Talkers Heavy Hundred: Howard Stern, Opie & Anthony and Bubba drop

Howard Stern, Opie and Anthony, Bubba the Love Sponge

Once again, trade publication Talker's Magazine has released its "Heavy Hundred" list of top talk radio hosts. And, once again, satellite radio's talkers have been lowered in their rankings.

Last year, Howard Stern came in at #13, while Opie & Anthony were ranked #17. But this year? None of them ranked even in the Top 20.
In 2007, Howard Stern ranked as #12 on the Talker's Heavy Hundred - a significant drop from his #1 ranking the year prior. Also for 2007, Opie & Anthony ranked as #6 - it seemed like edgy satellite radio programming was finally getting the recognition it deserved.

But in 2008, Stern dropped to #13, while O&A fell to #17. Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity and Michael Savage took the top three spots.

This year, the top three slots remain the same, with Limbaugh, Hannity and Savage considered the leaders of talk radio. But Talker's subjective list has placed Howard Stern at #32, a far cry from his #1 ranking in the Heavy Hundred only three years earlier.

And Opie & Anthony and Bubba The Love Sponge earn the gracious ranking of #51 and #52, respectively. Meanwhile, amazing talent like Mancow earns a spot in the Top 10, as the #9 top talker.

Shock jocks aside, Joe Madison has earned a spot as #12 in the Talker's Heavy Hundred.

Keep in mind that the Talker's Heavy Hundred is entirely determined by the Talker's Magazine staff, and is a completely subjective list. So we're free to put together our own list of top talkers to show them who's really number 1.

yawn.

Gee, whoda thunk a mouthpiece for the NAB would downgrade Satellite personalities while promoting terrestrial "talent". What a waste of time.

It's actually quite telling about the shitty state of terrestrial radio when a absolute zero like Mancow can crack the Top 10.

This "list" is a total farce. Okay, I get it, Limbaugh and Hannity should be at the top. But, holy fucking god damn! MANCOW? Yes that's right, Fucking douche bag Mancow, is in the top ten? Talkers magazine = no credibility.

" Orbitcast's Top Talkers for 2006:

1. Howard Stern
2. Bubba The Love Sponge
3. Scott Ferral
4. James Carvelle and The Other Guy
5. Bob Edwards
6. Ron & Fez
7. Broadminded
8. Ellen DeGeneres
9. Bill O'Reilly
10. Oprah

Following the Top 10, Orbitcast readers will be surprised to read that Opie and Anthony came in at #245 because they suck."

ryan you were ahead of your time my friend!

I am certain some of you know that Sirius management (a gentleman
named STEVE was mentioned) is censoring the O&A show.

According to the boys, this isn't the first time that Sirius management has interfered with their show either telling them to tone down down their material or attempting to eliminate the fans from being part of a live studio audience.

So much for UNCENSORED radio.

Can we finally put to bed the Stern vs. O and A fan BS on these boards now that all are niche' talents...?

Let's see, satellite radio has an audience of 20 million or more if you count "listeners" and terrestrial radio has a market of a few hundred nillion, so how could you make a comparison. It's like apples and oranges.

Opie and Aint funny couldn't draw a crowd with a naked chick standing on Fifth street. The show sucks, Friday shows with an audience are the worse then Aint Funny starts his racist crap and off the station goes, Krock is about to change formats so that will be the end. Then sat radio is about to join the dodo birds and that will be that.

Your mom's box.

Not even sure why we pay any attention to such a biased list....

Seriously, Mancow is ranked? And ranked in the Top 10? The guy is not only a complete farce, but is he even on in any major metro area? That list is pathetic. There is no way O&A should be ranked that low. Even Howard got screwed.

BS list is BS.

There are not 20 million people listening to Sirius XM!!
When is someone going to make them correct this blatantly false and made-up figure?

Wow... ground breaking. It is an NAB rag.

Personal finance expert Dave Ramsey appears as #7 on the list. I’m sure it’s just a coincidence that he pays for a 125X125 advertisement on the Talkers website. Yeah, sure. Maybe if Howard Stern buys an ad on Talkers, he’ll do better next year than the #32 that he finds himself at now. The man makes $100 million a year doing radio, but I’m supposed to believe that there are 31 more important people in radio.

