Tom Brady "suspension" causes drama for Opie & Anthony

Tom BradyOh geez. XM Satellite Radio's Opie and Anthony aired a fake news story yesterday that New England Patriots superstar Tom Brady was suspended for steroid use.

Sadly, some people didn't get that it was fake.

According to the Boston Herald, "a number" of fans called the newspaper's sports department to inquire about the story. And yesterday morning apparently the phrase “Tom Brady Suspended” was the most-searched topic on Google for a while.

The New England Patriots are reportedly upset over the ordeal according to one of the Herald's sources.

“The team is not happy,” said the Herald source. “And they let that be known. But at the same time they want this to go away and not become any more than it already is.”

Patriots spokesperson Stacey James declined to comment other than to say that “we’ve notified our legal department.” Supposedly, the Pats received calls from media outlets and fans who believed the report was true.

But it was all part of Opie & Anthony's "Make Stuff Up Tuesday" where listeners call in with ideas for silly news stories, and O&A "report" on it on-air.

Perhaps this whole ridiculous thing could be explained best by XM spokesperson Nathaniel Brown:

“It was clear to anyone who listens to the show that it was a gag,” said Brown. “They actually build the story with the listeners and anyone who is familiar with the show knows the routine - it’s all made up.”

Some people just need to linger longer.

Notifying their legal department? They said it was a bit at the start of the show. It's not their fault people are dopes.

You'd think they wouldve learned from the Boston mayor issue

But it was all part of Opie & Anthony's "Make Stuff Up Tuesday" where listeners call in with ideas for silly news stories, and O&A "report" on it on-air.

those wacky and wild guys are just to crazy for me

and they wonder why people don't like them.

Boston has to be the most gullible city on the planet. First the Aqua Teen lite brites, then the MIT chick with the circuit board hoodie, and now this. Nervous nellies there. The whole city is filled with people who don't know fiction from reality and overreact to everything. "We're contacting our lawyers." How about you keep slabs of concrete from killing commuters and shut up. It was a dumb gag about a stupid football player, not the end of the world.

“It was clear to anyone who listens to the show that it was a gag,” said Brown.

Exactly. Nobody listens, therefore nobody knew it was a gag. OnA reported the story to the Boston media themselves.

I don't care who you are, that's funny right there.

I don't care who you are, that's funny right there.

Leave O&A ALOOOOOOONE!!!!

Who the fuck are these people.

RThe original article written by Gayle Fee. And the station's spokesman is named Chachi Loprete.
Linger longer!

We all hate them but love to talk about them. And know all about them. Weird.
Stern sucks, Artie is a fat bastard and Robin should have died decades ago.

You really gotta love Boston~!

WOWWEE, THATS FUNNY STUFF

I DO listen to O&A, and I didn't realize it was a fake story. Because it's credible, and people tend to believe what's on the radio if it's framed as "the news".

What I thought was funny is that they were planning this whole thing on the air before the 7 oclock hour. I don't think people need to linger longer but instead linger earlier. And this is different from the Mayor issue they did before because they said openly on the air that it was fake before they reported the Brady story and with the Mayor story no one knew it was fake before hand.

I'm not a fan of any of the "shock jocks", but when I first heard about this bit, I had to admit it was a little bit funny. Lighten up, Pats!

I heard on the radio martians are invading the earth! Run for your lives!

I look at it this way

I go to O&A for the jokes not the news
I go to CNN for the news not the jokes. Even thou they have become a joke.

Get a f'n life, it a radio show, not fox news channel!

"Make Stuff Up Tuesday"

gotta love wacky, zany morning zoo radio "HONK HONK!"

"Cmon be caller number 9 with wackiest Make Stuff Up Tuesday bit"

no wonder 0.0 are getting dropped left and right

"Make Stuff Up Tuesday"? i mean seriously, most local abortion DJ's do that shit...guess its practice because 0.0 are clearly heading to a buffalo or idaho local morning zoo spot exclusively.

People just do not get the show! Why can't people understand that OnA doing hack bits every day is just a parody of morning shows that do hack bits every day? I'd stay and argue this point further, but then I might miss the phrase that pays.

It could be seen as slander. Just because the initial premise is that its a fake story, it did lead to a rumor that could effect the public perception of Tom Brady. its also retarded logic to say "if you listened, you'd know it was fake." its not my job to listen to a radio show! they started a rumor that circulated. I bet there will be a large number of people that won't hear that it was all fake, and will think something did happen with brady, and steroids.

seems like a little bit of irresponsible broadcasting to me..

"People just do not get the show!"

no shit...thats painfully obvious judging by there horrendous ratings and No new subs on XM...

anything to get attention...

No wonder SFN has a thread titled WGAS(who gives a shit)indirectly dedicated to 0.0

This story is stupid...

1. Eveyone knows O&A have no credibility
2. Who care what they say when only 200k people listen to the show anyways

"According to the Boston Herald, "a number" of fans called the newspaper's sports department to inquire about the story."

This once again proves my theory that O&A fans are fucking idiots

God how lame...no wonder they keep losing radio affiliates.

Quick question for Howard fans... when was the last time Howard did anything on his show that became the most searched topic on Google? Let me guess it was when some crusty porn star was on...

