Talkers Magazine every year comes out the with their "Heavy Hundred" list of talk radio hosts, and two of satellite radio most listened to talkers are in the top 20.
Last year Howard was #1 (even from "outer space") and this year he dropped down to #12 - a point that David Hinckley found to be very important. Still, Talkers refers to Stern as "the original hot talk superstar" and "the face of satellite talk entertainment."
Meanwhile Opie & Anthony have made the jump to #6 (I don't even think they were on the list last year). Talkers calls them the "leaders of the new generation of hot talk" and as "satellite pioneers now in national syndication."
Also of note, Neil Boortz ranked as #9, and Rusty Humphries placed #41.

This list is so absurd. Dopie and Aint Funny get NO RATINGS. Stern completely saved a whole company. And Rush gets those ratings in afternoon drive. He's never done what Stern did in the morning, which is flat out dominate.
Oh no Ryan. What were you thinking posting this???
Its gonna get ugly real fast.
"Howard is better"
"No, O&A are better"
"shut up fag"
"couldnt argue without namecalling douchebag?"
"EVERYONE SHUT UP"
"Howard is better"
There, now you dont have to do it.
Even worse...the Bubba fanboy (singular) will come out as well!
No wait I got more for you Mark
Woo Woo I invented everything!
O and Gay!
Stern is a hasbeen
O&A are hacks
Stern lost 80% of his audience
O&A terrestrial ratings suck
ahhhh im glad I got it out of my system. Now that thats done:
FFRRRAAAANNNKKUUUUSSSSSSSS!!!!!!
Stern drops to # 12 ? LOL
Opie and Anthony rule.
WOW one guy saves a company the other guys cannot get regular radio ratings, cannot support a 1.99 sub fee, and are nobodies outside of NY..
hmm, someone is pissed at howard.....lol
Nice job b-b-boys!
Also of note, King Kullen himself was number 78.
I'm really considering doing an official "Orbitcast 100" of completely subjective selections. Of course, Neil Boortz would have to place #1 because I just like to say his name.
"Boortz"
I admit I'm no Stern fan, but Mancow is listed above Howard in this list? That doesn't even pass the straight-face test. As much as I love O&A, it's hard to take a list seriously that puts Mancow ahead of Howard.
Although I expected a decline in howards ranking.. I most definitly did not expect O&A to be that high. I really would like to know what data they used to rank this year.
Stern has destroyed an entire industry. First he bankrupt Sirius. If you think they would want a merger of equals when they are doing so "well" you're nuts. All Stern successed in doing is siphoning off enough potential XM subs to keep Sirius alive long enough to put them in position to merge. So now we are where we are. A potential merger and the end of sat radio as we know it. Bring on the commercials Mel. We all know that's what you do. You're not a radio guy, you're an ad guy.
Then please please stop coming to this site pfreak if sat. radio is finished. the crazy ad man mel seems to have the only sat. radio company with all commercial free music. these rankings are amazing. is jay thomas on the list?
"Stern has destroyed an entire industry. First he bankrupt Sirius"
LOL yea because without stern we would have had a bankrupt sirius anyway and a single XM runing the show with no real content except music.
Stern put SatRadio on the map even you are not dumb enough to not admit this.
". So now we are where we are. A potential merger and the end of sat radio as we know it. "
Yep so turn in your sub now, hurry maybe you can get 20 bucks for the hardware too on ebay.
PFreak you are like most XMfan's you don't want the merger because you know its not going to be a merger of equals. stock wise it sure is on paper 50-50 but lets be real, SIRI mgt will run the show and you watch these XM guys bail out with stock in hand one by one. Stern will rule the talk shows and put O&A back on the leash (600m vs 1m? you tell me who will be on howard 101 lol).
guess you really cant see that neither of these companies will make it past 2 years alone with contracts coming up for re-negotiations they cannot afford another bidding war. this alone will push prices higher.
OH BTW you might worry about a monopoly but this at this point is as close as you can get, either party can raise prices right now 2 bucks and the other party will IMMEDIATLY raise prices too. its just a matter of who blinks first. and if this merger does not go through you can bet Siri will raise them and XM will follow and you will be paying 20% more for nothing. at least if they raise prices after the merger there is still a chance you will get something more out of it.
Sorry shitdick, I've always contended that Howard put Sirius on the map but look at the price all sat radio subscribers are now paying. You seem to think that Sirius is taking over XM. Not true. Mel is CEO, Gary is head of the fucking board. He can have Mel thrown out on his ass. Hugh is gone but Gary is Mel's boss. If you want to control costs, get rid of the billion dollar man. For what he makes, he doesn't bring in anywhere near the subs. As I said, if Sirius could stop their out of control spending, neither company would need the merger. Sirius needs it just as much as XM. Sirius is not in a good position despite your ramblings. And your hero is going to be just as irrelevant in a post merger as he is today. It's not even that no one is listening anymore, no one cares.
I don't want the merger because it's going to be bad for the consumer. Sirius music fans should love the deal, you'll actually be getting some deep playlists rather than commercial free FM playlists, but true music lovers know we could be getting spoonfed the same shit music that we abandoned regular radio for, that's what Sirius offers.
PFreak theres a better chance of you getting laid then Sirius/XM firing Howad.
This is not about Howard Sterns or Opie and Anthony. This should be about US the customers. I have XM radio and I like it alot, but I fell the price is to expensive. I guess if you want it you have to pay for it. My biggest concern is if Mel is going to run both radio businesses into the ground. Oh by the way, not to get in a poop storm----Howard Stern did not put SatRadio on the map.
>>"I really would like to know what data they used to rank this year."
I'm assuming the answer would be "None".
Mike, I think you're right about the criteria used in the rankings. It looks like a bunch of "really smart" people sat around a desk and picked names out of a hat. Any list that would include Martha (I went to Iraq) Zoller is a joke. This woman averages less than 5 callers per show and is known as the biggest 'suck up" on radio. It'a apparent that the people who put this list togather have never heard her show. I've never heard a radio host use the words "er & uh" so much in a 2 1/2 hr. show. She sounds like a first year journalism student, not a veteran broadcaster.
Talk radio is dominated by loudmouth perverts and neocons, or do I repeat myself? It is an open sewer of lies and disinformation. In short, talk radio sucks.
