Stern Regular, Captain Janks, Hits CNN
Thomas Cipriano, better known as Captain Janks from The Howard Stern Show, got through to CNN's "The Situation Room" yesterday. Janks was posing as Wendy Hutchens, a California woman who claims that five years ago she had detailed chats about the death of JonBenet Ramsey with murder suspect John Mark Karr.
"Wendy Hutchens is joining us on the phone right now," Wolf Blitzer told viewers. "Wendy, thanks very much for doing this. Tell our viewers how you got involved with John Mark Karr." The fake Wendy, being impersonated by a man mind you, explained that she met Karr through a relative.
"So then what happened after that?" Blitzer pressed. "When did the E-mail, when did the talk of JonBenet Ramsey begin?"
The fake Wendy answered: "It started around September of 2001, when he told me that he knew more about the JonBenet Ramsey case than what anybody else had known - and that he was instructed to kill JonBenet by Howard Stern."
"All right. Well, that sounds like we've just been Howard Sterned, as they say," concluded Blitzer.

"What a hack bit. I remember when that was funny, say 10 years ago."
Yeah, Janks should just call small-time radio shows and flood websites with "Ramone" references... Right?
Posted by: AIR ? | August 24, 2006 3:07 PM
With the show getting this much attention the competition best watch out!
I like yoooooooogurt

[Yeah, Janks should just call small-time radio shows and flood websites with "Ramone" references... Right?]
Janks is a one-trick horse. How long has it been since he's done one of those calls? Five, six years, more? I don't remember one since 9/11. His 15 minutes was up long before that. I guess he's holding onto his quasi-fame as long as possible.
What's next? A Fred the Elephant Boy bit?
Welcome back to 1996 except not nearly as funny.

[funny its 2006 and i'm listening to stern on sirius and i'm still laughing all day and all night.]
Do ya?
Honestly, you know what it is, right? Diff'rent strokes for diff'rent folks. I personally do not find his show funny anymore, and I haven't found it funny since his divorce. To me, it started with Billy West leaving and then when Jackie left, and finally after his divorce. I've moved on.

oh my god, oh my god! All the o&a fans do is come to stern posts and post their stupid little comments. you guys just hit the refresh button and flood the comments with anti stern stuff. if you guys don't like Stern, then why comment?
Sound familiar jackasses?

SF73... I'm already subscribed to XM and do not want the added cost of a dual subscription. I also personally like XM's content beyond O&A and only listen to them a small portion of each day.
You see, if he was syndicated to terrestrial radio for a portion of his program (and I found it as entertaining as it used to be), I might be inclined to check out the Sirius portion of the show by becoming a dual subscriber. There are a few things on Sirius I'd like to hear (like Jim Brewer) and some college sports, but it's not enough to get me to switch or go "dual." Also, there hasn't been much "live" Howie content to listen to this month.
Do they still have a free online trial that includes Stern? I'd certainly check it out and give you my honest opinion.

Stop trying to convince dumbfucks.
I'm surprised that Ryan actually posted a Stern Bit.

Hey SternFan73, i was told Howard's show was better than before cuz i couldnt stand him anymore, he bored me. I am now a subscriber as of August 8th. I really like the show again....it is great again. Sal and Richard are hilarious. Artie is a pathetic fat fuck, but love him now. Who knew?!

"Welcome back to 1996 except not nearly as funny."
Is it really?
I guess we need to listen to Imus since he seems to be leading every other "funny" show in ratings. 94,000 people can't be wrong.

Ah yes, if you have any opinion that goes against Stern, you're a dumbfuck.

Not for long. Not until there are three full months of O&A ratings without DLR.

Posted by: Highpowered350 | August 24, 2006 6:00 PM
Come on guys, Anything that can make Wolf Blitzer even MORE stupid than he already does by himself is an accomplishment. I have no love for Stern, but give it up for screwing with such a stuffed suit.
Posted by: History Guy ? | August 24, 2006 7:11 PM
That is great, free advertising, by the way.
Janks doesn't get paid by Howard. He's just a fan.
Posted by: Schimshamity ? | August 24, 2006 11:04 PM
Wow, that's reall edgy..."Stern told me to kill JB Ramsey". Yuk!
This is why O&A are more intelligent, their references are more suttle and actually have humor value to them.

I have to say that if a O&A regular like Doug Out Doug or BAM got through and did this, this argument would be flipped.
Although it is hacky, it is funny.

[I have to say that if a O&A regular like Doug Out Doug or BAM got through and did this, this argument would be flipped.]
If Dougout Doug ever did anything that hacky, I would punch him in his face.
Doug would say something funny that only O&A fans would get "John Karr then told me "She was the greatest piece of ass I've ever had, and I've had em all over the world!"

Hi best was when he called about the San Diego/Los Angeles fires and said that the fires were caused by a blast from Howard Stern's ass.

Was it?

"Was it?"
Yes

I always thought hacky meant unoriginal.
These are funnier anyway:

[I always thought hacky meant unoriginal.]
Hack or Hacky comes from Hackneyed which means overused, ordinary, or unimaginative.
Back in the day, it was a classic bit, but these days, the prank call is hacky, IMO.
In terms of stand-up comedy, the work hack revolves around the originality of the jokes and whether or not a comedian lifts or steals it from another comic.
Posted by: theicepik ? | August 25, 2006 3:47 PM
learn something new everyday. Can you call the originator "hacky" if he's still doing it? I would agree if it were some other fan who thinks they were the first.

[learn something new everyday. Can you call the originator "hacky" if he's still doing it? I would agree if it were some other fan who thinks they were the first.]
I guess it depends on how you'd define "hacky." If going by the first definition of "overused, unimaginary" the answer is probably yes, if the person is still doing the same shtick that no longer is as funny as when it was when they first started doing it.
Under the definition used by comics, where they're talking about originality, the answer is no, the originator can never be a hack.
Posted by: theicepik ? | August 25, 2006 4:18 PM
Well icepick...do you think that you simply don't like the bit because it has to do with Howard and you prefer O&A?
Posted by: AIR ? | August 25, 2006 5:16 PM
I wonder if stern and o&a were around for the next 100 years we would all be argueing the same shit over and over. Shows you how strong radio shows can lure you in to become such passionate fans. Good shit

[Well icepick...do you think that you simply don't like the bit because it has to do with Howard and you prefer O&A?]
Honestly, I instantly thought it was hack because it has already been played out dozens of times, regardless of having to do with Howard or not. I may not listen to Howard anymore and enjoy O&A now, but I'm not going to lie if something is truly funny, even if it comes out of Howard's mouth. I enjoy humor regardless.
Posted by: theicepik ? | August 25, 2006 6:11 PM
I could argue that the O&A radio feud D R A M A is hacky in both senses. Certainly isn't original or fooling anyone.

I think we can all respect an opinion when it put in this perspective. I personally love Janks and his signature bit. Its been a part of the Stern show for a long time and for me it never gets old.
