"The History of Howard Stern" on Sirius
We learned about this last month when Howard was featured in an AP story, but now Sirius has released more details on the upcoming "History of Howard Stern" special.
Set to debut on December 17th at 6am ET on Howard 100 and 6am PT on Howard 101, the epic series will air through December 21st.
Act I, entitled "The Early Years," spans Howard's birth through his days at WNNNNBC Radio in NYC. Act I will debut in five separate original parts, with one installment airing each day that week and replaying continuously all day and night.
"The History of Howard Stern" features a vast array of rare, never- before heard audio footage from Howard's personal vault plus interviews and commentary from Howard, Stern Show staff, friends, family, and former colleagues. Celebrities will also partake in the enjoyment, including a rare interview with legendary late night host, David Letterman. Other entertainers and Howard fans who contributed interviews include Foo Fighters' Dave Grohl, Jimmy Kimmel, Joe Walsh, Dee Snider, David Brenner and more.
"It's a complete retrospective of stuff you've never heard -- every piece of history of this show," said Stern. "'The History of Howard Stern' is an incredible listening experience. It's the kind of radio that competes with television and that you'd never hear on terrestrial radio."
Act II will pick up as Howard begins his legendary run at K-ROCK.
Encore broadcasts of Act I of "The History of Howard Stern" will air multiple times, including the weekends of December 22nd-23rd and December 29th-30th on Howard 100.
Check out the History of Howard Stern for more info (which includes a pretty cool interactive timeline).

In my opinion, he's earned every vacation. Most DJ's get months, if not years off when they get fired for lame bits. I, like most of the fans, am quite happy with what Howard has brought to Sirius.
How's that (ehem) "uncensored" radio that XM offers?

Apparently Laptop Gamer never cared about grammar or spelling at school. You should have your hands cut off for your horrible attempts to communicate.
I'd love to see the history of O&A. It would be this show, and them just lapping at Howard's ass for their talent and bitching about him ripping them off. Hoo Hoo, I invented chicks on Sybian's, while ya'll invented ghey radio with pornstars who can't even get each other off, let alone get penetrated by an actual man. Jesus they couldn't even get a dildo or strapon going. WOW THAT IS COMPELLING RADIO! ALMOST COMPELLLING ENOUGH FOR A PODCAST!! Tell 'em Fred.
Posted by: Anonymous Coward | December 7, 2007 11:51 AM
Actually JJJ that worked out quite well for me when O&A got suspended as I got 2 free months of XM.
XM now knows better then to get scared and censure people.
By the way XM ROCKS & WILL NEVER MERGE WITH SIRIUS|!!!!!!

I wonder if he'll just rewrite history and leave Allison out of it.

See, this is the difference between O&A fans and the Stern fans - Stern fans seem to know *exactly* what's going on over at XM at any given time, while I've yet to meet a hardcore O&A listener who knows (or cares) what Howard does on a daily basis.

Anonymous Coward,
Do you really have nothing better to do than troll Orbitcast and lick Howard's balls? I listen to both Howard and O&A (neither compare to Ron & Fez) and the shows aren't all that similar, despite what you think. What talent are O&A 'lapping at Howard's ass' over? Last I remember, Jim Norton, Bill Burr, Patrice Oneal, Rich Vos, etc were never on Howard's show. If you are talking about Colin Quinn or Dave Attel, those guys do every radio show in the country so they aren't Howard's talent.
If you aren't talking about talent in regards to guests, where do you draw these similarities between the shows? There aren't many. O&A don't use a Sybian on their show, Howard doesn't use a wiffle ball bat on his show. I also don't remember a girl getting penetrated by a man on Howard's show either. However, Jay Mohr, Jim Norton, NoFilterPaul, and BIG A have all had some type of interaction with girls in studio (Jim and Jay may not have been on air at the time but the others were).
As for the strap-on thing, that was a disappointment and XM really dropped the ball by not allowing it to happen. In regards to that, you listen to/know a lot about O&A for someone who 'hates' the show. If you hate O&A that much, why do you listen to the show? As I said, I listen to Howard, O&A, and Ron and Fez. I don't like Bubba or Ferral so I don't listen to them. Despite the fact that I don't like them, I don't have knowledge to talk shit about them because I don't listen to their shows.
You really need to get a life, bro.
Posted by: Butt Dumpling | December 7, 2007 12:05 PM
I only listen to them because my overweight loser boss who happens to also live in his parents basement since his wife kicked him out listens to this horrible show all day long at work. I am kind of stuck, and whenever I take my headphones off from listening to Howard, I'm forced to listen to their awful hacky radio bits. Sorry if I'm a little bitter, but I have grown up listening to quality radio from Howard and now picked up Bubba, but then having to hear about these pieces of shit day in and day out from my boss is unconscionable. I find the best place to vent here, as that tasteless sack of shit known as my boss can fire me.