"And yesterday morning apparently the phrase “Tom Brady Suspended” was the most-searched topic on Google for a while."

So, all you douchebag haters who say no one listens to O&A. How the hell did this radio bit, and that's what it was, a RADIO BIT become the most searched topic on Google if like you say, no one is listening?

Hmm, sounds pretty fishy to me.

Of course, if you hit Google news and put "Howard Stern" in you get the top results for "Howard Stern".

HOWARD K. STERN!!!!

Oh, and a pop up ad for dentures.....

LINGER LONGER!!!!!

mojo, I hope you're joking otherwise you're one of the biggest douches I've ever heard of. It's not your job to get a joke? Go suck Al Sharpton's cock.

to ArtietheHutt:

Howard Stern is the most searched talk radio host on google
http://www.orbitcast.com/archives/howard-stern-still-most-popular-search-oa-quickly-on-the-rise.html

the biggest douches are 0.0 who claimed for years that if they were on in the mornings, they'd set the world on fire..not happening..

If you're gonna make up a fake story as a bit, make something thats obvoiusly fake..and maybe funny? The Onion does it all the time! "Tom Brady suspended for steroids" could be a true headline! why would anyone who heard it circulated as a rumor, not think it was true.

O & A?? What kind of person would listen to O & A? When I think of radio, I want to hear all politics, American TV Bashing, religious issues, too cool for the room music bantor, hilarous, edge of my seat, informative IFC interviews, and of course any show that thinks that all blockbuster movies suck. But where would I ever find a show like that?

BBC rocks

ArtieLange:
"Howard Stern is the most searched talk radio host on google"

If you look at the charts Howard Stern has been going down since he went to satellite and that HUGE jump in searches in late 2006 is Howard K. Stern, Not Howard Stern the Radio Host

mojo, that's why it's funny, because a dummy like you falls for it. The joke is on you and the other tools who believed it. The people that get it are laughing at the people like you who don't. Make something up that's obviously false? You don't understand humor at all do you? "Tom Brady Captured By Space Aliens!!!!!!!!" Is that funny and fake enough.

Thats funny now?

I think the biggest reason that people didn't think it was a gag is because it's not funny. The regular listeners know that the show isn't funny, so they were aware that it was a gag.

>> No wonder SFN has a thread titled WGAS(who gives a shit)indirectly dedicated to 0.0 >>

Makes sense, because the first thing I do when I don't care about something is post about it on a message board.

I submit that the first word in that anagram should be "We". :)

To be totally honest, I believed it for about five minutes...The only reason I believed it for that long is (A) it'd make me happy to see Brady busted for something since I hate the Pats, and (B) when I flipped to ESPN 140, it was about that long before Sports Center came on...I figured, since there was no mention, it must be part of "Make Stuff Up Tuesday", and after that, I was just disappointed because it wasn't true. :) I don't know what it is...I've always been a Red Sox fan, but the Pats just rub me the wrong way. Granted, I'm a Raider/Cardinals/Seahawks fan, so that may have something to do with it.

Ho.o Ho.o, Robin,

My fans may not be very creative, intelligent, or imaginative, but they sure know how to parrot me.

Ho.o Ho.o

I fall somewhere right in the middle on this one. I sometimes think O&A go for the morning show hack bits idea a bit too much, but the reason for that is it's not even the FCC guidelines, it's the stupid CBS lawyers. As for "make stuff up Tuesday". I sat there and the first thought in my head was, oh, shit, not this again. Unlike others here I'm not a zombie for either show. I'll give you the Stern fans are loyal but it's almost to the point where they have pests who believe anything and everything Howard tells them. So in a way, both shows are equal. Maybe O&A know they're at the end and are just trying to get fired from CBS? Seems to me they can't do anything accept parodies of hack bits other morning shows do, and you can only go so far with that bit. Wether you think that's funny or not is up to you.

anthony has had another heart attack tuesday

cant wait for that bit

Well i think that made this worse was that their boston station is also the home of the Patriot's radio network. This station pretty much revolves around the Patriot's.

Really? Huh, I live in Boston and BCN certainly does not revolve around the pats. It's the #1 rock radio station in town and has been for a long time before their relationship with the pats. They happen to air the pats games on sunday. So for 3 -4 hours 16 days a year. That's hardly revolving around the pats. BCN is know as the big rock station in town, not for the pats.

And BTW, as someone who lives in Boston, I heard the rumor, went to espn.com, saw it was not reported and knew it was a joke. The idiots believing it w/o bothering to wonder why no one else was reporting this massive "story" then became very funny to watch/listen to.

"no shit...thats painfully obvious judging by there horrendous ratings and No new subs on XM..."

0.0 is also what you got on your English test.

WBCN- I live in the area and get 104.1. Its the lamest station there ever was. The music is just crap. Pop rock but kinda new wave and gay. Too much Green Day. You cant say the Pats arent a HUGE draw though.

Those two clowns will really do anything for attention, won't they? Hack radio at its finest.

They really need to reel themselves in, wouldn't want to get their fans worked up and start smashing their own property again.

Wait. The Brady thing. It's not true?

Frrrrrrunkis!