MANCOW? Mancow? MAN-COW? ARE YOU SERIOUS???

Maybe if this was 1999 I would agree. Ten years later? Not so much.

These lists are completely irrelevant. Almost all talk shows on terrestrial are the same interchangable crap and the better ones (Adam Carolla and Tommy Mischke, for example) are dumped by the idiots in charge. As imperfect as they might be, satellite and internet radio are all we really have left if we have brains at all. Talkers Magazine isn't really going to cover either of these with any respect, because the NAB now considers these a major threat and wants to silence them.

Number 54, Tom Leykis... Wasn't he just FIRED? How do you make the top 100 AND get fired the same week??

Adam Carolla is just above 100... He too was shit-canned...

Talker's Magazine "Heavy Hundred" IS A JOKE!! Its an ad for testicle radio. I see two local Pittsburgh shows here. How do you make the top 100 from Pittsburgh?...

Don't get me wrong I love my town and my Steelers but, "The Hons man" ... PLEASE!

O&A had great promise, but I blame Obama. Speaking for myself Anthony's rants and racists connotations made me listen less. It turned from a comedic show to the "Anthony does not like Obama show"

No they just want funny and interesting radio. That could be misconstrued (big word for you oral n anal donks to comprehend)by those hacks as censorship.

If they're unhappy then they should focus on their testicular radio empire of 2 stations. Soon to be ZERO point ZERO.

As for oral n anal being so low on the list it's pretty funny considering they're in the #1 radio market but obviously aren't near #1 in ratings.

Where's ron n pez? I know they're stocking shelves right now, but where are they on the list? Did they even make it?

I like how all the fanboys are screaming how this list is now a "joke" since their favorite personality has been moved down the list. When Howard was #1 and O&A were in the top 10, everyone was praising it.

Also, Ryan, any reason O&A are sandwiched between Howard and Bubba? That is four way I would not want to see. If I did, may a chimp gouge out my eyes.

how the hell is mancow ranked higher then opie and anthony. hell I would rather listen to bubba with his fake radio voice then the douche bag namcow

Who reads a magazine about talk radio? what a joke.

Does the fact that many topics or guests that appear on the Howard Stern show end up in the top ten of Google trends every day give some indication that he's still quite influential? His sidekick has also released a book that debuted at Number #1 on the New York Times bestseller last November. Show me where Mancow can equal that level of influence.

So was that dope Leykis dropped from ALL affiliates, or just KLSX? If he was dropped entirely, how long before he comes crawling to Sirius XM looking to get put on Howard 101, The Virus, or Stars 2? Hopefully, they'll be smart enough to either not add him, or to put him on in the middle of the night. :)

Maybe because the show sucks ass now?

Look, why is it that when ever something comes out and mentions Stern, O&A, this board has to turn into a goddamn bitchfest. Its a stupid list that doesnt mean shit unless you are in market #50 and you made the list by some unforseen reason. You jump for joy that you got recognized. Doesnt everyone realize that eventually Stern's show and the O&A show are going to have to co-exist in one way or another in order for SiriusXM to maintain big names in the industry. A start is that Jim Norton and Artie Lange are doing a show together tomorrow night 2/21 at the Tower Theater in Upper Darby, PA. TICKETS ON SALE NOW!!

amazing talent like mancow. did he just say that? that's like saying "what a beautiful mullet you have"

Mancow in the top 10 is an absolute joke. The guy managed to get back on here in Chicago on WLS but it's not syndicated and he even has to share the show with the news guy.

Stern may not have moved up but the fact that testicle radio has still not recovered from losing him is a testament to his influence.

The Boy's have become way, way, way too political. They lost the funny, it's just that simple, they are now more Hannity-Combs.

Stern retired in 2007. I loved the guy and was a fan from the 90's, but 4 days a week, rely'n on Rusty and Sal for bits and the every day Eric the midget... Artie the circus bear and his drug tricks...

Bubba sold out the base he had nation wise to be yokel-local.

Ron & Fez have their momnets... but not a steady everyday show.

The Boy's or Opie need to take control of his show back, let Jimmy rant and keep Ant to talking movies and whores.

Howard should just walk away like Farve. It's Sad to see the King just linger and fade like this.

Maybe by Heaviest 100 it means fattest, that would explain how Mancow made the top 10. Although, that wouldn't explain Bubba being so low.

