Tony Bruno leaves Sporting News Radio

Tony BrunoTony Bruno, who was a mainstay on Sporting News Radio, has officially left the network.

His three-year contract expires in April 2008, but he'll remain on the payroll for the next two months.

"Unfortunately, our strategic objectives and Tony’s personal interests are not in alignment at this time, and we have each agreed to move in a new direction," said Clancy Woods, President of Sporting News Radio, in a statement. While Sporting News Radio is in search of a replacement, Bob Berger and Bob Stelton will host SNR’s morning program during Super Bowl week starting January 28th, and Arnie Spanier will host the program the week of February 4th.

Bruno was heard on XM Sports Nation (ch 144) on weekdays from 10am - 1pm ET, and on Sirius Sports Central (ch 123) on weekdays from 9am -1pm ET.

Thanks Rich!

Let's hope he signs with Dan patrick's outfit, or maybe does a thing where he can keep his time slot on XMSN. Bruno is the best West Coast sports talk guy out there. If you get KNBR in the Bay Area, his segments with Gary Radnich are hilarious.

So can we officially declare the end of Sporting News Radio after he leaves? Which is too bad since ESPN Radio is becoming borderline unlistenable since Dan Patrick left. Any idea what Bruno will do after he's gone? Maybe latch on with an exclusive deal with XM/Sirius.

SNR's strategic objective of no longer paying him any money, and his personal interests of continuing to get paid.

Alginment? What alignment? Alignment with mediocrity?

The Bob and Bob show should be renamed Dud and Dud and is not even remotely close to Tony Bruno. The morning has lost its spark, and I only hope he will reappear even if only on Gary Radnich.

SNR is dead and even the paddles can't revive them. Bruno made drive time and early time in the office fun.......Great takes on sports mixed with fun stuff. The next most listenable guy on SNR is Tim Brando and that is for about 30 minutes. The guy they had on from St. Louis....Monty was the most painful listening experience of my life to date (54 years) The rest of the clowns they parade out there is like the worst tryouts for American Idol, only this is not funny. I switched off SNR today......for good

Tony is going to be missed on SNR and on XM 144 where I listened to him. His show was a great blend of sports, life, comedy and semi-crude guy humor. I hope that he signs with XM though. It was a great line up, but it would be even better under one umbrella and in good time slots. A combination show of all three personailites would be great also, even for an hour a week, but I know that would never happen.

I can't believe they are going a different direction...what direction is that...down?! Who are they going to find to replace him. His great sense of humor coupled with some non sports type subjects is what MADE THE SHOW!!!! I just don't get it...good luck SNR...you just lost me as a listener. I'm sure someone will pick Tony up soon and we will watch that show go a different direction...UP!!! Also, couldn't they have waited until AFTER the Super Bowl to do this. Now we have the "Bob's" on there...BORING!!!!! Good timing SNR!

Like "Doug in Indy", I'm in Indy too. The local station had it all. Bruno in the AM and Rome in the PM. I like them both despite being completely different is style. What they both have in common is they do a fair amount of non-sports subjects, they have good BS detectors, they're funny, and do good interviews.

Well, it looks like NPR in the AM now for sure till Bruno surfaces elsewhere.

I can't believe SNR would let this guy go. His is the only show on their little network that was a "can't miss". Tony - hope to hear you soon on Sirius or anywhere for that matter - thanks for the laughs! Go Cowboys!

Well,.....this sucks. Bruno was the only thing 1010AM had going it. Piss poor decision SNR. You've got to pay your talent if you want to keep them. I guarntee you aren't going to find anyone as funny or entertaining to replace Tony. I guess it's time to finally step up and buy Sirius so I can start listening to Howard Stern again.

"SNR is, who we thought they were!!" NO Tony Bruno? No continuation of faithful morning listeners...Period....good luck on your mediocre fill ins...

