phone, Muscle13. I have the Sprint version and love it!

@JustJon

Just one example is that MusicDock only supports XM.

In addition to MusicDock not supporting Sirius, I can't surf the web while listening with MusicDock.

There are a bunch of other little things too i.e. Lyrics, etc.

leave it to a dot.net"er" to sell everyone out. just keep your comments to yourself Jon, all we need is the wrong person to read this and then our beloved musicdock will be gone dumbass

People are paying for it otherwise they won't be selling it. Looks like you are trying to hijack the thread with MD.

Does MusicDock have Lyrics, Album art, and server side presets that work on both the Windows desktop and mobile versions?

Does MusicDock transcode or play native audio?

StarPlayr WM and Windows works great. Highly recommend both products. Right now the deskop version is free, but I hear they are working on StarPlayr Pro with amazingly cool features.

I would not trust MusicDock. It looks like they are stealing people's logins. It is does not legit. Doesn't even have a Sirius or XM logo on it. StarPlayr WM uses a secure login that is heavily encrypted.

With StarPlayr WM your personal information does not get spewed out onto the web away from spammers and account hi-jackers. MusicDock smells bad. I am staying away from it. StarPlayr for Windows Mobile FTW!

MusicDock is crap. It only supports XM radio. It's login is not secure. They are putting users a risk. It is web based. Looks worse than XM's own online solution.

StarPlayr WM does not require a web browser to run. Works great with instant on streaming. Has album art and song lyrics.

It's amazing. You just have to try it and you'll be hooked.

Does not require an iPhone either. Though the iPhone version looks incredible. But other than that, you get the same Sirius and XM content in one Mobile Application which is really the most important thing. Content is King and StarPlayr WM has both Sirius and XM.

MusicDock Sucks.

MD does not have a support forum, StarPlayr has two, GeeksToolBox and NiceMac. MD sounds and looks fishy. too

StarPlayr has much better brand recognition and currently runs on Windows Mobile, Windows XP and Vista, StarLightXM for Mac, uSirius StarPlayr for iPhone (coming very soon).

I've tested all four platforms. Can't beat what these guys are doing.

Salute

Shouldn't this thread be about StarPlayr?

Whoa!!!

Easy there guys :) I appreciate the defenders... but easy ;)

I am pretty sure MD isn't stealing info... they've been around a while and used to be MiniXM.

I'd like to think we have a little bit better product though, and we are constantly making system improvements.

Some of the highlights are:

- Secure data transmission
- Lyrics
- Server sync'd presets so other StarPlayr clients are aware of the same presets.

- Native application so you can use your phone to do anything else you want, including surf while listening.

- Sirius AND XM support in a single application.

Try it out... I think it will speak for itself. And if something is missing, head on over to the support forums... your suggestion may just make the next maintenance release :)

After we finish Jon off, I will head on over and make some suggestions.

Still Don't like MusicDock raining on your parade. I mean come on. If MusicDock is so good why does he have to spam your thread?

Get a life Jon. Go StarPlayr Go! Best Sirius XM software. Period.

Hey Ryan...so, why have you not reported at all on Dave Hughes' story that XM Traffic & Weather is going out? I hear it'll happen tonight.

iPhone & Windows Mobile is covered...all that's left is the Blackberry. Hopefully we see that soon..I'd love to get it along side the Slacker App!!

I will give StarPlayr a try, but this one I think is the best http://www.selectradio.com/index.html

SelectRadio is more than double the price! It's a good idea and all, but very pricey. All I want is Sirius and XM, and I love the lyrics on StarPlayr too.

StarPlayr is clearly better than 5000 crap stations.

What's the iPhone App?

Just got my 1st windows mobile phone. So is this Sirius app available or not? How do I get it?