Re: "Talkers"

So what??

I don't give a rats ass for Stern,O&A,"Bubba" Limbaugh,Hannity,etc.

Let's see...

1.A bunch of people worrying about Stern's show (I wouldn't pay him ANYTHING except a percentage of ads on his program. Same for the rest like him). That being said, the decline in ratings of slugs like Stern,O&A,&"Bubba" may demonstrate they have become marginalized due to their lack of creativity except to play to the lowest denominator. They're basically "played"

2. Limbaugh,Hannity,et.al: Right wing bitching and moaning ever damn day. Same variation of 5 or 6 themes - government is bad, blah, blah, blah;we get it....we get it.... alright? What else is new, same damn BS for the last 10-15 years. Method is to play up to insecure fearful people who need a show to relate to. But hey at least it gives their audience the illusion that they are making a difference and it does keep them occupied.

Shortest book in the world: "My Days In The Military" by R. Limbaugh & S.Hannity

2nd shortest book in the world: "Married For Life and Raising a Family" by R. Limbaugh

(Those are my own as far as I know)

Never forget that these people sit on their ass and TALK for a living(real DJ's,News & Sports Announcers excepted of course). They're not good for anything else. Hell if they hadn't found their "thing" they would be selling shoes at Pic "N" Pay or hawking cell phones and overpriced junk at Radio Shack.

Whoever said a mag for talk radio is a joke is dumb why do you come to this board then? Oh thats right to talk about video? fag

Oh, I forgot...

"Never forget that these people sit on their ass & TALK for a living(real DJ's........."

That's mine too!!!!!

O&A had great promise, but I blame Obama. Speaking for myself Anthony's rants and racists connotations made me listen less. It turned from a comedic show to the "Anthony does not like Obama show"

I agree 150%, all the obama bashing is making me turn the channel.

this is for you stupid fucking O&A sheep who dont get it...since you need one of your hero's to spell everything out for you in order for the very dim lightbulb above your heads to work..
here you go

from Norton interview on FMBQ

You recently laid some seeds of peace by helping bring Andrew Dice Clay back to the O&A show. Is this another step in the process of working things out between the two shows?
Nah, it’s not my place to do it, because there is nothing I can do about it. I would love to see it work out, because to me, it’s in everyone’s best interest for it to work out. We all need Sirius XM to work in order to survive. It’s stupid for our show not to push Howard’s package or for Howard’s show not to push our package. It’s financially in the interest of everybody to succeed. So I would love to see things work out because we all want to have a gig.

Hoo Hoo . I invented # 32 .
Tell em Fred .

"This year, the top three slots remain the same, with Limbaugh, Hannity and Savage considered the leaders of talk radio."

ewwwwwwwwwwww.....hate slingers. real good!

They all SUCK and all are a waste of money and satellite bandwidth.

Ron and Fez noon to three.

Mancow in the top 10??? Mancow is so bad he can't even stay on the air in his hometown of Chicago!

Boy is this list a load of CRAP. Glen Ordway at #87???? This guy has the highest rated sports show in the COUNTRY!!! He is on Sportsradio WEEI in Boston (which also has 4 other stations in New England). Wow they are IDIOTS.

===============================================

apparently you didnt get it.....good job hayseed! point out info people already know.....like artie and jimmy havent done gigs for years.....you must be one of those donkeys who recently discovered "shock jocks" since your small town of 12 never had howard on their local stations!

you seem to hate talk radio in general, but remember satrad has the numbers mainly because of that format. Howard brought huge numbers to sirius and o and a were the most listened to channel on xm (as per Eric Logan) if it is music you want why not get an ipod and program what you like. Whether you like howard, o and a or both they are what draws alot of people to satrad. This continues to be a bitch fest between howard and o and a fans, which is getting old, they both are popular and are needed to keep sirius/xm alive.

I agree that the O&A/Stern war has gotten very old. I also agree
that both are necessary to keep satellite radio alive.

The only thing I don't agree with is Sirius' attempt to continually mess with the Opie and Anthony show. There have not only been several attempts to censor material on the show, but management is also moving them out of their large studio and moving them to a smaller one where fans will no longer be permitted to be part of the show.

Sirius touts itself as "uncensored" but the reality of the situation is, they are censoring talent.

