The Sirius XM Booth (or lack of) at CES 2009

Sirius XM at CES 2009And there it is. Sirius XM Radio's booth at CES 2009. It's not a booth at all actually, it's just private meeting space. Yet another sign of stringent cost cutting measures being put into effect.

...WTF!

Any banners outside ?

Sirius sold off 4166 shares of 12 cent stock to buy that $500 display.

Well....a bigger sign would have been nice but I didnt expect anything this year.

Good. They need to cut costs. More debt-ridden companies in this country should use this as an example.

Hmm... what goes on in those booths? Are they interegating customers? Brainwashing them? What goes on in there? Ryan give us more pictures! The public needs to know!

Is that Bubba's new portable studio?

They belong outside on the sidewalk in with the guys snapping the stripper ads at you...

I intially thought they were the rest rooms

Now that's sad

that's the way it should be...

There is nothing new to show this year so what's the point of wasting $$$ on a useless display.

Good call SiriusXM!!

That is just sad.

I like it. It looks like a mens and womens bathroom, so I can imagine a lot of people might try to go in there after lunch. I hope nobody takes a dump on the floor.

Ryan forgot to mention that the booth also doubles as the men's and women's rest rooms and as the hotel room for the company representatives.

Yeah that booth cost $500. Have you ever seen the costs of putting up booth space in a large convention center. Isn't Vegas a union town? I have seen conventions where it would be cheaper to install a vehicle lift than it would be to set one up at a tradeshow for a couple of days.

What's that sir you need to plug your computer into that power outlet right there? Hold on I will get someone to do that for you. Crooks.

@Anonymous (or at least the previous one)

Those probably are the rest rooms. The budget forced them to rent those out and use stalls as individual meeting rooms. The over-sized handicapped room? That's the conference room.

Why have a booth when the companies making and distributing your product have booths. Sounds kind of redundant. And who's to say that SiriusXM is not putting ad money or something towards their partners booths. It happens all the time.

Damn doesn't anyone hear work in an industry that goes to trade shows or has their partners partially pay for booth space at shows? That is the way it works.

Sorry but that local lawn and garden show that john deere doesn't display at but his local distributor does is definitely partially paid for by corporate. That is not what I do for a living but that is the way it works.

Yeah. I go to NAB every year and have talked to some of the vendors we work with about the troubles they have at the LVCC. Especially the first day, everyone's got power and data problems, their badge scanners don't work (so they're losing out on business leads) and nobody can get them to come fix the problems. And don't try sneaking anything into your own booth, like a box of flyers or anything. Have to let the union boys transport that for ya. I've even heard of winners of prizes being harassed by the exhibition company employees accusing them of sneaking materials in or out instead of letting them do it.

If you'd fart in that space , you would gas yourself .

bubba's new booth...good one

Ahh, how the mighty have fallen. Yes, someone mentioned that the partners were doing the advertising for them. Nope. Not this year. They are too busy releasing products that compete with Sat radio, like the internet car radio, and Ford Sync's traffic system.

Where's the big push from Audiovox? Nothing? Crickets?

What about GM, certainly THEY have a big Sirius XM thing going on right now, right? Wait, they are not talking about satelite radio EITHER? But I thought it was the "best radio on radio" that was supposed to sell all those cars on dealer lots?

The sub numbers will be cooked again this year. Sad, it could have been something great. Instead, we are looking at the next "BetaMax" before our very eyes.

The one product they release is the RC that gets both XM and Sirius spectrum. Thats a huge selling point since they are 90% similar now, and will likely approach 99% after the next channel update.

How about posting pictures from previous CES conventions for comparison?

Excuse me, I'd like to try on these pants - but the door is locked. No problem sir; I'll be right back with the key, and then you can go in there and try on those slacks. Remember - only one article of clothing at a time! I'll be right back.

Those badge scanners are really expensive and do not work at any booth or show I have been to at least the companies that even pay to have them.

That's actually not a booth but the prototype model of the Satellite Radio with FCC mandated HDRadio included...
