CBGBThe legendary NYC rock club, CBGB, is hosting its final performance ever and SIRIUS Satellite Radio is broadcasting it live on SIRIUS Disorder (ch 24). Patti Smith who first played CBGB in February 1975, will be aired live on Disorder at 9pm ET, on Sunday October 15th.

The famed club is closing following unsuccessful rent negotiations with its landlord. News of its demise prompted worldwide press coverage and sparked several campaigns to save the musical landmark. Tickets to the October 15 final show with Smith were sold out in 8 minutes, according to CBGB’s founder and owner, Hilly Kristal.

For over 33 years many thousands of music lovers have flocked to the Bowery bar that became famous as the birthplace of American punk music. Originally intended to present country, bluegrass and blues music shows (which is what CBGB stands for), the club became known for pioneering performances by New York rock and punk acts including Smith, Television, Blondie and The Ramones, to name a few.

Even though I haven't been there in 15 years, I'm still gonna miss CBGB.

Yet another nail in NYC's coffin. Last one out closes the door and pays $2 Million for a one bedroom in Harlem!

:(

So much music history, sad to see it go. Good thing that it is being covered by sat radio (although I wish it were in XM so I could listen).