I don't hate talk radio as long as its got something worthwhile to listen to. If you're refering to sports talk, business topics or how to tune up a '63 Ford Fairlane 221 CID on "Shop Talk" that's a different matter.

I long ago grew weary of sophmoric bathroom style humor that passes for content on most morning DJ "shockjock" BS'ing let alone that crap that Stern,,O&A,"Bubba",etc puke out. I have the
pre-merger Arbitron SatRad ratings around here somewhere and I don't recall O&A being anywhere near the top 10 most listened to channels on XM.
They were music channels as far as I recall.

As far as right-wing (or left-wing jabber for that matter) it's always a variation of 5 or 6 themes and "they're out to get us" polarizing mantra that hasen't changed in 10 -15 years
Same shit different day.

As I posted, I've been a XM subscriber for 7 years now and XM grew quite nicely without O&A. I'm sure you are aware that the only reason XM even took on O&A was because their sorry asses were kicked off terra radio and XM picked them up. Initially you had to pay extra to listen to their crap which suited me fine. I wouldn't give a red cent to hear them.

As far as iPods, etc, the ORIGINAL XM did not include morons like them and that was definately not what motivated me to subscribe to SatRad.

Since it seems you want to eat the peanuts out of Stern,O&A,"BUBBA"'s stuff then you good subscriber SHOULD pay extra for their shows. If they're the draw you claim them to be pay them a basic salary and give them a percentage of the take on commercials. Then see how long they stick around.

Face it, most of their allure was because they did their best to skirt FCC guidelines. Once they came to SatRad, the "forbidden fruit' wasn't forbidden anymore and it lost its appeal.

They're "played". Get over it. Maybe they'll sell their old shows to devoted fans like you on an iPod and you can get your jollies that way.

By all means, help yourself.

I could not agree more.

Give me information-driven talk on something interesting, not the predictable politics and teen-appeal pseudo-humor that you get from most of the people on this "Talkers" list.

And your suggestion to make Stern and O and A premium services is a good one. If they're so good, let the people who want them pay for them. Howard Stern may have saved Sirius by rescuing them from obscurity, but there is no suggestion anywhere that he has done anything but hurt satellite radio in general by drawing XM into a spending competition that hurt both services.

I'm just pleased that I still have the choice not to subscribe to "Best of Sirius," an oxymoron if there ever was one.

I could not disagree more with the both of you.

Variety is where it's at...and if you think that satellite radio is only useful for music, you're dead wrong. I don't listen to him personally, but Howard Stern has as much of a place in the "Best of Sirius" as does Martha Stewart and that awful NASCAR channel. XM subscribers already *are* paying extra to listen...don't you get it? Same deal if you want to hear O&A on Sirius...and I happily pay it.

Morning zoo radio has its place, as does car talk and even idiotic left and right-wing chatter. There was talk radio on XM from the very beginning...it's always been part of the service.

w/o O&A and Stern you would have no service to listen to period. The vast majority of subscribers have the service for one of these 2 shows. Should they leave, you'd have nothing. Yeah, they'd have people running to subscribe to learn how to tune up a car. You're right, that's so worth listening to. You can't hear than on NPR. You're such a grown up. Now just fucking die you humorless cunt.

Mancow...?

MANTEETS was a dim witted *shock jock* that FAILED miserably. He then morphed into a hacky political pundit.. What a joke. Top notch radio at its finest.... FAIL

I've never disputed that there should NOT be talk radio on SatRad. The problem I have (and had since the beginning WAY back in 2002) was the SatRad companies paying BIG bucks to mega-personalities for their shows. When XM initially picked up O&A it was an extra $1.99 to listen to them(I have the old schedule in front of me). I had no problem with that. The problem I had was later when XM rolled them into the total package and began the tail chasing race with Sirius in one-upmanship. As a subscriber & stockholder I disagreed early on with the strategy of piling on more and more programming that SHOULD have been premium service and ended up driving both companies into the present situation. It appears my concerns (and a bunch of other subscribers/investors as well) have been proven valid.

Again I say (in context to this particular forum) that it is a valid point (whether it is from a biased mag or not) that Stern,O&A,etc. are in a decline and they are not worth what they used to be(if they EVER were) and adjustments ARE necessary. If their fans think they are worth so much,go back to the old model, pay these slugs a percentage of the extra fee & commercials and a base salary and then see what they are truly worth. Same for sports,Oprah,Martha, etc.