Mr. Clancy Woods... You lack "Good Knowledge"

As most of the comments before me said; This is the beginning of the end for SNR. Who's running this programming? What are you smoking? You've got the "BEST" combination of sports and entertainment in any time slot and you're letting him go because you're going in another direction. If I were you, unless you own SNR you better get your own resume polished up. This is a travesty to us your listeners!!!!!!! As far as I'm concerned you can take SNR and turn it into a cooking channel. I'll never listen again! Good luck SNR on your way down the toilet.

Mr. Woods...Clancy...You lack "Good Knowledge"...

Radio stations, like TV stations, make money from advertisers. Advertising costs are based on listener base. Am I right. No Tony Bruno and no ME... and my friends that listen as well... do you know how many there are? Do you? FOUR!!!!!

Way to go SNR. You jacked this one up too. Bruno made my mornings enjoyable. Now you took that enjoyment away because of your greed. The bottom line of a proffit and loss statement is not a be all end all. I will not support SNR any longer. Several of my local friends who listen on 102.1 the Game are pissed that Bruno is gone & replaced with the lifeless Bob & boring show. Now we get to hear Artie and his overblown voice yell at the mic. Just not the same without Bruno. Good luck to you Tony!

Nice work SNR. You successfully moved me to FM in the morning now.

Can't believe you let Tony Bruno get away from you! The morning ride is empty without his wit and humor. This isn't the first time XM has let me down. NASCAR and now Tony Bruno gone, there was FM beFOUR XM and there is still FM Like the others have said FM is looking better all the time.

Mr. Clancy Woods,
You should get down on your knees and beg Tony to come back. Tony and Mark were a great team and I'm pissed off that they are off the air. To partially quote a phrase from Blazing Saddles Mr. Woods you are the leading asshole at SNR if you were the person to make this decision.

deke

I am pissed, espn radio sux.

what the hell were you thinking???????

what the hell were you thinking???????

SNR.......Are you stupidi i mean seriously. You should have at least signed him to a "4" year deal. This is a "NATIONAL OUTRAGE". I guarantee Your little station on sirius will find yourselves saying "IT'S NOT REAL BUSY". Its pretty obvious about SNR guys...."THEY ARE WHO WE THOUGHT THEY WERE" I cant wait till he's back on the air somewhere so I can say "THANK YOU JESUUUUUS" Its been nice knowing you SNR and congratulations on cutting the Howard Stern of sports talk. p.s "GO PACK GO"

Tony Bruno had his own style and a big audience. What else could you ask for?
Wherever he appears we'll follow. Gary Radnich and Tony Bruno are the best in the West.

Your lost!

What a drag! No Tony and Mark to wake up to and even worse, no Tony and Gary Radnich 10 AM segment in the Bay Area. Come back, Tony. Come back, please !!

After his contract expires in April, Tony will be able to respond to the public.

Tony was great. I can't believe they're going with Peter Brown. Brown sucked 8 years ago! I won't listen to Brown. Since Tony is getting paid thru April, I guess we'll have to wait until after then to see where he winds up on the dial.

Have not listened since he left or whatever the term is.

:(

:(

Bruno has been called by some the best sports talk host..I never agreed with that...first off how can he best when he's off the air so often? Jim Rome is still the best and most inovative. JT The Brick and Dan Patrick are next (although FSN ruined JTs show with that annoying, muscle-bound gas bag Tom Loony)...Bruno isn't the best and never was but he is good in the mmorning drive timeslot and those clowns they have on in his place are not cutting it...period

Rumor has it Tony Bruno is coming back to Philly, there has been some big changes at wip and he may be a great fit with the cuz...South philly is back...Yo adriiene!

THE MEATHEAD WHO MADE THIS DECESION TO DROP TONY IS A COMPLETE IDIOT.
HE SHOULD BE FIRED. I ENJOYED MY TIME LISTENING TO TONY IN THE MORNING

SNR should rehire Bruno. His replacement is boring!!