0.0,
Why are you petty enough to get defensive over hair plugs? Regardless of whether Howard has them or not, you are making yourself look ridiculous by doing anything possible to kiss Howard's ass.
You people do realize that these are radio shows, right? Howard, Opie, and Anthony are not your real life friends or family members so why not just leave each other alone. We get it, Howard fans don't like O&A and O&A fans don't like Howard.
The two shows don't even mention each other anymore, so why are you guys e-fighting? Chances are that they are all going to be working for the same company soon and they aren't going to bitch about it, because both shows are there to make money - that's it.
I read this site every day and just decided to speak for once. I like both shows but the bullshit of you guys fighting over which show is better completely ruins any enjoyment that you can have from listening to the shows or even reading about news in the satellite radio world.
Both shows are where they are for a reason, they are both HIGHLY talented and work very hard to make something that an audience will latch onto. I know that you guys won't admit that about both shows because you want to hold out hope that your show is better but you all know the truth. No matter how much Stern fans trash O&A, the show is one of the top shows in the country - that's why they have been in the NY market and now XM for so long. No matter how much O&A fans trash Stern, the show is one of the top shows in the country as well - a legendary run at KRock and now Sirius.
Neither show cares if you are flaming each other's comments on Orbitcast, so why bother?

Hey look at it this way. They'll actually be playing some Howard worth listening to for once. Also, constantly throwing jabs at the other show no matter what side you're on won't change the other people's mind. You're talking to a brick wall. Now if you like talking to brick walls just keep right on doing that. You can listen to either Howard or O & A while you do so. and as for O & A mentioning Howard, even *that* has become a bit. of course, you Stern fans know that because you listen to every minute of every day of O & A despite how much you claim to hate them. As for anonymous Coward. quit your job. After all, you'd rather work for a company that supports the King. We all know you would. The only person that gets off on seing your posts here is you. You've made your point. Now SHUT THE FUCK UP!!!!

To be fair, O&A were only kicked out of Philly because of Opie's fight with management. The numbers came out and they were fairly good.

Wrong dude. I'm not even that big of a Howard fan, but that incident you're referring was months before he was fired from DC. The bridge incident was 1-13-82. He wasn't fired until June.

All us 'loads'...?
We know Howard's work schedule because seemingly every Friday, his fans come out of the woodwork and tune in to O&A to check out the competition.
I'm not denying I used to listen to him when he was on terrestrial, but that was only before O&A came to NY and during the time when O&A were off the air because of 'Sex for Sam'.
And I've also stopped on his PPV show which is shown for free on HD and turns out he's still doing the EXACT SAME STUFF as he used to do on terrestrial. Porn stars on sybians, evaluating women's bodies for Playboy, etc, etc.
Ad infinitum. I just don't see the appeal.

Posted by: Hoo Hoo | December 8, 2007 7:30 AM
tune in to O&A to check out the competition
Let's get something absolutely straight: O.O are by no stretch of the imagination "competition" to Howard Stern. Those two second-rate Morning Zoo lightweights aren't even close to being in Stern's league as entertainers or cultural forces, nor will they ever be. They just swim in a sea of thousands of other mediocre radio hacks who wish they were as successful as Stern. They are the Monkees to Stern's Beatles, ever desperately trying to clone his accomplishments.
So let's not pretend that these comment exchanges are somehow about a battle of equals. That's downright laughable. Gregg & Tony are just a couple of pimples on the ass of radio history who Howard rarely bothers to even think about, despite what the deluded and self-important b-b-b-boys will have you think. Sure, a marginal handful of their sheep-like followers may have swallowed their K0.0l-Aid, but most people just take it as a given that Zero & Zero are nowhere near Stern's level.
Just ask yourself these questions:
- Who has had the greatest impact on terrestrial radio?
- Who had (by far) greater ratings on terristrial radio?
- Who has had (and still has) the greatest impact on satellite radio?
- Who has (by far) brought more listeners to satellite radio?
- Who has had (by far) the greatest overall impact on Americal culture?
Case Closed, and Game Over.

I just love how Howard fans accuse OnA fans of spitting back things that are supposedly said by OnA and are told to get a life and think for yourselves, blah blah blah. Yet, all Howie fans do are call them clones, call them 0.0 and bring up how they are getting dropped from stations because of miserable ratings. All things that Howie says on air and all are mostly false. Hey Kettle.....you're black!
They were NEVER 0.0. period. Only in Howard's mind
They lost a few stations...1 or 2 were because of ratings (which has happened to Howard MANY times...including Dallas where OnA lost it too) all the other stations did format changes to sports, spanish or 'family friendly' broadcasting.
To call them 'clones' is the ultimate ignorance because they are NOTHING like Howard other than being dirty. Using that logic, Howard is a clone of Imus and the shock jocks that came before him. In case you didn't know, Howard wasn't the first...though he'd like you to believe that.