I am a fan of Big O and Dukes on WJFK... did any local programming from that station make the list (I looked, didn't see any)? I thought DC was a big enough market to make a dent in something like this.

The headline is incorrect. Bubba did not "drop," he actually ROSE from #160-something last year to #52 this year.

Did KROCK dump O&A yet? Their show is HORRIBLE. 3 hacks talking about nothing. Soon with siriusxm's mess HS, OA, and BTLS will all be off the air.

PFreak, don't embarrass yourself by pretending that Opie & Hairplugs are even in the same league as Stern.

Mancow must suck all the right dicks in the industry.

Although I generally do not agree with you, I do now, however I do not think it is the same compairing o and a or howard to the likes of oprah and martha. The shock jock format did bring in more than enough subs to cover costs, i do not believe the same can be said about martha or oprah.

What you like or for that matter what i like is not important, for a service like this to survive it requires different programs to gain the interest of the masses. People subscribe for different reasons some for music, some for news, some for programs like o and a or howard. I dont care for certain types of music...classical, punk..., but I realize that there are some people who do, so it should be on satrad.
Your posts are always the same bitching about the shock jock format, we get it you are better than those of us who do. You are: more mature, smarter, more responsible, and generally a better person!!! As for myself - a father of three grown children, financially secure, pay my bills on time, rebuilding a 67 Plymouth Fury II - still enjoy a good fart joke.

Just because I prefer o and a to howard it does not make me a sheep. The real sheep are those who believe that those who do not like what they do are sheep. Did you understand that? Your radio god comes back after a week off and is in a hurry to get out of the studio after 4 hours. I am trying to get into stern but I am having a hard time caring about his show, when he does not seem to care about it. This is in no way bashing Howard or those who like him. Answer this for me: if o and a were so worthless why would mel keep them and yet put a talent like bubba on the back burner.

Don't embarrass yourself by trying to be funny. You're not.

You kinda wrong partner, I DID enjoy the uncensored comedy that USED to be on XMComedy(ch. 150) and it was actually one of my favorite preset channels untill the total gutting of that channel when "RawDog" replaced it. Only thing is those comedians were funny. Maybe that will dispell your incorrect profile of me. What little I've heard Stern years ago on terra or O&A a few times on XM ain't nothing but a bunch of BS.

Unfortunately you miss my main point which is SatRad was growing at a good steady AFFORDABLE rate untill both companies got stupid and tried to grow too fast and laid out big bucks they didn't have to get these "mega-persoanlities" and sports channels on without covering the costs appropiately. Again, I cared not a whit when someone paid an extra $1.99 for these slugs. However I DO care when a company I have invested money in and have subscribed to since 2002 starts to roll their shows in to the general subscription price and shells out good money to these buttwipes.

My kids are grown too and I'm working on rebuilding a 1973 Yamaha CT-3 so yeah, we're kinda alike. I just don't want my good money subsidizing personalities/programs that are bleeding this company dry.

o and a came on in the fall of 2004, by the spring of 2005 they were off of the premium plan. The only reason they were on the premium plan was because the suits were concerned of what they were going to do, not to help pay for them. I personally think mlb was and is a larger waste of money, the cost of which was driven up due to competition between satrad companies. I have no idea what o and a get but i am sure that it is nowhere near howies salary which even i believe is crazy. I do not think that o and a are the reason for the financial troubles of xm, blame as i said mlb, oprah, nascar, ect. I may be wronge but it seems to me that your dislike of some shows may be clouding your judgement. Personally i believe that overall mis-management had alot more to do with the current situation than anything else. However neither of us are privy to the inner ongoings of the satrad industry and are merely guessing at what the problems are, if you and I put our heads together I am sure we could solve all the problems and make satrad profitable. After that maybe we could head over to the middle east and fix their problems. P.S. know anything about rebuilding a 318.

Well like I said, all of those "mega-personalities" have contributed to the bottom line's steady decline as well as paying mega-bucks for premium sports without charging extra. I've had DirecTV since 1983 and you know as well as I that you have to pay extra for NFL,MLB,NBA,NASCAR(I think),etc packages as well as other sports packages.

