The Motley Fool's article last week on "Why Satellite Radio Will Fail" now has a counterpart, appropriately entitled "Why Satellite Radio Will Succeed." And if you're a regular reader here, you can take an easy guess as to which one I prefer.
Not just because it's pro-satrad, but because the reasoning is far more educated and logical. The original article on why the medium will fail was based on a single person's opinion ("it sucks"), and one who obviously had a limited exposure to the entire medium.
This second verdict on satellite radio gives a nod toward the "different channels for different people" thought. Sorry Rich Duprey (author of the first article), the world doesn't revolve around you.
Yes, some DJs are chatty - but the author of the counter-article, Rick Aristotle Munarriz, points out that some channels are almost completely void of DJs, while other DJs are completely captivating adding to the overall experience. He successfully argues the other complaints as well (about spotty coverage and limited playlists).
Munarriz also brings to light one of the major reasons why satellite radio will succeed: the on-air personalities.
"There is a reason why Stern moved to Sirius and Oprah Winfrey went to XM. Satellite radio is the only talk format that can pay their salaries. Sure, syndication through terrestrial radio works for many mainstream celebrities, but what about the future?"
It's an article well worth reading, and if you feel so inclined, you should give it a recommendation so we can show the Motley Fool exactly which opinion is the popular one.

now that's a good article.
i liked what he had to say about the stations.
i never had a problem with the dj's on sirius
well cabbie on faction. but besides that
would we ever get a show like fangoria radio
bob dylan on regular radio .dont think so
long live sat.radio.
For the pests (all 2 of them) before they even start about those no talent noncelebrity hacks that XM scraped the bottom of the barrel for....
ZERO POINT ZERO
Thats why Sirius is buying out XM.
sternfan74: just go away.
sternfan74 would be so cool if i was in junior high. just like howard.
there is a sternfan 74!
i feel honored.
"Thats why Sirius is buying out XM."
Hey sternfan74, when did Sirius announce that they are now going to buy XM because I must have missed that announcement.
It is true, Sirius is acquiring XM.
Jesus butt-f***ing Christ, will you people stop with the ZERO POINT HOOHOO posts already?
Sirius is aquiring XM? When did this happen? Last I heard it was an even stock exchange w/XM heading the board.
Have a hard time staying on the post subject at hand guys?
Ryan: Glad you posted both sides. Sadly, there are SOME points to both articles that I agree with. Satellite does need some improvement, but overall, it still crushes terrestrial into the ground.
Will it crush HD? If many HD stations carry the sub-bands with commercial free music, sports and comedy, then time will tell.