You MUST be kidding. Did you actually ever hear Imus before Howard came on the scene? His show never came even remotely close to the kind of innovation Stern brought to radio. Pre-Stern, Imus's show consisted of quacking ducks, bad Nixon impressions, and unfunny bits like "Reverend Billy Sol Hargus" - with some occasional, and very mild, sexual innuendo thrown in. There was no "reality radio" aspect, no "show about the show" structure to it whatsoever. Stern was THE FIRST to bring listeners behind the scenes of the show, and of his life, to such a degree. And THIS (not dirty jokes) is what changed radio - and entertainment culture - forever.
This is also what Clonie & Wannabe, along with thousands of other radio hacks, have tried to duplicate as some kind of radio format formula. But there can only ever be one original. Hoo Hoo, did Howard invent it? Indeed he did. Tell 'em, Fred.

But now, in a deftly executed comic plot twist, here comes the ~killer~ punchline: I'm already sucking your "ass"!!

Have you ever noticed that Ryan never contributes to these constant back and forth slug fests? and I got news for y'all. Steve Dahl was really the one who started the idea of using characters and bringing the listener behind-the-scenes of the show I.e. fights with the PD over content, talking to his wife on the air although Howard never did that I don't think? He did talk to his parents though, which Dahl also did on many occasions. So Howard didn't invent all this *all* by himself. Yes, he took it to other levels and probably did things that O & A/Dahl and Mayer in Chicago never did, or any other host for that matter. But you guys who worship Howard need to realize that he's not the inventer of everything in his style of radio. Yes, he did a lot of things to innovate. No denying that. He took morning radio to a whole new level, and yes, he was very strong in a lot of markets. But don't forget early 2004? Remember that? Howard got taken off a lot of the clear channel stations because of his stance against President Bush if memory serves. It also didn't help that the whole wardrobe malfunction thing happened and everyone was freaking about indecency on the radio and tv as well. So Howard isn't above a bit of criticism. I've listened to both Howard and O & A. and I've listened enough to know who I prefer. I think Howard isn't really doing much to innovate on his show on Sirius. Just cause he's on Sirius doesn't make him innovative. He can get away with a lot more than O & A can in their first 3 hours of their show, but beyond that, I don't really see him bringing much to the Sirius airwaves that hasn't been heard before. and that thing about O & A being morning zoo hacks? People, get your facts straight. Those hacky bits they do are to make fun of the hacky bits that other morning shows do, to show how incredibly stupid those bits are. It's certainly not the way I would handle it, if I was a morning host, I would do things differently, but with them being so locked into only being able to do certain things on the CBS show, their hands are pretty much tied. But when you hear them do hacky bits, remember that, in itself, is a bit.

This thread stinks. Why wasnt there a post about the 59 dollar INNO on woot!? Does that mean Ryan is supporting Sirius? News at Eleven.

"Just cause he's on Sirius doesn't make him innovative. He can get away with a lot more than O & A can in their first 3 hours of their show"
whos fault is that?the exact reason howard left regular radio on his OWN TERMS...unlike the two cunts that ran back to it thinking they were going to be the new kings of morning drive only to fail miserably...
if i was a XM sub and a my sole reason on getting it was for 0.0,id be quite pissed and feel cheated that a service im paying for is being given away for free on FM

Now why would anyone be stupid enough to by XM just so they can listen to O & A exclusively? I subscribed a whole year before O & A came around and I found out how cool XM was, and still is. It's like you people, or one guy posting under several different names thinks that there's only one channel on each of these services. Flip around to the different channels for a while and listen to some music. Howard and O & A seem to be cutting off the flow of oxygen to your brain. A steady diet of them is generally a bad idea. I listen to O & A, but I also listen to lots of other XM stations, because I like the music that's on them. You know what they say about Variety.

"This is also what Clonie & Wannabe, along with thousands of other radio hacks, have tried to duplicate as some kind of radio format formula. But there can only ever be one original. Hoo Hoo, did Howard invent it? Indeed he did. Tell 'em, Fred."
I see what you did there! You substituted Opie and Anthony's name for Clonie and Wannabe! Goddamnit that's funny stuff right there!!! LOL! LOL! LOL! LOL! LOL! LOL! LOL! LOL! Do you have your own radio show or something, because if not, you should!

If its interesting, why not just work it into the regular shows? Otherwise I"d rather hear more Mastertape Theatre on his days off.

Way to post there three times there, Pete Persistent.....
Did you know that it takes more muscles to frown than it does to smile? I was one told this by an aging hooknose radio shock jock that turned into everyone he used to make fun of and tried to cling on to the audience he used to have by playing hacky prank phone calls and using an outside service named electriceelman.com to try to be relevant?
