The Hispanic Federation (HF), one of the nation's largest Latino advocacy organizations, today joined a number of prominent groups in supporting the merger of Sirius and XM.
"We encourage actions that will provide our community with the benefits of competition, lower prices and more choices in a fair and equitable manner," said Lillian Rodriguez-Lopez, Hispanic Federation President. "We believe that the XM-Sirius merger will achieve these objectives and as such, we urge the Federal Communications Commission to grant a speedy approval."
The main gripe from the Hispanic Federation? Consolidation terrestrial radio. Large nationwide radio companies (like Clear Channel, who owns over 1,000 radio stations nationwide) has left minorities out of the programming loop.
"For the most part, the mainstream media companies offer very limited music and entertainment programming targeted to the Hispanic community," added Ms. Rodriguez-Lopez. "We believe that satellite radio provides expanding and vibrant platforms for news and entertainment for Hispanic Americans."
This adds one more name to the list of supportive organizations. Whether or not this is an attempt to pander towards the FCC's initiative to improve diversity in media is unknown, but as the Lasar Letter points out, "nobody's forcing these groups to support the merger."

How many spanish stations are they looking for? total domination of the airwaves? In the NY listening area there seem to be more latino/hispanic programming then rock/rap/pop/easy listening is. Hence the reason for my being a satellite subscriber.
Thats OK CJ, if the merger happens and Xirius exponentially increases its Spanish-language programming you still have the "choice" of listening to your local Spanish-dominated stations!
Less choices=more choices!!!!!!
...and isn't it amazing how when the NAB pulls strings and puts out biased reports, Ryan jumps all over them.
But of course we ALL KNOW that all of these individual groups just HAPPENED to sequentially put out press releases all essentially stating the SAME THING on their own. XM and Sirius CERTAINLY weren't pulling any strings, right?
And if you did question them, would they be sending web traffic to your site?

Unles... you know something we don't. I'm sure if you had any information about busting these groups, you have the ability to post it.
I actually would totally bust any of these orgs if I found dirt on them.
Having Sirius/XM link to Orbitcast makes me happy, sure. But, not for nothing - I get 10x more traffic when I write something that's AGAINST the companies. That's just the reality of it.
SteveWeBB have you read the NAB newsletter lately? You think they link to articles that go against their objectives?
Welcome to the real world kiddo.
Last I checked, this website was pro-satrad. So then its pro-merger. There's plenty of Radio Rags out there to promote the NAB's agenda.
Jose can you see, by the don's early blight, what so ... yaaawwwnn.. what time is it?? yep, time to turn another page on the "Who are this organization" book... Let's see, Hispanic Federation... Cool logo, lots of thaught.. Either a puke stain or somebody had a wet fart.. Hmmm
