It's been confirmed that Artie Lange, the stout sidekick on The Howard Stern Show, has been hospitalized for yet-unknown reasons.
As first reported by TMZ, Artie Lange was rushed to a local New Jersey hospital on Saturday, January 2nd for undisclosed reasons.

"We can confirm that Artie is in the hospital," a representative for Lange said. "Artie has chosen to keep all information on this matter between him and his doctor. There will be no further comment."

Lange hasn't appeared on the Stern Show since December 9th (the last show before breaking for the holidays was December 17th).

Artie Lange has also canceled multiple stand-up gigs including a New Year's Eve gig at the Borgata, according to his website. Additionally, all dates through February have also been canceled.

Lange has had a history of substance abuse issues, including when he checked himself into a rehab clinic in late 2008. In 2009, Lange was busted for DUI (prescription sleeping pills) after crashing his car into Toms River in July.

The Howard Stern Show is scheduled to return live on Monday, January 4th.

What else is new. He might as well start calling these suicide attempts. How many chances does one get to cheat death?

I thought the reason for Artie's absence was his court ordered community service. I hope George Takei can fill in while Artie is getting better.

Don't know what his issues are...we can only assume but I hope the guy is ok. I only subscribe to the XM side but I used to hear him alot on the Stern show when it was on K-Rock.

rumors running around saying bleach and pills. good luck with that. oh boo hoo fame is ruining my life. boo hoo.

Hope everything is ok and he gets better soon. Lange is one of the funniest people on radio... I never knew that until Jim Norton sang his praises and then I checked him out.

I know he has had his demons, as so many creative brilliant people do. Let's hope he comes out ok and gets back to work.

I thought the Stern show gets no press in the mainstream media and nobody cares?

Looks like 0.0 lose again...

Peace Out Fat Boy

Stern should get rid of this fat fucking failure and bring Jackie back.

It's clear this guy has serious substance abuse problems. Being a shill for Howard, having a standup career, plus a book out, you'd think he'd be on top of the world.

An unfortunate example of how some people just can't handle fame/notoriety. I have never cared for him, but I certainly hope he gets help.

Listen, Gar...*cough*cough*, look, I'm not gonna be in *cough*. I'm going through some stuff right now *cough cough*. Tell Howard I'm sorry.

Pathetic. See ya later, fatass.

Stern will do anything to get publicity!

Hope he makes a full recovery soon.

I don't hate Artie, but this guy is a piece of shit. Chances are this is drug/alcohol related. Only a complete loser would throw success away just to get drunk or high. He should just go away and fix his life. Bring Jackie back, bring Billy West back and things will be right in the world again.

Good luck, bro!

As much as I don't like Stern, Artie is a funny guy. Unfortunately, He's going to go and be stupid and be like Belushi and Chris Farley, both funny people whose lives ended way too early.

Dosen't he pull this stuff every year around this time?

I heard Artie had to listen to an O n A show because his rental car only had XM.

The ungodly pain he must have felt listening to that shit fest would put anyone in the hospital or even the morgue.

Get well soon.

Good luck, bro.

Howard needs Artie, or somebody like him for balance. The first 45 minutes of the show this morning was pretty lame. I think they should use Jackie as a "Substitute Teacher" until Artie either gets better, or completely self-destructs.

he's having his lips removed from hoo hoos ass

Would be great and completely original if they had clips of Artie talking to bounce off of, calling him "Soundboard Artie". That way people could call in and still interact with him. I'm honestly shocked that this hasn't happened yet.

Boo! Leave comedy to comedians.

good luck bro!

Cross your fingers we get our first "celebrity" death of 2010.

Don't you need to be a celebrity first?

You Bloggers, are Assholes. "ADICTION" is a disease and has touched everyone of your Family Members or Friends. or both. If you understood addiction, you would have some compassion and you would also realize that Artie can Recover and lead a very productive, greatful and fullfilled Life. I wish Artie reaches out to Dr.Drew. He is the right Person and maybe the Best Addictionologist there is. He could help Artie in his recovery. I wish you the Best, Artie and I really, really can relate and I wish I had a chance to meet you. God Bless you and remmember, Yesterday is History, tommorrow is a Mystery, all we got is Today. Take care. I also want to comment on Howard Stern and his handeling and Loyalty that he has for People that are close to Him. You are a STAND UP GUY. I would only be greatful to have you as a Friend, Howard. Your wishes for Artie are genuine.
