"Talk to Me with Oprah Winfrey," a new weekly call-in show hosted by Oprah, debuts today at 10am ET, on XM's Oprah & Friends channel (ch 156).
"Talk to Me with Oprah Winfrey" gives listeners a direct way to share their thoughts with Oprah as she takes calls from listeners each week during the half-hour program.
Want to call Oprah to discuss, ask questions and share your own stories? Just call 866-OPRAH-XM (toll-free).
Oprah will open each show with a brief monologue that will serve as the underlying theme, starting with this week's theme "Life Lessons."
"Talk to Me with Oprah Winfrey" will air every Thursday at 10am ET and "Oprah Weekly Highlights" (a 1/2 hour show featuring interviews and moments from the previous week's "The Oprah Winfrey Show") will air Thursdays at 10:30 a.m. ET, both with additional encores airing throughout the week. Interestingly enough, this new programming replaces the weekly "Oprah and Gayle Show."

its funny, there is an entry on orbitcast just above this one that talks about 2 holes having a show on marthas channel....and there is a few posts that seem to think its a pretty good show. now depending on your perspective, now if we were in another dimension and there was a show "talk to me with Martha Stewart", and those 2 holes were on oprahs channel, the comments would be completely opposite, people posting in the article regarding the 2 holes would think "whats XM doing, how are they going to bring in subs with this", and then the regarding the "talk to me with martha stewart" would be like, "great move for sirius, this will definitely help drive female subscriptions"

Okay, so re-runs of Howard's show now count as original content? Friday's "best of" counts as a show? So XM could re-run Oprah's half hour all day every day according to the Stern zombies. And BTW, I am a Stern fan, I just think his show has gotten old and lost its edge. Sorry, Artie is vanilla as is the rest of the show since Jackie left. There's not any other show on his channel that would get anyone to subscribe w/o Howard. Sirius beating XM? Maybe at retail but they haven't been able to close the 2 million sub gap that they've had for years. XM rules OEM, the only place where real growth is possible. As for Sirius, once their OEM free subs from last year run out their numbers will go down even more. Oprah at the top of her game is well worth only 50 million for her branding and selling ability alone, especially compared to an old man on the downside of his career being paid half a billion. And it certainly hasn't paid for itself. He attacted 1.1 million subs. @ 12.99 each that's slightly more than 14 million dollars, 86 million short of Howards annual salary, not to mention the money Sirius loses just to sign those people up. The whole company is gambling on one fading star and hemoraging money like FaFaFanboy on his period. I don't like Oprah either but as a business move, it's a sound one.

remember, listen to howard or not, he is responsible for SIRIUS NAME BRAND RECOGNITION. because of that even if they did not sign up for howard, i bet there is a 50% chance that they heard of sirius because of howard.
you know that 12.99 at 1.1 million subs happens every month right? even though its more than 1.1 million. sirius has grown over 600% after stern made his announcement compared to over 200% growth xm expierenced in the same period. Sirius used to be over 3 million subs behind xm; after 2006 they will be about 1.7 million behind. How many people are flocking to xm because of oprah?? or can you not say because you don't want any numbers taken away from o&a? relying on OEM can't be a safe bet when arguing a growth of a company. when trials run out like you said, whats going to happen? whats the churn going to be for both?
Yeah it happens every month but when you include marketing costs, filming commercials, payroll, overhead those 1.1 million subs don't come close to covering costs. But again, you make the discussion about O&A vs Howard. Even your screen name is from a 20 year old Howard gag. And OEM is the battleground, retail makes up so little sales for both companies. Retail requires people going in that actively want the service which is very few people right now. OEM gets the service into millions of people's cars whether they want it or not. Many of those people will keep it. Churn is bad for both companies but Sirius gave away 1 year free subs last year and they are all coming to an end. Even if half those people keep their subs the churn will be remarkably high. Okay, make your Howard vs. O&A comment now.
PNess, every reputable source in media has put Howards subs @ 1.1 million. I'm in the industry and every industry source states the same. Sirius had about 2 million subs before Howard even announced his move. Do you think every single sub is because of Howard? If so, what the hell are Sirius going to do when he retires? You do realize he's an old man right?

Go ahead and read some real business analysis and you'll see that everyone that does this for a living has looked at the numbers and concluded Sirius has lost a ton of money on the deal, that it was a huge disapointment and that currently less than 20% of subs site Howard's show as a reason for joining.