No I don't think my dislike of non-creative slugs who rely on gags that you expect from a junior high kid or body fluid/cavity jokes has anything to do with my opinion of the financial doings of what USED to be a top notch broadcasting medium except for paying them way too much money. Again, pay them a percentage of commercial revenues and premium fees.

Middle East huh?? Funny you should mention that...

Yom Kippur War alert: Oct 1973 (82nd Abn 1972 - 1974)
Gulf I: Saudia Arabia (Spring 1993)
Gulf II: Kuwait,Iraq,Afghanistan,Quatar,Uzbeckistan(2002,2003-2004,2005)

55 years old and still in (reservist since 1988)with 2 more years to go.

Yep, been there got the t-shirts to prove it.

Basically don't play cards with anyone who deals from the bottom of the deck & is a known cheat = Middle East problem solved.

Rebuilding Chrysler 318?? Good small block, go to Advance Auto and buy a rebuilt one or get one from Jasper unless you've got all the tools and a good engine stand. That's why I stick to small motorcycles now!!!

Simply stated, it is hard to take your concerns about certain talk shows seriuosly when you refer to them as such things as SLUGS. This shows that you have a bias against them, even though there are many who enjoy their shows.

As far as your comments with regards to direct tv, they to have alot of (expensive) shows that would easily fit into the type of show that you would refer to as SLUGS, that you do not pay extra for. You may enjoy shows that I believe are a waste of money, but I would not want those to be separate from the rest.

If it were not for o and a I would NOT be a subscriber to xm, would I pay a premium, probably, but alot of those who listen would not.

As far as the middle east, it was a joke, something not to be taken seriously, an attempt at humor (maybe not a good one). Dialogue on subjects like this are important and I appreciate you continued response to my comments. You will continue to hate the shows I enjoy and I will continue to argue for the diversity in all programming.

As far as the 318, I prefer to rebuild it because as a project car I believe it is important that my sons learn all aspects of it.

P.S. Although I am Canadian I do appreciate Your Military service to your country, and yes I know your service even has benefits for myself and my family.

Obviously our points & tastes concerning radio "personalities" who engage in base/sophmoric attempts at humor differ. I quit listening to "slugs" like that on terra radio years ago even without them approaching near the level of Stern,O&A,"Bubba",etc. That being stated, that is what the channel & on/off controls are for(and the MAIN reason I jumped onboard the XM train years ago). I happen to like Dennis Miller on HBO. Guess what?? I pay for PREMIUM services on DirecTV to hear his rants. I like Richard Pryor(who I miss) & Lewis Black (who I never heard on "RawDog" - which I admit I have basically quit tuning to because the programming is LOUSY),guess what? I pay extra to see them when they are featured on PREMIUM uncensored services like HBO,Showtime,Cinemax, etc,. Guess we'll just have to leave it there.

Ending on a positive note..

I took no offense to your remark about the Middle East. After being directly involved in 3 Middle East wars (and studying the Yom Kippur war at length) I can assure you that my simple comparison of the situation in the Middle East is truly how I feel and is a result of many years of reflection. I have had the honor of competing against Canadian Armed Forces in marksmanship competition and associated with a small number of them in Afghanistan. I have nothing but good to say about those guys. I have had the pleasure of staying overnight a number of times on St. John's Island in Newfoundland while on military duty and really love the Maritime Provinces. The residents of St. John's Island are some of the friendliest I've ever run into and I was pleasently surprised on the Celtic influence I found there.

Speaking of Celtic subjects, can't recall hearing Loreena McKinnet on "Spa", or anywhere on SiriusXM (unless someone informs me otherwise).

Re: 318 rebuild = Self-sufficiency is always a good thing.

what a fucking joke. go suck a dick everyone

I use to listen to Howard Stern and then I started listening to Michael Savage. You would think that would be a big jump but I did it. Michael Savage is the best and most entertaining talk show out there!

Even if you are a liberal you need to listen to him!

with a list like that I bet all they do is put names on a board and through darts at it. MANCOW IN THE TOP 10 WHAT THE FUCK? Maybe the top 10 worst show ever

Thanks Dick,

You said it all, THE SHOW SUCKS!

P.S. GAK GAK GAK!!!!
